Hello all!
I am thinking of selling my 1997 TJ, but I am not sure what I should ask for it. It has 163000 miles on it (mostly RV towed miles), a 3" Teraflex lift, SYE, 4.56 gears front and rear, new Traclok in the rear and a lockrite up front (Dana 44 in the rear, Dana 30 in the front). It has a 6000lb Warn Winch, and the 33x12.50x15 MTR's have about 90% tread on them with no rock rash. What is a fair price to ask for this jeep? It has the steel doors and a new Bestop softtop. It also has a new AM/FM/CD/MP3 player.

I'll give you $50.00 and you can even keep the winch. :D
How's the body and mechanicals?

$50! WooHoo!!! I could get 1/2 tank of gas in my mini-van with that! :D
The body has a couple of scratches, but no dents. The mechanicals are great. There are no leaks and it doesn't use any oil at all. I replaced the exhaust manifold when I got it as well as the radiator....(it is now sporting an all metal one).

I'd shoot for 12-13k if it's a six banger. Auto? AC?
Spongebob

Yes, it has the 6 banger with A/C, tilt wheel, 5 speed tranny, K&N air filter, soft top, bikini top. The Kelly Blue Book has it listed for $6400 which I know is way too low even if it does have high miles on it. Is $12k - $13K a fair asking price?

I'm just guessing here, but used Jeeps hold their value and was the main reason I bought my current TJ. Blue Book doesn't mean squat. Check the auto trader online for pricing. Good luck! :)

This is what edmunds says:
http://www.edmunds.com/used/1997/jeep/wrangler/11333/options.html?tmvaction=vdpresult
It does not account for the winch, oversized tires or lift..The miles alone will scare most buyers off, the jeepers will understand!!! That I-6 will go 300k if its treated right!!

$13k for one with 63k on it...but not 163,000...its about a 9 year old vehicle.....
Id say put it a few thousand above what kbb says...and see what happens...your lift/tires/etc are only worthwhile to someone interested in that type of thing so it really holds no value to the price of the vehicle itself...they are however selling points that can get you a little more than a stock equipped Jeep. Just my .02 on buying and selling vehicles...

Last year I spent 3 months shopping for my 97 with 103k on it and paid $6800 but it was stock so I knew it had not been abused so I would try $10k and see what happens but I would say since it's hot as hell you are most likey to get around $7500 maybe $8k.

Thanks for all of the input!
I am still not sure if I am going to sell it or not......probably not at this time. It's a great Jeep.....I just don't use it as much because of the gas prices. For the time being, it's just sitting in the garage.

What's up Clay, are you thinking about getting out of Jeeping, or are you just looking to upgrade? Gas prices can't stay high forever.

It has 163000 miles on it (mostly RV towed miles)
Thanks,
Correct me if I'm wrong (and I'm often wrong according to my wife) but with a digital odo and the key not on towed mileage won't accumulate?

I'm not getting out of jeeping.....just looking for something new.
As for the odometer thing, I'm not sure......I just assumed that was the case, but I could be wrong. It sure doesn't act like a vehicle that has 163000 miles on it. I guess that it could be.

My Rubi doesn't add miles and I am pretty sure none of the TJ's do either.
Its amazing how long a vehicle can last when you take good care of it.

Ive been looking at TJ's lately and unless they are really clean with lots of extras the are going for pretty close to KBB. I've seen 98s and 99s with hardtops, auto, 6cyl and a/c going for around 9k and thats with under 100k. I'm in the market for one and would be interested but I don't think you'll get more then 8k for it. I hope you get what you want for it . Just my .02:D

Thanks for all of the info. Again, I'm not looking to get out of jeepin'.....I just was thinking about getting something different. One of these days I would like to build up a nice CJ7. Given the low amount of $$$ that my jeep would probably bring in, I will most likely hang onto it for now. Who knows, maybe my wife will let me make a total trail rig out of it! :D :D :D
Cheers,
