Pyeatt Draw
Trail Rating: 4.0
Pyeatt Draw is located just north of Payson in the Tonto National Forest. You find yourself in cooler temperatures and surrounded by Pine Trees. There is plenty of camping near the trailhead. Check for fire restrictions first.
The trail is a wash that winds its way through the forest. Right from the start, there are plenty of ledges and rocks to traverse. There are many lines to choose from that very in difficulty. A huge plus on this trail is the nearby access road that takes you back to camp and the trailhead. The access road runs parallel to the wash and crosses it several times. The early portion of the trail can be run by stock rigs. However, use a spotter and your best judgment choosing a line. Your rear drive shaft is continually at risk.
The difficulty picks up when you come to an area I?ve heard called ?The Filter?. It?s a ledge that may turn some folks around. From this point on, a winch will be required to complete the section. You continue in the wash. There are multiple optional lines to choose from along the way. You eventually come to the premiere obstacle on the trail. It?s a large bowlike area that is sometimes filled with water. You have to climb a ledge on the left that is awkward and off camber. The first rig can winch off a tree. Tie a strap to the tree and once up, turn around and act as an anchor point for the next victim.
At the end of the winch ledge, you connect back up with the access road. Most take the access road back and call it a day. The wash continues and picks up in difficulty again! At this point, the rocks are larger and breakage is likely. Don?t attempt without spare parts.
The wash can be run in 4-6 hours with a capable group. Add more time for stock rigs. And make sure you have at least one rig with a winch if you want to complete the trail. This trail becomes much more difficult when wet.
Early portion of trail. There are multiple lines to choose from.

Most of the obstacles are optional and could easily be driven past.

I am referring to this area as "The Filter". Tough ledge.
5838
This is the easy line on "The Filter"
5835
There are no exits between "The Filter" and here.
This area can be climbed although most people take a winch. The line may not be intuitive. It is actually a lot easier now that the ledge has broken away and fallen downard. Hint: try the left side, and climb...

This fall can be crawled or, if you prefer, use a winch and take your time.
