I had a blast at the White Tanks yesterday. Three of us met up. Kevin(Ski4x4), Mike(MCM) and i decided to run Firebird,Ruler then Scorpion. We ended up running those 3 trails and a few washes and obstacles i had never done. I had never been on scorpion either. That was a great trail. Everything went perfect up until the very last bump on literally the last obstacle of the day. I sheared 3 of the 5 lugs of my rear driverside tire and it was enough to make the spacer and whole tire fall off. Even though that suked, i felt lucky it happened there and not doing 70mph on the 101 on the way home. From dragging me around on the rotor and the bent lug nut stubs we could'nt get the rotor of to put on my spare axle shafts. So we put the tire on the only good 2 lugs and hobble back to watson. Before we even made it too watson my rear drive shaft bolts had backed out and the driveshaft fell off. Mike was able to walk back and find 2 of the 4 bolts. We put it back on and with some inginuity and a little bood we got the rotor off, changed the axle shaft and then called it a day. Thanks for all the help guys. Here are some pics and a couple of vids.

Nick. I have seen so many breaks on ruler now that i can't remember who that was. My memory is shot/lost. :D

Darrel. It actually took me a minute to figure that out.

Barry. Are you going to name an obstacle after me? I know i have no money and i'm quite studley, but i didn't know you felt that way about me. Might wanna keep those feelings to yourself. :D

Jeff. Thanks. I'm just waiting on the new spacer and lug bolts.

Ditch the spacers, they are bad news.

Funny you say that. I just got to taking off the other rear spacer and it is deformed slightly. It has a flat spot around the outside edge. At least i don't remember it being like that. When we took the spacer out of the wheel that fell off, Mike noticed the lug holes being wallowed out like they were loose and just wallowed the holes out bigger until my lugs snapped off. Two lugs were left on the axle shaft that ripped clean out of the spacer. I had just rotated my tires and checked the torque on the spacers about two weeks before that. While i do not remeber that specific tire cause i had alot going on. I am pretty sure i checked it too. I always use a torque wrench on the spacers and tires. I know my rims took some good side shots that day. Maybe that damaged them. I'm not sure. Knowing myself i am still leaning toward human error, but i am not sure so the spacers go for now.

so the spacers go for now.
Good call. You shouldn't need them anyway. You run 33x12.50x15 MTR's on 15x8 Unique steel wheels with 4" backspace, right?

They aren't that unique. You see them all over the place...

They are actually 305/70s on 16x8 with 5" bs. Thats why i needed the spacers. I'll just let them rub for awhile. When i go to 35's it'll be 15x8 with 3.75"bs

Hey Travis,
I've been wanting to run Whitetanks again, but got bored with what I had run out there. I was wondering if you had directions or GPS coordinates for Ruler and Scorpion? I'd like to be able to make out to those trails soon.
Have fun wrenching on the heap and may it be a simple/cheap/quick fix.
Thanks,
Huck

I've read several places of spidertrax spacers being to blame for studs shearing off. It wouldn't surprise me that your spacers were working towads that point, when you forced their hand in the rocks. Much better to loose a tire with a group of folks around to help and no speed then to have it happen at highway speeds. I lost a 35"x12.5" BFG Mud TA while driving 55mph on Queen Creek, years ago. I'm glad I was in the J300 and was able to watch the tire roll accross the road while rolling to a stop on my backing plate. I lost an axle at the wheel bearing to cause that problem.....

Hey man, how are ya? I don't have a gps unit. Probably why i'm LOST. :D
Ruler is easy to find if you know where firebird is. Firebird runs straight into Ruler. That trail is awesome, its just a cluster of large rolling boulders. Everytime it rains decent the lower half is rearanged and it makes it like a new trail. That was the first time i was on Scorpion. It is a great trail too. I will be fixed in s few weeks and i could show where they are if you want. Do you have Google earth? I can mark them on that and send it to you.

Yeppers, I've got google earth. and I don't have a GPS of my own, either-just a compass sitting in the console. My buddy does have a unit and I'm thinking about getting one to mark my hunting/scouting activities and all of these trails we have out here.

We wanted to run a last bit of nastiness prior to Moab. So, this weekend will be our last trail runs until we leave. Next weekend, its all about checking nuts, bolts, and lubing crap for the drive to and from Moab, at the end of the month. Once I'm back from the trip, I'd be up for trying to find Scorpion with ya......

Enjoy the holiday weekend and I look forward to running with you again,
Huck

Cool man. Hopefully i'm fixed by the time you are set to go. I've got quite a few things to replace. Easy things but they all cost $. Have a good moab trip and let mw know when you are ready to go to the Tanks. Cya

I realized that once I got back from the trail I broke a center pin in one of my leaf springs. I need to get that fixed. I also need to fix my tail lights and lisence plate. Also there is a shake coming from the front end that I dont know what going on. I will need to bring it in for that. I also need to change my fuel filter and fix my ebrake.

wow that list is longer than I thought.
