Has anyone towed their rig (lifted bigger rubber etc) on a uhaul car transport before? Is it necessary to put smaller tires on the rig, and are there any gotchas that I should know about?
Appreciate any input on this.
thanks

I believe 31's are the max tire size for their straps, you can use ratchet straps, but if they see that you are doing that, they probably won't let you.

I dont have to load the rig there, and if I just did straps around the axles and from the Drings shouldnt that be just as good if not better than the tire straps?

I did that when I moved here from Oregon. A friend gave me 2 stock Sami wheels/tires to use for the trip (same 5x5.5 pattern as my CJ). I used the tire slings as well as some ratchet straps to secure it.

So you just strapped the front two tires, and then strapped the rig from tow points? That sounds like the best idea. thanks!

Just strap it down like you would any other trailor from the front and the back, then do doughnuts to make sure it'll stay on.:D

Yes. I swapped on the small Sami wheels/tires on the front and left 33's I ran at the time on the rear. Pulled onto the trailer, used the tire slings the trailer comes with over the from (small) tires, then used a few ratchet straps to strap it down from various points (rear axle, rocker sliders, etc.). It was a long trip so I snugged it down periodically along the way.
You probably have 5x4.5, but if the Sami wheels/tires will fit your rig, I still have them.

Thanks for the offer, I will shoot you a PM if I need to take you up on it!
I plan to just do the same thing then, and plenty of rachet straps on the bumpers axles and rockers.
Thanks again for the input!!

I have my stock Jeep wheels with approximately 30.5" tires on them that you could borrow.... If I remember correctly they're 265 75 15 or something like that...should work on the uhaul trailer.
