Having a tough time finding some of the small parts for my axle build. I'm trying to find replacment parts for a rear D60 from a 73-74 F250. One of the parts I am having the hardest time finding is the thin metal "gasket" that goes between the backside of the axle shaft flange and the hub face when you install the shaft. Another is the "lockwasher" that has the square teeth around the outer edge and a tooth on the inside that indexes it to the spindle, this is the part that keeps the spindle nut from backing off. In the Spicer X510-9 catalog the gasket is listed as item #39 on page 176 & 177 (Spicer part#39697), and the lockwasher is listed as item #37 on page 86 & 87, unsure of part # on that one though.

I have been to the dealership and they tell me that they have nothing available for anythng older than like 1980, even found an exploded view on their computer with the parts shown, but they can't get it. They told me to go to the junk yard:rolleyes:, and I told him someone has to have a replacement part, and he just shrugged with stupidity.

So what's the deal here? Do you guys have a special source for Spicer parts...maybe directly from Spicer? Anyone else know where I can find OEM Spicer parts???

BTW...Simon, also need to know if you guys have some shafts in stock. I need 2 D60 Spicer PN#35467-3, and also wonder if you guys carry the equivelant in a nice alloy version from say someone like Superior or Alloy USA?? Thanks

I own a 72 Ford F250. I had the Dana 60 rear axel rebuilt a few years ago by 4Wheeler Supply. To the point. If I wouldn't have had the metal washers between the axel and flange I would have used orange RTV to seal the axel shaft. Also if the lock washer was missing I would just make one. You have to remember these axels are over thirty years old. Hell my dana 60 axel still has 16 spline axel shafts. OLD! Then again if somebody was able to find you parts it would be Simon. Good luck.

Yeah, mine has got the 16 sp shafts too. Since I was going to have to buy a new carrier to gear up anyways, I'm just going to put 30 sp stuff back in, or even some 35 sp if I can find a place to bore the spindles for me at a decent price.

I thought about just using some RTV in place of the gasket, but wasn't sure if it also acted as some sort of thin spacer and if not used the whole axle explodes:eek: :D

I need the large lock washers for my D60 as well as the thin metal spacer.. We must have both bought our axles from the same guy.. :D he just takes the parts that keep us from finishing our builds... haha...

Well, I have the parts...they are just in bad shape. If I took some time, I could straighten out and unbend the lockwashers, but they are all chewed up from previous owners banging on them with what looks like a sharp chisel and the indexing tab on the inside is almost non-existent. And those thin gasket rings are so corroded (I think they are alum.?), that they are falling apart.

Oh yeah. Gonna stuff it with 5.38's, swap to discs, and run a spool (maybe an Eaton elec. or ARB if I change my mind on spending that much cash:rolleyes: ) I've got a matching HP HD44 for the front too.

I'll check on Monday,:)

Thanks!

Sweet.. I've got 4.56's in the rear and still have to load the front D44 with
D60 outters on it. I'm shopping spools right now for the rear and will run a lockrite up front. The front D44 won't be around for to long.. when I can afford it the front will be Rockcrusher D60. I'm running 40's on this MJ so the D44 will be abused... :D

Cool, how much will I owe ya for the gaskets?

So, if I went to the dealership and the guy said they can't get it, then either they don't cause it's so old, or that guys an *****hat:rolleyes: and I need to try another Ford source.

Do you guys do spindle boring or know of a good shop that won't rape me.

Blake Machine in Phoenix can do the boring. The Gaskets are about $2 ea.:)

Better yet, Hoppers Automotive bores the spindles as well. He is less expensi ve than Blakes and is a fellow wheeler. Their number is 480.967.8677. It is Way worth it to go 35 sline if your doing any rock crawling with big tires.

Well, three Ford dealerships....and no go on the lockwashers:mad:

Everyone I went to used the same system. First they tell you they don't carry and can't get parts for older than 1980. Then when I tell them to bring up the exploded diagram for an '80, and I proceed to point out the exact part I need...the noob behind the counter clicks on the magical part #, and wala....wheel covers! Dunno, so don't ask:confused: The parts manager comes over to help out at one of the places and tells me that if the computer is not letting you click on a specific part (ie...the lockwasher which redirects you to wheel covers), then it is unavailable and they can not get it even special order. Oh well, guess I will have to try straightening and reworking the one's I have.

Simon...have those gaskets come in?
