OK, my son has a '00 Grand Cherokee that has a couple of problems, hopefully someone here has been there done that.

Biggest problem now is it does not always want to start. The dealer said it's the shift position sensor in the trans.
They want 1500 plus to drop the trans and replace it.
Is there another way? Can you route around this sensor?
If it must be replaced, can I just drop the trans and unplug the old one, and insert the new?
I admit I don't don't like things more complicated than a sledge hammer or a handgrenade, but if I have to pull it I guess I will.

Problem number 2

The air mixer doors (darnchryslerproduct! the more you complicate the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the pipes!!!!)
are "stuck".
They want 1300 plus to replace the air mixer doors. Is this soomething I would want to tackle? Is there a good breakdown diagram of the dask that doesn't look like instructions for origami?

Thanks for the help! :)

Not sure how the shift sensor is on a GC, but on an xj, its bolted to the passenger side of the tranny.....sometimes they come lose and just need to be aligned......

ya same here I know someone that has to always start in neutral, in the xj's it's usually the neutral safety switch, not sure how much is the same with what your dealing with, but on xj's it's cheap and extremely easy to fix, it's attached to the outside of the tranny, so you don't need to drop it

Good luck on problem #2
Just had the wifes 01 grand in last week for the same issue it was a nigtmare it took 3 days
From what I beleive they have a rebuilt kit not to expensive around 130 bucks but thats not all of the problem I had to replace the control panel dual climate one side would blow heat the other side blew a/c @ the same time & all the doors/flappers would not open & close therefore all my cool a/c was useless
I ended up spending over a grand on that repair 750 was labor alone I am not sure if I was ripped off from what I gather it was a very tuff job I also had some other stuff done tranny service All new hose's serp. belt & AC serviced
It sucks spending that much $$$ & see no improvement but I sure will fell it @ 115 degrees this summer (I mean the wife will feel it)
I will ask my guy if he would like to tackel another one ????????

Problem #2 is your blend door, the normal price is around $1000 as everybody has mentioned. That dash isn't the easiest to pull...call or pm me and I'll see what I can do for you.

x4 on the neutral safety switch. I am pretty sure that the WJ has the AW4 in it, so it should be the same as the XJ. Here is a writeup on cleaning-replacing it. http://jeepin.com/features/nss/I had to do it on mine, and its pretty easy.

The air mixer doors are "stuck".
Does it only blow out of the heater vents on the floor? I'm pretty sure the doors are controlled by vacuum, and a leak in your vacuum system will cause it to only blow to the floor.

BTW, if they are asking $1500 to replace the NSS I would be nervous about taking it to them. I don't want to badmouth the shop and I could be wrong, but I would feel bad if you got ripped off.

OK, good ideas so far, but i have looked at the link, and I think the trans is different.

This one is marked 45FE, and does not have an external switch located on the linkage.

Any trans experts out there??
