Glad to hear you got it done! It seems more of a PITA than it really is.
Those pins and springs were fun doing it twice, since I broke one, and had
to put the thrust washers in. My ring gear is thick, so it had to come
out. Sounds like it is working though!

I've been thinking about this, with the membership of the AzVJC
growing, and the code relatively complete, there could litterally be
several "VJC" around the world. I'm sure Crystaltech (which gives us
our space for free) would appreciate the business -- of course that
means the other VJC's would have to come up with $20 a month to cover
the website costs (plus the domain name set-up costs).
I believe that there is going to be a Colorado VJC in the near future.
What does everyone else think? Should we encourage other VJC's to
pop up by providing the code if they'll use Crystaltech... Or ...
should we just let whatever clubs form where they may -- we certainly
can't prevent them from using "[Something] Virtual Jeep Club" since
we don't have it registered as a trademark or anything...
I'm sure that a lawyer could come up with a disclaimer for the code
stating that it must be used only by a non-profit organization for
the purpose of reaching 4-wheelers in a particular geographical
location, etc...

Subject: TJ Driveline ?
When replacing the U-joints in the rear of my TJ last night I noticed
the tail cone was cracking all around the bottom. What type of
internal damage can this be doing to my t-case? I'm not intimatley
familiar (should anyone REALLY be) with my t-case, so I don't know
the exact positions of the inner workings at the output shaft.
I do know that if I get off the power at any speed of 50mph, let the
jeep coast, I have a lot of noise coming from under the jeep, towards
the rear It sounds rocks being tossed around in a metal bucket, but
there isn't any vibrations at all. I have no vibrations or noise
under acceleration or cruising at one speed, ONLY when the jeep is
slowing down, in other words when there is no power being applied.
Changed the U-joints last night so everything is snug.
Could their also be an issue at the pinion?
I know I need an SYE/DS, but that is still about 2 months away.
Specs:
2000TJ
5spd
3in Tera lift
4cyl
1"MM
NO SYE

Are you sure the marks on the tcase are not just mold marks. I seem to
remember a big debate about this many months ago on the Jeeps Unlimited BB.
Someone thought their tcase was cracking and they all finally agreed that
they were just mold marks. They looked like cracks, but someone that worked
for New Process chimed in that many look like this. Final result: mold
marks. Not from where 2 molds come together, but just marks in the mold
itself.
Maybe the "rolling rocks" sound is the catalytic converter. I have read
several places that when the cat goes out it sounds like marbles bouncing
around in a tin can.

I believe chris may be on the right track as far as the noise. Does it also
happen at idle. only quiter??? and try reving it a bit. you can also know
by just shaking it around when it isnt running. I am not sure but I think
that emissions components have an 80,000 mile warrenty. you may wanna talk
to the dealer. I thought my T-case was cracked also but it just turned out
to be were dirt and oil had gathered on a ridge in the casting. If it is a
crack I knwo my friend pulled his when he did the SYE shaft and It has to be
easy to replace.

If the tailhsg is cracked it will leak. (others commented on the
mold marks so take a peek on that) but if it's leaking/low
I'd bet the sound on deceleartion/coast is the slack in
the drive chain slapping it against the inside of the t-case.
Seen it a few times, not pretty. Basically the aluminum flakes
off inside and gets into the oil and gets pumped into all
the bearings. And maybe before a bearing cooks , the chain
will eat completely though the housing. Seen both....
But honestly I bet it's casting marks on the tailcone. I can
take some pics of my old one and I know exactly what everyone
is talking about.
How's the cat? If you have the typical 4.0 header crack that
can lead to the demise of the converter... BTDT

I've had the same rattle for quite along time now. If you give it gas, no
rattle. If you let up on gas it rattles. Have you noticed if you give it
just a small hint of gas it rattles even more?
I, among a few others think it's the throwout bearing in the clutch. There
is a possibility it's a tranny bearing, though I think I'll go for the
throwout first.

I'm sure that a lawyer could come up with a disclaimer for the code
stating that it must be used only by a non-profit organization for
the purpose of reaching 4-wheelers in a particular geographical
location, etc...

going with the 38x15.5s but have not had much luck finding info on them. I
am mostly concerned with there side wall strengths. They are a 6 ply steel

are a radial and are syped so they should grip the rocks better then the TSL

If you read the article could you give me the two cent version? Thanks

4cyl
1"MM
NO SYE
Stock driveshaft
