AFAIK, we still don't have the AZVJC banner (never found it in time for the last freeway party).
Word was Wayne Cunningham had it but that's unconfirmed. If anyone knows how to contact
Wayne, of if anyone knows the banner's whereabouts, please post up :)

It was in the Chandler section of the AZ Republic today. Haven't heard anything more about it. Am I on the wrong thread or something??

No, just hasn't been much interest for some reason. I sent the application in and got a response that it had been received. Once I know specifics, I'll post them up here. So far it looks like you, Tom and myself. We need a better showing than 3 Jeeps and I know there are more folks on the East side. Let's go, folks. Post up!

Wed June 7 - open to public from 6-9pm. Presumeably we'll need to be down the ramp by 5pm.

I can make a new banner for AZVJC and bring it out wed if need be. I have a small vinyl company and can whip one up pretty quick. What would people like to see on it? This will be a Vinyl banner with single color vinyl overlayed and will be 6'x22" with grommets installed. Somebody will need to bring something to mount it to or we can put it between a couple of jeeps.
Maybe some kind of Jeep art in the upper left and right corners?

Anything else??

Anything is better than nothing, but if you can duplicate the original, that'd be great. Here's a pic of what it looks like...
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1581&stc=1
Whatever you can do is appreciated.
This one will be an evening party but we might still need some shade, so fi anyone has a cover that't be great.
I forgot who brought the generator/tv/vcr combo but if it can be secured again that'd be nice.
Aside from that, any offroad magazines, OHV, Tread Lightly, etc. literature is nice. Handouts are always
a crowd pleaser.

Can't make it as I'll be out of town once again, but you can use my canopy if you want. Looks like the same one that's in the pic. :D

Sorry about the double post, but back to the banner... That thing bounced between my house and Hunter's shop for a couple of years... 2 freeway openings ago, I couldn't make it, I was painting the house and only had the weekend to git 'r done, god i hate that saying ! Anyhow, Wayne came over and borrowed my generator, cords, gas tank and the banner.. he was driving his gray CJ w/black hardtop and his lovely wife was driving a Cherokee XJ. They came directly back afterward and dropped off the generator and stuff.. He said he would keep the banner cuz he knew he would make the next freeway opening... I didn't object because Wayne had kind of stepped up to take over these openings from a couple of us who had been very involved prior openings... Also, the generator had quit working at the opening so Wayne told me that a couple of the "electrical guru's" had re-wired it and got it working again... Still works great ! Thanks...I'm not going into this detail to slam Wayne, simply to see if any of the detail triggers any memories of anyone involved that might help us reclaim the banner... If I remember, I tried contacting Wayne at all the #'s we could find and his e-mail addy... all to no avail... I think I remember Wayne saying he worked in an admin function for the Transportation (school buss) department for Scottsdale Schools and I think he lived over in/near the old Lehi area of Mesa.. He was getting very active in the group and then kind of faded away. I also vagely remember that he and his wife were into raising purebred dogs but I don't remember the breed, maybe beagles ???... anyhow I hope this triggers someone/something... And beyond the banner, I hope all is still well with them..

I cannot copy the banner above due to the fact I dont have a printer for the vinyl. I only do vinyl overlay or Die Cut stickers on top of the vinyl banner blank. If somebody gets a couple of the round azvjc stickers we can put 1 one or two in the corner(s).
k7mto
05-31-2006, 10:11 PM
It will be nice to see you there, Bob. If anyone happens to visit 4 wheelers between now and then, ask Simon for the tapes. I'm sure he'll let us borrow them again. I have some cd's we can play also, but I don't know who supplied the TV/VCR/CD player or if we'll have it again this time.
As for the banner, if we happen to get ahold of Wayne and he has it, great. If not, anything you can aszaunmi can come up with I'm sure will be fine.
Worst case, we bring our Jeeps, park on each others tires, talk to folks and just have fun :)

Talk to Simon as he has the VJC stickers at his shop. He may give ya 2 for the corners (or maybe 1 for each corner) and you'll be good to go. Maybe even Joe might be able to mail you some for the banner if you ask him quick.

Hey Matt,
I still plan to be there, but I'll likely be Jeepless. Long story, but will have a good ending, regarding my t-case skid plate. However, I expect the Jeep to still be at Todd's on Weds.
Aside from real Jeeps, the RC jeeps are always fun to have on hand. With all the Nylint/NewBright owners out there, what if we made a mini-rock course to drive them over? If people were each to bring a couple rocks from around there house, we could get something going.
What web-site address is on the stickers/cards we sometimes hand out? If we want people to check the "club" out after the event, I guess we ought to have a valid site addy, huh?
As for handouts...is there one that descibes and details the process for getting a state land use permit? Would probably be one of the most useful.
Tom
k7mto
06-02-2006, 10:31 AM
Good ideas, Tom.
The cards I have say azvjc.org.
I can probably print out a pile of State Trust permit apps from the website.
RC Jeeps and rocks are a good idea if we get enough rocks. If not I'm sure folks can find other items to crawl on. I'll make sure my New Bright is charged up.

So far, I don't think anyone whose coming has a TV/VCR/CD and I don't know who brought it last time, so we may have a generator and videos, but nothing to play them on.
Hopefully aszaunmi will show up with a new banner.
The ADOT folks email says I should get more info in the next few days. I'll post details/times once it arrives.
We have received your application for the Loop 202 Santan Freeway Dedication. The cut-off date for applications is June 1, so you will be contacted by Evonne Aldana with more detailed information sometime during the period of June 3rd to June 5th.
Thank you so much for your participating in this great celebration!
On another note, I won't be able to bring my CJ afterall. Seems I broke more than the driveline u-joint last weekend...

I called the ADOT contact and she said they will be sending the details out today. As soon as it shows up I'll update this thread and the calendar entry.
Again, per above carnage, I won't be there with my CJ so I likely won't show up until they open it to the public so whomever gets there first can secure however much space they think is necessary for the number or Jeeps planning on showing up.

Thanks for stepping up and making a new banner!
To avoid getting stuck on the vendor side, you might want to wait until they open the public side at 6:00 and come in from Val Vista (just south of Pecos) and carry the banner over to the folks manning the booth. They can attach it between a couple of the Jeeps (someone might want to bring rope or bungees).

Parking for both vendors and the general public is on the freeway itself. Vendors park/display on the westbound lanes and the eastbound lanes are used for public parking.
We (AZVJC) are a vendor (although we aren't 'selling' anything). If you want to display your Jeep, you need to enter via the westbound ramp at Power Rd (per above) no later than 5:00. Once on the vendor/display side, you cannot leave until the event ends (at or after 9:00).
If you just want to show up as a spectator, you arrive no sooner than 6:00 and enter via the eastbound ramp at Val Vista and park on the eastbound lanes. Spectators can come and go as they please so no need to stay until 9:00.
Hope to see you there either way. Make sure you introduce yourself!

I'll be lucky if I can make it at all. I'll probably be able to show but it won't be until 7:30-8 probably...as a spectator of course.

I never heard anything from the BLM lady either, so there may not be any handout material unless I still have leftovers from the last one. I'll check in the garage. I'll be coming down as a spectator around 6:00 (I doubt anyone wants to see my bone stock ZJ), possibly with kids in tow.
Regardless of whether or not we have handouts, I think making a showing, even if it's only a couple of Jeeps, is worthwhile. People are still interested in the Jeeps and hearing what we do. We don't have to preach Tread Lightly so much this time and can just answer folks question about Jeeps and offroading in general.
btw, the banner looks great. I'll look for whomever shows up when I get there.

Post the pic I emailed on your phone to you. :p
I had a great time like usual and it was nice meeting the new and seeing some old faces. I have two boxes of hand outs for the next one or next event if anyone cares. :o

Not the turnout we usually get, but a showing nonetheless.

Nice pictures Matt
Just wanted to say thanks to Wayne for meeting up with me today and passing the banner and hand outs down to us for the event did you hand out a few or just chase them around in the wind... I was down the road a little with the AZ Dust Devils but came and visited for a bit, I had a good time after the dust storms past, and the fire works were pretty cool at the end.

Well lets just say as far as the hand-outs are concerned, the wind gave a whole new meaning to "flyers". We got a few people looking for some literature on our club specifically. Why do we not have any brochures? We could maybe get some made with pictures like the ones above, or even some trail pictures ... something. We could discuss how we get together and touch on things like the clean-ups that we do and why we do them.

Matt, thanks for the pictures, wish we would have had more Jeeps with us. We had a good time, met some new members of the club and hopefully encouraged a few more to join, or at least look at the site.

I wish I could have been there to add an XJ to the scenery, but I had to work yesterday. At 7pm, I'm just halfway through my work day. Maybe the next freeway opening I'll make it.

Sorry I missed it.. Didn't get home til about 4:30 and I knew there was no way to make it by 5.. My wife, and dog and I left the house about 6 and wound up parking at Val Vista and walking in... We went about 1-1/2 miles and still didn't see anything, except lots of people.. By this time I was carrying the dog.. At 8:15 we turned around and hiked out... Sorry I missed the show... The picture looks like the old banner... Did Wayne surface or is that the new one ?? Well, at least we got some excersize out of it,, Bob Jacques

Yeah, we got the new banner, but wasn't til after the pics from above. We had both of them up for display. I had a great time meeting new people. Can't wait to get out on the trails with y'all. And we can't have an event without some damage (my cooler was crushed on dismount of Jamie's Jeep..DOH!).

Yeah I parked at Val Vista too. I think I passed you walking out. You had a brownish dog (boxer?) and were talking to a family with a dog in a cart right? I walked all the way in to say hi to the guys at the booth and back. 6 miles or so. Damn, my blisters are killing me! BTW, membership is happening tonight or tomorrow morning.
