If you are still under warranty, take it in. They will most
likely replace it with a refurbed unit. That is what they did on
my ZJ. Refurbed unit appears to work the same as the original,
but it does eject the CD when you want it to. I think the problem
on mine was that the rubber? wiper thingys that the CD slides
through when you put it in were hardened from the heat.
Refurbed stereo was $290. Thanks General Electric extended
warranty!

happened cause I felt the thump and there seems to be a new color of
paint on my spare tire. No damage on my part which is good.

Linda,
I would love too but, the currently the way of doing this would remove my
stock air box thus making my K&N use less thus removing my snorkel hook up.
I believe the mod itself (on board air) would only be $300 but the mods to
get to the on board air mod would probably cost $200.
Now, if somebody would come up with a way to mount the on board air
compressor to the driver's side of the vehicle, where the 2000 TJ's have the
AC compressor mounted, I'd be all over it. I have had email conversation
with Brad at OnBoardAir and he doesn't think it's doable, although it would
not be unlike him "to be playing poker" (if you know what I mean). That poor
guy has been burnt by so many people stealing his ideas, it's not funny and
I wouldn't blame him for not sharing ideas with me.
Thanks for the input.

I am assuming no as I got an up close and personal day today finally w/ my
donor truck. Sadly I have like 2.xx gears in both ends :( I am thinkingI
cant do a z d/l because of how it ties in on the passenger side. you cant
have to steering rods tied to one mount point. Thanks for the ideas.

Several of us are thinking of heading up to Flag on 6/30-7/1 or so for a
little camping and wheeling.
Anyone from the Flag chapter care to point out (or lead) a run or two??
Anywhere in the area would be great, but if there's a trail or two on the
west side, that'd be great.
The Jeeps we have are well modified and can do 4+ trails. Not sure if there
are many in this category up there or not...but it really doesn't
matter...just looking for some cool scenery in some cool temps.
TIA!

So here I am... plotting how to get Chris close enough to the edge of my

the edge of the pool, gets down on his hands and knees and sticks his rump

Yes Virginia; there IS a Santa Claus...

Hello Gang,
Recently I up-graded my 87 XJ's old closed system to the better 92 and up cooling system. It was fairly easy and cost allot less than I thought it would. My question to you all is:
Does anyone know of a good place to get gauges for my XJ? It doesn't have to be OEM, heck for that matter it can be mounted below on the dash somewhere. Also, would it be better to go with electrical or mechanical gauges?? And last of all, those of you that have or have changed systems as I did, are your temperatures running any lower or staying where it did before the change?? Sorry for being so winded......... Thanks,

Mine came with a radio/cassette combo and it had somewhat the same problem - tapes wouldn't eject. I took it back to Earnhardts with a stuck tape and they exchanged it without question. It was dust, by the way. I blew it out good before going to the dealer but that is what they said also. It happened again and they replaced it again. Still no questions. And my Jeep is clearly not stock. Earnhardt has declined to continue diagnostics when their work would take them into after market territory but before that they do ok by me. I must admit, though, I don't care much for their attitude in general. They are very secretive. You can't talk to a mechanic and they don't like to discuss warranty work. They do the work ok but don't want to discuss what they do. Strange. Anyway, I keep going back there because they keep fixing OEM stuff.

Anyone have problems with their cd players? Mine just started acting up.
When I go to eject the cd, it gets stuck. I have to hit eject a few
times, then I can just see the tip of it, and try to give it a little pry,
then it comes out. I am assuming it is from the dust, but anyone else
experiance it?
I wonder if I take it in to Earnhardts for warranty if they will deny it
cause I take it off road.;) Or is that just from Darners?
Don't flame me for having a cd player in my TJ, it was part of the
"package" that came with it. Not that there is anything wrong with it in
a Jeep, I would have put one in anyway, I like music when I am driving!
And I don't play it while wheeling.

I just got a '69 cj5. right now it is all stock except for the 2.5
inch ranho lift. I am a bit confused on how I should go about this
jeep. ofcourse it need the paint job, but considering it is in near
mint condition and all stock I was thinking about leaving it that
way. no lift kit, no serious modifications. but at the same time I
want that lift kit, (4") and the bigger tires for some serious
crawling. what would the other members do with this jeep? lift it or
just be happy with it the way it is? all are welcome to put their .5

This is obviously a personal decision you will have to make, but in my
opinion except for a few special cases Jeeps are made to be modified.
Camaro's, Mustangs and Corvettes are for keeping stock and restoring. You
will get more enjoyment out of your Jeep if you modify it. Plus it will
give somewhere to dispose of all that extra money you have.

My opinion is worth about 2 cents not 5 cents!!!! :) I'd never have
enough money for it!! I'd start with tires and lockers first. 2.5
inch lift so you should be able to fit some nice 31 or 32" mudders
under there nicely, and then lock it!! From there you could go a
hundred different ways. skid plates, lift, bumpers, lights, engine
you name it... -Rob

I have the new Aiwa MP3 cd player....the face covers the cd opening so no
dust gets into the mechanics. I'd highly recommend it if you need to
replace your current unit since it was fairly cheap and can play up to 1000
minutes of music....hehe. You could run three to four Jeep runs and never
listen to the same song twice without having to eject a cd. I have my whole
cd collection of about 300 discs on about 25 CD-R's...saves a lot of space
too.

I have a Sony and it does the same thing every once in a while, but
not very bad because it is the kind where you flip the face down to
insert the CD. It only gets dirty at all because I don't own a top
and my doors don't fit so it's always open to the dust here. They
will probably charge you an arm and leg to clean it. My suggestion
would be to get one that has flip-down face, so when it's closed very
little dust if any can get in compared to a standard CD player. And
buy the extra warranty, you can take it as many times as you want to
get it cleaned for free.

Thanks General Electric extended
warranty!

Linda,
I would love too but, the currently the way of doing this would remove my
stock air box thus making my K&N use less thus removing my snorkel hook up.
Thanks for the input.

cant do a z d/l because of how it ties in on the passenger side. you cant

Anyone from the Flag chapter care to point out (or lead) a run or two??
Anywhere in the area would be great, but if there's a trail or two on the

The Jeeps we have are well modified and can do 4+ trails. Not sure if there

Hello All,
Felix Santi lead a trail run Tuesday, June 19, 2001 across Mogollon Rim Area
Like most rim camping, excellent weather until the storm rolled through on Wed and an over eager camp host...but knocking off 15 degree on the temp side was worth it.

right now. Its fun but my g/f doesnt like it. Wheel hop and spring wrap
really show their ugly faces in weather like this... Hope everyone drives
safe!

Subject: UP-Grade!
Hello Gang,
Recently I up-graded my 87 XJ's old closed system to the better 92 and up cooling system.
Thanks,
Casper

Thornbirds were my worst mistake! I drive across the valley to work,
so my $600 Thornbirds lasted me about 8 or 9 months!! I'm happy with
my spacer lift, hockey pucks stacked 2 high for bump stops, 32" BFG

I am a bit confused on how I should go about this
jeep. ofcourse it need the paint job, but considering it is in near
mint condition and all stock I was thinking about leaving it that
way. no lift kit, no serious modifications. but at the same time I
want that lift kit, (4") and the bigger tires for some serious
crawling. what would the other members do with this jeep? lift it or
just be happy with it the way it is? all are welcome to put their .5
cents in. I appreciate all the help I can get to help me decide what
to do with this classic!
p.s.
anyone here have a good source for installing power steering/brakes?
