Upper Woodpecker

Trail Rating: 3.5

Yet another great trail Southeast of Florence Junction. This trail is good for two reasons...one, because it's quick to get to since it's not too far off the main highway in comparison to many others...and two, it has numerous fun obstacles many of which are completely optional. Because of reason number two, it makes a great trail for a first timer rock crawler just trying to get there tires dirty, but also is a nice trail for the experienced to have fun. You'll see some ancient pictographs on the rock walls if you pay close attention...but please leave them as you find them.

This trail is known for the famed "Firehole" obstacle, which has really gotten wore down, filled in, and abused so much that it simply has lost some of its "flare" ;) . There are several nice challenges and many different lines available to those who want a different trail each time. This personally is one of my favorite trails due to it's ability to offer up a different experience each time and the fact that beginners can have fun and build some confidence in there rig without sacrificing it...but still feel as though they were challenged.

This is the first obstacle, which tends to get you thinking about if your roof is really that important (optional):

Firehole (definitely optional):

This one will take off the passenger side of your rig if your not carefull (optional):

Large groups can usually get through this trail in 3 to 5 hours depending on driver and spotter experience:

Have Fun!

Great day, it sure is nice now that the weather has broke. There's no way it even got over 110 out there today.

We had 6 TJ's, 1 YJ, 1 XJ, and a Toyota run Upper Woody.
4 TJ's and and the YJ did Upper Ajax.

I think everyone had a good time. Kemo sheared a motor mount bolt (or two) at the end of Upper Woody, the YJ lost a sidewall on Upper Ajax, other than that it was a pretty clean trun through these trails.
