Looking to plan a trip from Phoenix to Flag. Start with "Back way to Crown King", then "Senator Hwy to Prescott". That's as far as I've gone offroad.

I"m looking for any tips on trails that can then lead me from prescott to jerome / sedona / flag.

Only requirments - Dirt, and no harder than a 3.

I want pavment roads to be a last resort to hit a trailhead.

Anyone know how to get from Prescott to sedona offroad ?

With all the constuction around Cortes Lakes, I would rate I-17 around a 2.5+. Is that any help???

Arizona Atlas and Gazetteer would get you in the ballpark. How many days are you planning to take? :D I was looking at mine and looks like you should stay out of Prescott and go north toward dewey.

Part of the Great Western Trail goes over Mingus Mtn (north of Prescott). You could catch that over to Jerome, take Hwy 89A down to Clarkdale, then Sycamore Cyn Rd to Buckboard Road to Bill Gray to 525 to Boynton Pass, and <whalla!> you're in Sedona. :D

I have full 7.5 USGS maps. They still need a grain of salt with them.

Just in the early stages of planning :)

I'll check out those "roads" you mentioned cowgirl:) hopefully "road" is a subjective term :)

Who said she was speaking French?
Looks like perfectly acceptable western cowgirl speak to me ;)

Oregon's Back Coutnry Discovery Route does the same thing. It's a section of off-road trails (dirt roads)
which connect to like trails in California and Washington. Aside from minimal surface road sections
that connect sections of the trail, one can drive predominantly offroad from Mexico to Canada along
this route.

I second that idea, but last year when I did it, it was much higher than a 3.0. Unless the creek has some sand in it now it will take you quite a bit to navigate part of that trail.

I'd also suggest the route from Cave Creek, north up FR24, to Bloody Basin road, cross it and keep going north, now on FR16 ...

PM me for the rest of the directions - it is much more remote, scenic and you'll be able to travel dirt further...but it will take nearly twice as long.

Oui!...what Frenchy is full of! :D See, I still flunk today's french spelling test! Okay, I will go back to insulting people in spanish...Oooh, but one of the new girls in the office speaks Greek, and she is teaching us some real doozies! ;)

Back to topic: Etropic, if you want help with finding those routes, give me a call or stop by the office some time (and watch out if Carmella starts yelling in Greek!) And the 3.0+ mentioned is an optional route...;)
