Has anyone noticed that on the MSN homepage, under maps and directions, you can view US maps and aerial photos? Very detailed photos. better than the coverage of google earth

copy, paste, and click on aerial

That's the old Terra Server project data, or the earlier version of it. Some of it is quite old. Some is good, most is on par with Google. Only those metropolitan areas that have high resoution color (not all are color yet) are going to be much better (if any) than Google. I didn't bother to look up the sample resolution but it is close.
Not sure where Google sourced their aerial photographs. MS sure has a long way to go to match Google's streaming and smooth rendering. Interesting in any case.
I have been using the free Terra Server (http://terraserver.microsoft.com/) data (as opposed to the for-pay (http://www.terraserver.com/) version) for quite a while. The MS Earth site looks like it uses a bit of both, maybe.
