I'll be installing new rear LCAs on the ZJ later this week and couls use
a little help doing it. Aligning the axle is the hard part. The job
shouldn't take more than a couple of hours. And No. The ZJ is not
drivable.

I still haven't decided on what control arms to use. I am wavering
between RE (1/2 price) and TeraFlex. Any thoughts on the matter? I have
had really good luck with RE (parts and customer service). I don't know
much about TeraFlex.

So... if anyone is interested let me know. Email me directly.

Thanks,
Linda

Subject: FS- 98 Grand Cherokee

Hey all-

I have got a '98 Grand Cherokee for sale. 44,000 miles, 6 cyl, 2WD,
loaded, power everything. The jeep has minor front end damage and
would be an easy fix, mostly sheet metal work. The rest of the jeep
is in awesome shape and the interior is mint (with the exception of
the air bags).

As some of you know, I rebuild jeeps... I bought this one with the
intentions of it being a daily driver for my girlfriend, but we got a
lead on a '00 that I would much rather have. This would be an
excellent chance for someone to get into a $20K vehicle for under
half what it would cost new... even half what it would cost used.
Just look at my orange TJ... perfect example of how this one could
look. It would make a good wife-mobile or even a pre-runner set up.

I estimate the cost to fix to be about $1500+/- with aftermarket
sheet metal. The following is a link to a few pics. Call me, lets
talk. I need to sell this one to get the '00. It comes out in the
paper Tue. HURRY CALL ME NOW !!!

None of the 80's CJ's used V6's. In fact there is no such thing as an AMC V6
they only made in line 6's. Most of the V6's were GM engines.

Subject: Thanks for the hosting the run in White Tanks

Mike C.
Thanks for hosting the run in the White Tanks this weekend. Even though a few of us Jeeps broke off and went for more challenging ground, I very much enjoyed seeing everyone and the diversified field of four wheel vehicles.
This was my first time witnessing immobilizing trail carnage. Can't remember the guys name but his Grand Cherokee is really nice except for the driver's side axel that exploded. The lesson learned was when stuck DO NOT power your vehicle with the front wheels all the way turned. That plus it was the only wheel with traction caused the u-joint to take out the axel yokes.
Also was a great test for the MT/Rs. They can dig a hole fast! As everyone witnessed my three failed attempts at climbing the dirt hills. They really grip on the rocks. They performed outstanding on lower Tax Collector and on Monster Hill. Now if I can get one or both of the axels locked I will be ready for the harder halves of these trails I have been doing. Woodpecker, Raw Deal, Ajax, and Tax Collector.
Mike thanks again.

The description really doesn't do that any justice. The only thing
it does is invite people out to see it, decide if they just move ALOT
of rocks then they can make it, which makes it easier and less
challenging.

There aren't that many really hard trails left around here, I would
hate to see a good new one made easy.

Is it really necessary to install a coil spacer in the front of a TJ to
compensate for the weight of a winch? Anyone else here do this?

Chris,
I have put on many winches with new bumpers on Jeeps, includineg TJ's.
From my expeirnce, a new winch and your average upgraded, heavyduty type,
offroad bumper usllauy adds about 125 to 150 lbs. (Depending on winch and
bumper.) I have noticed average of 1/4" to 1/2" sag in the front, (The 1/2"
came from a set of Terra Flex springs that had a quite a few hard miles on
them) depending on what springs you have. From my point of you, it will be
up to you. Run the Jeep for a week and see if it needs it, then make up your
mind. You wont know until you get a chance to play with it. Good Luck

The fist waterfall is soooooo nasty that I think most sensible people
would decide against attempting it. And, for those that might consider
attempting it, make sure you climb up and over the waterfall first to
take a peak at the second obstacle. Pay particular attention to all
the scrape marks on the rocks and walls. ;-}

Does anyone have a tie rod assembly off of a wagoneer or cherokee (70's/mid
80's) lying around. I need the bar that goes from steering arm to steering
arm. I don't care about the condition of the ball joints. I just need the
bar to modify for my SOA setup on my YJ.

Or does anyone know of any junk yards in the east valley that has some 70's
thru mid 80's Cherokee and wagonneers in it.

Subject: [TR] Trip Report - South End White Tanks Area - Saturday, June 16, 2001

Hello All,

Mike Chatfield lead a trail run Saturday, June 16, 2001 across South End White Tanks Area

Sorry, my brain isn't good for remembering everyone's names but we had a bunch of Jeeps with a few XTerras from the AzXC show up for the run.

We started out at the sand hills, letting everyone air down, chew the fat, and then play on the hills for a bit. For several this was the first time they'd been off-road and were learning what the proper line was for their vehicle.

After the sand hill, we took off toward the east on a trail that starts in the big sand wash then splits off and heads between two foot hills. Some decided that they wanted something a little tougher and headed off on their own. On the one foothill, there was an optional hill climb with a pretty nasty looking section at the bottom (can you say "short shot"?) Everyone walked up the hill with ease discovering that sometimes the trail looks worse than it actually is.

After this, the trail went straight to the mountain, with an interesting hill climb which again looked alot tougher than it was. This was perhaps the toughest part of the trail, and although it had a "go around" no one took it; everyone opted to go up the hill. There were a few that had to stop and pick a slightly different line, as they were still learning what works for their vehicle.

Down the otherside of the big hill, the trail crossed a wash. (I want to see whats at the end of the wash one of these days.) One of the XTerras bounced sideways on the short hill climb coming out of the wash and almost ended up in a large wash out; the driver remain calm however backed down and charged up the hill again.

The trail continued on back to the sandhills, but we split off and went over to the end of Tax Collector to find the rest of the group. Tax Collector found that Dana 30 axles from a Red Cherokee were tastie and decided to eat one. After watching the group put the Cherokee back together and take the bypass out of Tax Collector in 3 Wheel Drive, we continued over to Monster Hill where a few brave souls ventured up to the top for the view. The rest of us turned around and headed back down.

A few decided to stick around and run Appetizer, while the rest left. Pete in his Cherokee, turned down a little early and got hung up pretty good on one of the obstacles, punching a hole in one of his shocks. After a bit of rock stacking, we got the Cherokee free. On the way out, Appetizer deciding that shocks were particularly good, took out the upper shock mount on one of the TJ's.

Thats pretty much it. Thanks to everyone that came out. I'm planning on one easy to moderate trail run per month for the next few months. This is a tenative itinerary:

Jul ?? - Tip Top Loop (long 10+ hours) at night.
Jul 20-23 - Camping trip to San Juan County, Colorado (Telluride, Silverton, Ouray)
