Wife has decided [with lots of pushing by me] that a smaller car is in order and the H2 needs to go.
She is looking at the Toyota FJ and the new 4 door unlimited Wrangler. Sadly, little info is to be had had about the '07 other than a pic of it in PUKE green. No fuel mileage est or stuff that might appeal to someone interesting in buying.
Anyone got any thoughts? This will be her car and not used for off road.

My brother has done a lot of looking into the FJ and is going to buy one soon. he's waiting for the price to come down from MSRP, some dealerships are asking 5000.00 over invoice. Avondale toyota has the best deal but you have to order your new FJ.

I would recommend the 2wd unlimited sahara if shes used to the h2. You should have said something today, I have the order guide with all the options!!!! The fuel economy should be 17 city 22 based on the size of the new jeep with 2wd, I'll have the specs soon enough. We will be testing in august to learn all about the new jeep!!

I think all of us as jeep owners should "boycott" any 2wd JK's...

Lexus RX - Hybrid. 31 mpg city. I was in one of these yesterday (although not the hybrid model) and it was pretty nice.

Yea and with a BASE price of right at $50K my guess it would cost more than the H2 she pedals around and BELIVE me it wasn't cheap!

I have never give a penny over MSRP for any car I have ever owned in my life. I have owned 4 cars that when I bought them the dealer markup was between $1k and $5k over MSRP.
'78 Corvette, Indy 500 Pace Car edition, received in Jan 79: $500 over invoice
'78 Corvette, Silver Anniversary edition, received in Oct 78: $500 over invoice
'01 Corvette Z06 edition, received in Jan '02: $1k over invoice
'03 Jeep Rubicon edition, received in Sep '02: $500 UNDER invoice
In each case, I contacted at least 25 or more dealers before I found a dealer that was willing to sell at a fair price.
In the case of the 78 Silver Anniversary Corvette, one dealer, Bill Heard, one of the largest dealers in the US, wanted $1k over MSRP AND $2k in cash upon order, paid to the sales manager, NO receipt.

You said smaller than the H2, not cheaper! :D
But seriously it's $46,750 base or $52,750 loaded. All you get for the extra 6k is DVD navigation, backup camera, a fancy stereo; none of are really necessary.
I'm just messin' around though, i hear ya, $50k is a boatload of cash for car.

Belive me that is on the list. However, it won't show untill Sept, maybe Oct. I might look around and try to find a dealer that wants to do business and not bad me and my rig and order one. But its to be the wife's rig and not likely to ever see any OR time. Certainly that is not the purpose behind this excersise. Mostly I am trying to get her into a rig that makes sense and her H2 is not it...Plus with a lifetime mpg at 11.6 on that H2 I think she is getting tired of dropping a c-note everytime she fills up and my reminding her that my rig gets better mpg.

Most dealers will charge over on the rubicon models, just like in 2002. The h2 on trade is going to hurt...for the obvious reasons..high gas prices.

No trade in, I rarely do a trade in and have no plans to do so this time either. Most likely it won't be a Rubi since its the wife's car. Most likely a Sahara and we will most likely order it...

Funny part about that is we have people complaining about having to pay MSRP for a FJ! I think our orders are about 2 months out.We had 1 customer buy one in Phoenix at $6k over cause they didnt want to wait:confused: .At least they came to us for all the accessories for it:D . Don

Going to look at the FJ tomorrow. I have talked to some dealers already:
1 dealer will sell for MSRP but you have to buy their dealer customer package [includes a wax job, tinted windows and a free oil change along with a air freshener of your choice, blah, blah blah] which is about $1k or so.
Two other dealers will sell for MSRP for a legit buyer with no trade in.
Couple of other dealers just said to come on down, blah, blah, blah.
Wife is thinking she wants the Jeep over the FJ. She has had several Grands and a 65th Anv Wrangler. We will most likely order the bugger in order to get what she wants and get it in a timely manner.
Having ordered a car or two I can tell you from exp it is not a easy process. Not because its difficult, because its not. But you have to find a dealer that is truly above board. The ordering process is full of scams by dealers. Most common is to order it, but sell you another one that has come in already.
In the case of Jeep Wrangers, when ordered the Jeep will arrive with YOUR name on the window sticker [I have my window sticker if anyone wants to see it]. Also a legit dealer will process your order when you give them a deposit. Dealers that are stand up will take you into the back room where the computer is and order it as you watch. You will get a confirmation from DC and a print out of the order that includes date, confirmation and what was ordered. This looks simliar to a window sticker. A order can be processed any day of the week and any time of the day.
If the wife decides to go for a Jeep it will be interesting to see how many Jeep dealers I go thru before I get a legit stand up dealer. For my '03 Rubicon, I went thru 23 dealers before I hit one that wanted to do business and wanted my money. The entire Rubicon transaction took place in less than 30 min. They took my MC, ordered and received a confirm from DC and gave me a print out.
Maybe we should start a pot on this with each person guessing how many dealers I approach and get turned down before I find a legit dealership.

That was pretty much the deal I got at Moore jeep in peoria. They were the first one to even know that a LJ rubicon was being built and ordered it for $500 over invoice. Got the printout then and there and a VIN a few weeks later when it scheduled to start. Unfortunately I never got that one due to the Christmas shutdowns and the factory running out of D44 axles so I ended up getting a dealer trade from airpark for the same price. The only difference was that it did not have my name on the sticker:(

Don -
was talking with my wife's cousin who has a LandCruiser. Said that Toyota is taking some FJs on the DeSoto trail with an offroad magazine. I think next weekend or something like that. Would have to check on the Toy forums. Would be interesting to watch in any case.

Don,
I agree with you, most dealerships I just can't stand going onto them, they just try to take you for every dime and then more at the last second and most of the time it is not the vehicle you truly wanted, but one that was close and they do what they can to convince you.
Two suggestions. One is Arizona Fleet Services. They can get you any vehicle you want, and they will get you what you want. They can get new or used vehicles. I have dealt with several guys over there, all helpful and don't waste my time on vehicles I don't want. We have bought out last 3 vehicles there and hope to never have to buy from a dealership again. IF you are interested you can call Mike Holiday or Frank Mendes over there at 602-861-2400 and tell them I sent you.
If you have to go to a dealership, I know you have not had great dealings with many, including the one I am going to suggest, but my dad bought through Jason at airpark, and Jason went out and found exactly the vehicle my dad wanted, he even had to get it transported from another state to get all the options he wanted on it. He did not try to get him to buy anything from the lot, he went after exactly what he wanted and got it.

Don,
After reading the link that Jason pointed to in his thread: http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=14055
It seems as though they are taking orders on the 2007 Cobras :D , to be delivered in July.
Does your wife want to buy an almost new 2003 Red Convertible 10th Anniversary Cobra? (19,500 miles on it and it has been serviced every 3K miles) The original Ford SVT birth certificate comes with it.

I never was able to sell a car by order because the buyers kept shopping arround and got something before their car even got here, sometimes they got something totally different!!! Dealerships know statistically that there's only a very slim chance to sell by order. Corvettes are another story:rolleyes: but for everything else they rather not spend money on something that will end up staying months on the lot...even a year.
For the ones that do order just be very persistent. A good sales consusltant always wants to find the closest match to your wants and needs and if he can't satisfy you then he'll find the vehicle at another dealership to dealertrade or order it.
That's the way I understood it when I worked. Maybe Jason can correct me he has been doing this for a long time.
