Subject: Value of CJ7 top?

I recently acquired a CJ7 that came with a Fiberglass hard top and Metal
doors. Since I want a few other goodies to upgrade my new toy, I was
considering selling the whole setup. What would a fair price be for a
decent condition CJ7 top and doors with good glass and minor surface
rust? Thanks in advance :)

Hmmmm, maybe we should keep the Desert Rat e-mail address and use it when
we bash them with our horible customer service, and the highest prices in
town! Even their web prices are higher than if I walked into ORU, or 4
Wheelers....

I have noticed several used tops at 4 wheeler's supply in phx. They might
give you a good price.

I have the same hardtop and doors, why do you want to get rid of them?

Does anyone have a flat bed trailer I can tow my limping Jeep with? Seems
since I tweaked the drag link so bad, it stripped the tie rod end bolt and
I can not get a new one on it, so it just turns the bolt after a few
torques. I am able to drive it on the trailer and off, but I won't drive
it to OR-Fab from Chandler! I have a Tahoe that I can tow it with, so all
I would need is the trailer, unless you want to give me a hand. I can
pick it up anywhere in the valley or in Casa Grande (I think there are a
couple members in CG?) I will bring you a case of longnecks of your

Thanks so much!

They're only leaf springs. Get the sizes, and check manufacturers for the
equivalents at higher spring rates. http://www.gorancho.com/images/Specs.PDF
has sizes and stuff. Other makers have them, just not on the web.

You'll have to put some pics up if you do build it, I haven't seen many in
decent shape.

These weights on the pinion are most likely to help with vibration. Rather
than the vibration going through the body of the vehicle it is mostly
deadened by the weights. You will often see these same type of weights on
exhaust systems of newer cars.

breaking the set screw. I didn't have that problem and they've
been perfect for 1 1/2 years. I think the facory ends are a one

Subject: Re: Question on towing a YJ

I would only use it for quick trips occasionally. Manufacturer ratings imo are horribly misleading. I think they are meant for flat ground towing and only at slow speeds. :-) Will you be able to stop in a reasonable distance? Only if the brakes on the trailer are working very well. Can you pull a hill without disrupting the flow of traffic? No way.

I say this from experience. I towed my CJ7 up to Flagstaff with my V8 ZJ which was rated at 6500# on a rented u-haul trailer once and never wanted to do it again. The motor was fine but the short wheelbase ZJ was frightening with the small heavy trailer behind. I have a 5000# + boat that pulled a little better but after running off the road when an idiot pulled out in front of me and I couldn't stop, I decided to provide a little more safety for my family. I upgraded to a full size truck with a big motor and am very happy.

If you are only going to do it only once in a while you might be okay. Just take it slow and easy. Tranny coolers are also very helpful if you have an auto. Other wise you will probably smoke it if you try climbing the hill to Sunset point in the summer. (A friend of mine burned up his auto in a 4 Runner doing this very thing with a 4000# boat.)

Good Luck

Craig

Hi All,

I was thinking of putting my YJ on a trailer. I have a Toyota 4Runner for the pull vehical. It says in the owners manual that it can tow 5000 pounds. YJ about 3200 + trailer 1000 + cargo 500 = 4700 pounds. If my calculations are correct. Does anyone know if the 4Runner is capable of doing this or is it pushing it to far? Any comments would be welcome.

Thanks,

Mike,

You should be able to rent a trailer with surge brakes from Ryder for about $35 for a day.I did this when my track bar bracket tore lose on Woodpecker. Hopefully that new trailer won't be too far off.

turned out that he did 99% of the work. I was pretty new to that

I don't own one, but would love to, they are among my favorite off road
vehicles.

As for building one I don't think it would be too hard. Most of teh parts
should be pretty easy to come by except body parts, those will be more
difficult. I think as for engine, tranny and the rest of the drivetrain the
parts are pretty universal. It would be a fun project, maybe that will be
next after I finish the 66 international pickup.

If you don't want to buy it or just for me to have fun I would love to go

There is a Coco's that has closed down on the corner of Vista Del
Cerro and Rural in Tempe that has a good loading ramp in the back.
The kids are always 'boarding around and on it. I've driven up it
few times to look at wheel travel. It looks about 20-30 degrees, so
you could probably figure out an approx RTI score.
It goes high enough that about anything will lift a wheel before the
top, 'cept for maybe the buggies.

Funny you should say that....

I was just up at K-Mart this past weekend having some portraits taken.
I went ahead and scanned one in and posted it:

I think it's a great idea. I can't wait to see everyone else's mug!

Yeah, I saw that. I suppose that they are right, in a way, if no one was
allowed in there, there wouldn't have boon a campfire left burning to
start the forest fire. But let's take that logir a step forward then,
shall we? A lot of people die on the highways each year. Couldn't we
eliminate that by simply closing all of them? No one on the highway = no
accidents on the highway. Once we get done with that, why don't we take
a look at autos in general. I mean, lots of people die in auto accidents
around the city too. Why don't we just....

Anyway. Keep the roads open and nail the sorry SOB's who don't know how
to put out a campfire, says I.

I'm just bringing this back up as a reminder.

I've got my rock lights installed and I'm really looking forward to
the run!

Hope to see a good turnout.

usually rates a 3 - 4.
