I'm going to be replacing my leaky valve cover gasket friday and the FSM says to torque the bolts to 115 in lbs. I can't seem to find anything other than a ft lb wrench. Any suggestions? The gasket was $41.00 so I'd sure hate to screw it up.

Thanks!

They are out there. I have one here but it is a cheapie. Bought it at Checker or Autozone, maybe Pep boys or Ace -- can't remember. My good Snap-On ($$$ ) torque wrenches were loaned out and never returned.

Sears has some nice stuff for the more casual mechanic and less pricey than Snap-On and the rest.

I have had good luck with Husky in general too but only know about Snap-On, Sears and junky Chinese torque wrenches. :D

I've got the Snap On version. I would be willing to loan it out, even after the above comments. Let me know.

In the future for a quick cheap tool you might try Pay and Save. That is my new favorite store lately. They are opening up all over the place. I don't know how much anyone else sells Hi-Lifts for anymore, but they have the 48 inch version at the one by my house on Elliot for 32.99.

That does seem like a decent price. Just curious, is it actually a Hi-Lift brand or rather a similar jack by another manufacturer?

I have an honest to goodness Hi-Lift now but have owned Jack-All (brand) and inexpensive no-name jobbies.

Torque wrench? I adjust torque by going between my 3/8" drive air ratchet, 1/4" air ratchet, or my bad arse 3/8" drive snap on impact! Good thing I spent thousands of $$ on tools when I was in the shop just to end up behind the desk to play with a puter.

Good question, I didn't pay much attention to the label. It was advertised on the box as a farm equipment jack or something. I did notice the Hi-Lift looked and was spelled (what I thought was pretty much) like the honest to goodness Hi-Lift that I picked up from 4x4groupbuy a couple years ago.

My junky one worked equally as poorly as my Hi-Lift or Jack-All so it wasn't an issue. :D Seriously, the cheapie just wore out a bit sooner (springs were poor quality I think) and I did break the rack but that was my doing and likely no fault of the manufacturer.

Yeah, I kind of thought the same thing and 32.99 was a good price. I should've bought the couple they had and sold them on Ebay or something. But I was busy with the new jumper cables and I think some zip ties last time I was there.
