We went W.E. Rock today and had a blast. Pictures to come. Meet up with Nick and Eric. Also ran into Rachel and Jamie, they were gearing up for the comp. We saved the day and took Rachel coffee, because everyone knows how she is in the morning:eek: and we wanted the competitors to have a chance:D

As far as the comp. it was my first one and it was a blast.

I'm seeing red X's

Was great seeing you again Roger and thanks for the java. It was a long, hot day but worth it. The competition was one of the best yet and the courses were just plain knarly. There was a heck of a turnout amongst competitors and the newer Legends class proved to be very exciting. What a great way to get into a competition rig affordably. There's your ticket; Nick! ;)

It was nice to see more out of state competitors like my friend Brent from Trail Tough out of Medford; Oregon. I was routing for his new buggie which admittidly looks odd, but works excellent. Brent struggled with the ORI struts (there's a surprise!) yet remained glued to the courses.

The tire wars were interesting and I'd have to give the nod to BFG for their amazing Krawlers. The Krawlers could hook up in the soft, loamy soil as well as the rocks. Maxxis made a great showing, but their tires often took on the rounded tread profile and kept you wondering if they were aired down. They spun quite badly in the dirt and gripped pretty well on the rocks. I'm not a big ProComp fan but Dustin Webster seems to make them work to his advantage.

I took lots of pics with Wind_Danzer's camera and hope she can get a few up soon. Her and Rachel were worn to a frazzle after yesterday's event with hot temps and lots of climbing while judging. All the judges did a great job with very little rest.

This comp was ran in a very orderly fashion which ket rigs competing constantly throughout the day with hardly any holdups. Several people did bring up that it was posted here that entry fee would be $10.00??? Parking was $5.00 and one day entrance was $15.00. Maybe the misunderstanding was it would be $10.00/day if you paid for two day admittance. Fees were right up there with UROC. Drinks and food were priced very fairly.
As many times as the announcer asked people to properly dispose of their trash; the path to each course was littered with bottles, cans and plates. People are so freaking lazy!!! Nick and I conducted our own little cleanup. ;)

Well I could babble on for days, but this event was a big success from what I witnessed on Saturday. I had a great time and the locals were great host!:)

yep! I think it's a great idea, I'll be making some phone calls tomorrow morning, I've been trying to debate where I'll be keeping all these buggys, you knows their not that much room at my shop:rolleyes:

x2 on the tires, I remember we sat and watched the whole day and compared tire performance, it really did seem like the guys rocking creepys were aired up to much, and the bfg krawlers were just making the obstacles that much easier

I was impressed overall of the managment of the event, if I remember correctly I only paid 7$ to get into uroc, here we paid too much for sure, I woulda been happy with free parking and a 15$ entrance fee

HOLY CRAP!!!!!

Wow.... yea, that about sums up the best weekend I have ever had. Burned to a crisp, blistered up feet, mucles I never knew I had and dehyrated but I'd do it all over again.

This was my first time being a judging assistant and I weas paired with Rachel. It took us a little bit to get used to it but once we got our system down, we worked well together. We were fair and above all consistant.

The competitors were all really, really nice people and a blast to watch. One team in particular saved me a few times from a spider or two crawling on me when they stopped by our event area. I really enjoied their personalities.

Needless to say, the first day was extremely long due to the heat and sun just beating down on the both of us. We had no shade and after a while even water didn't cut it. Eric and Nick were sweet and got us Gatoraide towards the end of the day and it helped to get us through. Today wasn't so bad cause the sun disappeared a bit and our event area got done by 12:30 or so int he afternoon. We also judged the shootout but the time inbetween allowed us to do our own thing. Rachel helped out some of the other areas while I did crowd control in a few spots and took some more pics. Eric took about 78 pics yesterday and while he's no expert, all of them turned out great. Now I just need to work with him on preventing "too much" from going on in the pic. LOL

Here are a few pics from yesterday (Eric's pics) :

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44bcp.jpg

He did try to right himself with tire spin, but he just couldn't do it so he had to take a hit on that course.

A vertical ledge obstical:

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44bw0.jpg

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44c2f.jpg

He tried to pull himself up the ledge but his rig had broken and the winch was the only thing pulling him and it wasn't getting any help from the tires.

For Eric:

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44e1s.jpg

You're pics turned out really well, I was quite shocked considering I thought a about 35% were going to be blurry.

Now back to the wheeling pics.....

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44eau.jpg

This gal Becca is a kick arse wheeler. She's very in control and can wheel circles around some of the boys there, at least on our event obstical. I believe she scoreda -18 out of a possible -20. Unfortunatly she got stuck in the shoot out. She started wheeling just 4 years ago and only in competition, she had no previous experiance.

The winning rigs:

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44h9h.jpg

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44hes.jpg

Lastly my two favorite pics I took.

Lucas rig after being uprighted had to burn off a lot fluid and caused a smoke cloud:

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44huo.jpg

The end of the day:

http://i1.tinypic.com/v44i1h.jpg

For those that missed out on checking it out, you missed one hell of a time. The shoot out had 3 or 4 rigs roll over and play dead with one group rolling their rig back over and completing the course with a limited amount of time left.

I look forward to the next one and if I can, I plan to go there to Cedar City and meet up with these awesome people again.

Eric thanks for coming up and chilling with us, I'm sure I speak for Rachel when I say your company was quite welcome and entertaining. Too bad you had to head back today, there was plenty of carnage to witness all the way around.

EDIT: I forgot to add my highlight of the last two days was while judging the first cone on our event I needed to stand really close to the boundry line of the other event next to us (I was later asked to move back to a different location since standing so close to the other event could lead to my harm). Anyway before that took place, as I was deep in concentration making sure the cone I was watching didn't get touched, I heard this "whoosh" noise and the next thing I know I was roostertailed with about 30 lbs or so fo dirt from the otehr event. I needed to spit out some of it nd brush it off my face but the best part was right after that, the announcer, who saw the whol ething exclaimed, "That's one way to piss off your judges!!" I just turned and gave him a dirt smile with a big thumbs up. LOL I needed to clarify with him today that I actually was not giving him the fingers though, which he thought. LOL

Sunday we started at 10am and went all the way up to 4:45. Final count I believe was 32 Rigs for the day. With four roll overs for the weekend. We had to stop for a water break, we took about 2 gallons worth out to our obstacle and went through it by 1pm. Got an awesome workout running up and down the hill myself, No blisters here though :) SPF40 did the trick on the skin protection.

That's exactly where the weight should be for this sport -- center and front up over the front axle.

I disagree. The last run on saturday he ran out of time trying to complete A4. So on his way back down his rig seemed top heavy rolling several times trying to exit the course. Of course it might have been driver or spotter error, or just the way its set up, he just seemed unstable to me.

Refer to the posts in this thread about the ORI struts. I'd be willing to gamble that these caused the majority of his problems. Leaking struts aren't exactly a picture of stability. If anyone remembers; another competitor suffered from the poor performance of the Ori struts at Globe last year.

Well, you sure don't see people putting water in their rear tires. The trend, for good reason, is low and lean with moderate forward weight bias. This is because it greatly enhances climbing capability. Top heavy as you observed is quite different than forward weight bias.

Who knows why he was flopping.

Ooops...I see Eric might. :D If the shocks were unloading at goofy times, then yeah, I imagine it would have been unstable.

Well, I've been riding on a twisted shaft for weeks now. No wonder I have a virus. :D But my new shaft is on the way, so hopefully things will get cleared up soon.

I did not realize that was Rachel or I would have said hello. I am still trying to put faces with names.

I guess I was more out of it that I suspected. I was talking with Rachel and Jamie extensively while judging the shootout and I thought Rachel had dark hair.
Or it could be the lack of sleep thanks to a skittish new mom during the day and taking care of my new daughter at night.

Oh, and about those shameless plugs... we have no shame... nope, uh uh, none, not a smidgen. And we like it tat way :D

Glenn,

She does have dark hair in quite a few pics but she's done something different.

Thing is I think you were out of it as I believe names had been tossed around at the bar we were all at on Friday and then while sitting there on Sunday.

:D :D :D LOL

I blame both the oxycontin and percocets!
The lack of sleep only makes me loopier than normal.

Thanks, again, for everyone's participation. Whether it be spectator, staff or judge.
It's because of you all that we (W.E. ROCK) have the reputation we do with folks!

Late Reply: This is Mark from ORI. Brent sent the struts back and I replaced two O-rings cut during assembly--my fault:( . I sent shorter stroke struts back to him that he seems to like. I'll take the brutal honesty as constructive criticism.
