I did that very same thing this weekend... twice!!!
I was parking somewhere on the "shady" side of town, so thought I'd
use that trick.
It took me quite a while before I could figure out what was going
on....
At least I didn't go so far as hopping out of the Jeep to check things
out :D
It makes me wonder how many potential theives would even know what the
extra "parking brake" is for.

Hey Dion, If your talking about the trim that your supertop slips
into on the top of the windshield I have an extra pair, you can have
them, I also think I have an extra trim piece for the tailgate. I
had a super top but I exchanged it for stock top. so their yours if
you want them.

I think I spotted your stickers here in Flagstaff. I saw some on the

want me to follow the guy and keep an eye on him? :)

How about that, someone just put two new AZ_VJC stickers on my TJ without
asking me. Hmmm...isn't your Jeep safe anymore from this kind of savage

Also look at Randy's Ring and pinion for more info:
www.ring-pinion.com/techlibrary.html
look at "Setup Specifications" for the specific amounts of backlash, etc.

BUT WITH A 4 CYL. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OF A DIFFERENCE IN RATIO TO
4.56 FROM 4.10 WITH 33'S. WHEN I SPOKE TO RANDY'S THEY LOOKED IT UP
ON THEIR CHARTS AND SAID FOR 33'S, GO WITH THE 4.88 TO GET CLOSER TO
THE STOCK CONFIGURATION.

THAT IS OBVIOUS, BUT IS THAT THE WEAK LINK? I DON'T THINK SO.

YOU'D BE SUPRISED. I'M ALSO ON A 4CYL GROUP AND THAT IS A COMMON USE
BY MANY.
Why risk having

I'M NOT AS CONCERNED WITH CRAWL RATIO AS I AM WITH DRIVABILITY AND
CRUISING. IF YOU DROVE MY TJ YOU'D GET SOO FRUSTRATED AT HAVING TO
KEEP YOUR FOOT TO THE FLOOR TO KEEP UP WITH TRAFFIC.

THAT IS WHAT I'VE BEEN DOING RESEARCH FOR.

I agree with Mike. I've been following a few different forums over the years and I have never heard of the Superior 4.88's failing. Thats not to say that it doesn't happen but if it happened often I would have heard about it. In theory the 4.56's should be stronger, but then theories are as debateable as opinions. The advantages of running 4.88's with the 4 cylinder far outweigh the disadvantages in my opinion. Besides, if a person is so worried that the difference between gears is that much weaker that they went with the 4.10's or 4.56's instead of what they really needed then I have to question why they didn't invest their money in a Dana 60 in the first place.
Scott Kruize
msa12171@aol.com wrote:
Sorry to dissappoint or contradict everyone, but 4.88 is the way to
go on a 4 cyl. Randy's Ring and Pinion and everyone else I talked
to, said that 4.88's are not that weak as everyone is fearing. Also,
the difference between 4.10 and 4.56 is minimal at best. Why even
regear to 4.56's if you already have 4.10's? I am running 4.10's and
33's in my 4 cyl. and I don't ever (rarely) use 5th gear anymore.
Talking to a few other 4cyl owners that have regeared, they all agree
4.88s is the only way to go. Randy's said that they ahve sold
hundreds of 4.88's for the D35c and not one returned that was broken
from stress. Doing the math for gear/tire ratio the 4.88 will get
your power back for 33's or bigger.

There are two vendors that I cn think of. The ones from Sun Performance seem to be the better buy since they have a quick release pin built in. Turbo City also makes aluminum replacements.

Eric (I presume);
During my first visit to your store to purchase the cage, I tried to clarify
the issue of a "club discount". My understanding from you and Rick was
"there is NO club discount given". I commented to Rick that I would inform
my club of 600+ members of this policy. Upon finalizing my transaction, I
did notice and was told I received the "online" price for the cage, which I
presume is the same price I would pay if ordered via the web. Does paying
the same price as what's already offered by Desert Rat considered a
discount?
Upon my return home, I informed my club, the Arizona Virtual Jeep Club
(AZVJC), of the information I received about there not being a club
discount. This was to clear up communications the club has recently had on
our Email list about club discounts. I sent you a copy of the Email as a
courtesy.
Later that day, I did return to purchase the book and was pleasantly
surprised to receive a discounted price on the book (about 9% discount).
Although my first visit started to get a little 'tense', I felt the customer
service I received on my second visit was much better.
Please correct me if my information is wrong. I've copied this Email to the
AZVJC to help insure they are getting "all the info about everything that
happened", as you requested.

Well I called Randy's Ring and Pinions and talked to a
nice guy named Mike. He told me that the strength
difference between the 2 gear set's, should not be an
issue, and that there is not a big difference in
strength until you get into the larger gears such as
the 5. and 6. . I was really surprised how much of
the group had a different opinion on these gears. I'm
still thinking about both of the gears but am leaning
more towards the 4.56's for all around drivability and
my long drive up to Phoenix. I really appreciated the
responses I got and thank everyone for sharing there
opinions and personnel experiences with me. It's one
of the things that make this club so great. The
wealth of knowledge, and experience that can be tapped
here is awesome. I'll let everyone know what I decide

What Mike said was pretty much what the people at
Randy's told me. I think the difference with what
people are hearing is in the engine size. I also
spoke to the people at West Coast R&P, and they told
me that for the 4cyl the strenght between the two
gears is not an issue. The diffrence beteen the 4.56
being a nominal increase I don't know. I wass told
that either set of gears would improve my jeeps
performence and what it boiled down to was how I use
my jeep and what I want .

Hey Dion, If your talking about the trim that your supertop slips
into on the top of the windshield I have an extra pair, you can have
them, I also think I have an extra trim piece for the tailgate. I
had a super top but I exchanged it for stock top. so their yours if
you want them.

Also look at Randy's Ring and pinion for more info:

look at "Setup Specifications" for the specific amounts of backlash, etc.

BUT WITH A 4 CYL. THERE IS NOT ENOUGH OF A DIFFERENCE IN RATIO TO

Eric (I presume);

Or we could make them ooze super strong glue, then if someone touches
them it glues their hands to your jeep. You then know who attempted
it, after you beat the hell out of them for touching my baby I'll cut
their hands off so that can be free, albeit with much more difficult
capabilty ff stealing anything ever again....

Bottom line: Desert Rat is NOT the company that offers the
lowest prices, best customer service, or, apparently, their name when
they email someone. (See below.)

Anyone have one 31x10.50 tire laying around taking up
space?
Ran Over something and the hole is too big to repair.
The other tires are worn enough where I don't want to
put a new one on, but they have enough tread where I
don't need to replace all 4 yet.
Thanks in advance.

Subject: Question on towing a YJ
Hi All,
I was thinking of putting my YJ on a trailer. I have a Toyota 4Runner for the pull vehical. It says in the owners manual that it can tow 5000 pounds. YJ about 3200 + trailer 1000 + cargo 500 = 4700 pounds. If my calculations are correct. Does anyone know if the 4Runner is capable of doing this or is it pushing it to far? Any comments would be welcome.

Subject: FS: More Tires for Sell
All;
I know there's been alot of this lately, but I'm tired of having stacks of
tires in my garage. I have 5 new 30"x9.50 Goodyear Wrangler GS/A tires
mounted on stock 15"x8" Jeep "Canyon" Wheels from a TJ (5 on 4.5). This set
has less than 2000 miles on them.
Also have 4 used Commanche Radial MS tires 31"x10.50 tires not mounted.
These are slightly used, but still have 3/4 of the tread left (evenly worn).
Any offers?

I have a question for you guys.... I have a bunch of wheelin pics
that are digital. I am looking for somewhere that will take the
digital pics and have actual prints made to send to a couple of my
friends. I have like 300 pics, so the prints can't be too expensive,
anyone know of a place that does this? on-line or in the valley...
either would work!! Thanks!!!!! -Rob

I'll let everyone know what I decide
to do when I make up my mind. Thanks again
Frank

What Mike said was pretty much what the people at
Randy's told me. I think the difference with what
people are hearing is in the engine size. I also
spoke to the people at West Coast R&P, and they told
me that for the 4cyl the strenght between the two
gears is not an issue. The diffrence beteen the 4.56
being a nominal increase I don't know. I wass told
that either set of gears would improve my jeeps
performence and what it boiled down to was how I use
my jeep and what I want .

here are some pix from the box canyon run on tuesday, the 12th. we decided to do lower woodpecker when we finished up the canyon, so the pix are from both. the only problem we ran into was a busted valve stem, but we fixed it up and were riding again in no time. thanks to everyone that joined us, it was a great time.
