Die Hard is located in the Table Mesa area.

Trail Rating: 5.0

Vehicles with 37" tires (and larger) will feel much more at home on this trail. Running it with 35" tires puts you at a distinct disadvantage. Rocker and corner guards, tough bumpers, no doors, and locked axles are a absolute must. Good driving and no roll overs essentially eliminates the possiblity of body damage (except for obstacle #1). While a winch is not mandatory, do not be suprised if you use it, especially to recover a vehicle that may have become wedged in the 1st obstacle. Roll overs are possible at various locations. Moving from one major obstacle to the next, the difficulty of the trail slowly increases. At the end, you are rewarded with an easy ride back to the staging/air up area.

The first obstacle has a bypass and is the only one that does. The consequences of misplacing a tire on this obstacle is quite high unless you do not value the sheetmetal on your vehicle. In that case, be sure your buddy has a winch on his vehicle else he will be strapping you out the hard way.

The 2nd obstacle (a waterfall) has two and possibly three lines through it....the most difficult (impossible?) being to the right of the large rock. This rock, when doing one of the left lines, will eat windshields and tops but does help reduce the amount you travel if you do roll over. Here is a picture of the easier line.

The 3rd obstacle is yet another waterfall. The entrance to it is achieved by climbing over a number of large rocks and finally executing a tight left turn. Most vehicles will have to do a couple of 3 point turns at the base of the waterfall on boulders that seem to roll around under the vehicle. A large hole to the right is too easy to drop your passenger rear tire into which prevents your climbing the waterfall. Here is the exit out of the waterfall.

The next notable obstacle is perhaps a cross between a waterfall and some exceptionally big rocks stacked on an uphill climb. Luckily, it looks worse than it actually is. Here is the entrance to it.

The end of the trail culminates in a 60~70 yard long boulder field. It is easy to get high centered or blow an axle on an undercut rock. When you get here, you are near the end of the mine field.....light is at the end of the tunnel....success is but another 15 yards down the trail.

Bill (Wildcat455), Jeff (TWSTDTJ), Rachel (Jeepeepin), and I ran Die Hard after the cleanup today. What an AWESOME trail! Thanks to Bill and Jeff for spotting, most of us came out pretty much unscathed.(Every one but me) I broke a stub shaft and unit bearing on an undercut boulder. Got it changed thanks to Richard for helping out. Luckily I had a spare shaft and unit bearing, and we had it replaced in about 30 minutes. The boulders on the trail are insane, as you can see in the pics. Here are just a few.......

No sense in two threads.

Me Lance and Mike ran Diehard today. Man what a trail! This was probably the most challenging trail I have been on to date. What an awesome day!

The only carnage was that I broke my rear sway bar which allowed the shock to extend too far and broke the bar pin and spit the rear spring out. I didn't need that sway bar anyway!
