or at least extreme bodily harm......was driving on Elliot Road to work yesterday morning, just toolin' along enjoying a morning smoke, when I get a call on the cell....when I answer the phone, the smoke falls out of my mouth and into my lap......so there I am trying to drive, talk on the phone and get a burning cigarette out of my crotch.....I tell the caller to hold on, throw the phone down, and make a quick turn onto a side street....I stop, throw it into park and jump out.....I find the smoke and toss it (no harm to my crotch area)......I get back in the heep and put my foot on the brake pedal to leave, and the pedal goes all the way to the floor....investigation revealed that I had blown the drivers front brake line.....got the thing towed home and all is well....sooooooooo.....if I hadn't been smoking, I would have continued down the road towards a very busy intersection with no brakes.......
now to the jeep related portion of the story.....where can I get some new extended brake lines??????

Sounds more like the cell phone saved your life. If it had not rang, you would not have dropped your cigarette and, well..........you know the rest of the story. Glad you & everyone else on the road are safe..........for now.

"Caution; it has been determined that Cigarette Smoking can be beneficial to your life under certain convoluted situations. Please continue to smoke in the off-chance that you will be involved in one of these 1:10,000,000,000,000,000,013 situations"

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) in Atlanta says that the ?average smoker? dies 7 years earlier than the average non-smoker.
 that could be 7 years more of wheeling :D

Can I recommend sometime BEFORE you get emphysema, lung cancer, or some other ugly disease?
Just make up your mind to put the things down and never pick them up again... you control what you do; they don't.
If you need some moral support... the whole group is here to lend you a hand.
Come on... you can do it!
:D
(See... that will teach you to post something about cigarettes) :D

Part of my job is to help people quit smoking. Here is a tip that has worked wonders.
Which ever hand it is that you smoke with, switch to the other hand. Smoking is not just a habbit of the brain, mouth and lungs. It is a habbit of the muscles of the hand. Using the other had will feel odd and uncomfortable and dosn't have the same habbit.
You will find you are smoking less in a few days or sooner.
Works for other habbits too but this is a G rated site.

No it doesn't.... it's just one has less calouses than the other...

Here is what will happen if you continue to smoke. You will get short of breath and then sometime soon, during sex, you will have to stop to catch your breath. Your partner will lose interest and probably won't let you continue. Now how's that for a scary scenario?

As for the habit of the muscles part... how do you suggest I perform that? I am an equal-opportunity smoker when it comes to my hands. Left in my work truck so as to be able to knock the ashes off (only vehicle i smoke in, and i field strip, then put butt in ashtray)
Then I use right hand when on back patio.
When standing around with a beer, it depends on which hand is colder from holding the beer as to which i switch to.
I went 4 days in the hospital recently, on morphine and all sorts of other really really good drugs... all i thought about all day was getting a freakin smoke! And this was after a surgery where my possibilty of the procedure ultimately failing due to smoking is something like 5% or more.
I just like a good smoke. And I admit the addiction. i'd like to quit... but I have waaay too much stress now to consider it (surgery, crappy job, PITA wife, new baby). Excuses? yes. REAL help quitting? none.

My father always taught me that quiting is for loosers, and winners never quit. *chuckle*
Besides, what the surgeon general fails to state, is that millions of non-smokers die every day.
Ya, I should quit too though. But, I gotta agree, I smoke with both hands too. Left hand when driving, either hand whilst typing, and the beer thing....so true it's not even funny.
Speaking of smoking, brb. (Purple is gonna kick my butt one day if I don't quit anyway)

Like my Mother always said, "She will not die from smoking.", which is true, she died from lung cancer. It is truely an ugly addiction, but it will take its toll.

In a round about way my jeep did save my life and made me quit! Here is the short version.
I had a bad cold during 9/11. I felt like crap. The following morning I awoke but could not get a breath. I think I was on the verge of blacking out...most likely I was blacking out and then coming back to consciousness.
I was home with my kids still in bed (5:00 am) and my wife was out training for a marathon. (how is that for a paradoxing relationship) I knew I had to do something as I really felt like I was dying. The elephant sitting on my chest would not get off. I rationalized though that calling 911 was the wrong thing to do as there was no one else here to watch the kids when they took me away. So I had to wait for my wife to come back.
I guess I managed to pretty much fall down the stairs. (although I have no recollection of doing so) After which I had an idea. I knew I needed oxygen and I needed it now. Where could I get some? Being a Jeep guy and the necessity of being a tool whore to keep the jeep running, I just happened to have an oxy/acetylene torch. So I crawled out to the garage and grabbed the torch. Luckily I opened the right bottle and the right valve. I sucked on the torch for almost an hour until my wife came home. She then rushed me to the emergency room.
Even with the oxygenfrom tyhe torch my blood oxygen level was very low and they were surprised I was awake. I was diagnosed with chronic bronchitus, a direct result of smoking for 25 years and exacerbated from being sick. I was told I was very lucky to be alive and probably woudn't have been had I not had the oxygen.
That made me quit right then and there. It was so easy after that. Once you see clearly the damage that is done and you change your mind set, it is easy. I am thankful that I had this 2x4 up side the head to make me see clearly. It really changes you. I now run, bike and work out 5-6 days per week and am in good enough shape that I will see my kids finish elelmentry, HS and hopefully college and run the occasional triathlon. (In the fat guy class ;) ) The doctor comments on how he can't hear the whistles, pops and squeaks that used to come from my chest. They say after only 5 years you lungs are all clean and pink again.
That is how my jeep saved my life. :D
I believe life truly is better as a non smoker. I hope everyone that smokes manages to find that opportunity to quit. You will be so glad when you do. Sooner is better than later.

Craig that is a great story & I am glad it worked for you.
But not all people quit even after major problems I know my mother spent years on oxygen had to sleep with a c-pap (sp) my dad had to re finance the house when she came up on the transplant list & recieved a lung transplant which cost around $250,000 in cash. Insurance would not pay because it was listed an an experimental surgery had 3 great years but still sneaked them then I lost her 9 years ago on mothers day.
My mom's quote was always I am just doing it to me no one else but I have never been the same since watching her die. In alot of ways I wished it would have been me instead but no such luck.
I guess what I am rambling towards is that if you smoke think of what it will do to your loved ones who have to watch you die & feel completley powerless about it.

I hate specifics LOL :D
Good for you, all of you that have managed to kick this nasty habit/addiction.
I watched my g-father die of lung cancer... Lucky Strikes as long as even my dad could remember. Even had a cig going as he took his last breath.
I just haven't found that motivation like you guys. And I'm weaker-willed, I guess.

Just keep looking for it and sooner or later ( hopefully sooner) your will find the motivation. I tried to quit many times prior without success. I am not some super decisive strong willed person that just gets it done. In fact I thought I was never going to be able to do it. I always held out some hope though that if others can do it, I should be able to as well.
I think some people tell themselves they can't do it enough times and they end up believing it. So they quit trying. Never do that. Your reason will come or you will create it. Keep looking for it. :)
