That's OK, it's a "virtual" jeep, lol.

I know of several jeeps with scout axles on this- list, so it's all
good.

I had a run in with the Lou Grubb parts dept. today as I have been there
often and I used to check prices and they were always close to everyone else
like Leon Rosser Jeep. I guess I got lazy and was a little surprised when I
went to pick up my last order today. I had ordered a new drivers side tail
light I was surprised when they told me it was $85.00 plus tax. I bought it
anyway thinking they have always been fair before and I would check it when
I get home. I get home and check Leon Rosser and for the same part they want
$66.10. I then checked the Quadratec Catalog and the aftermarket part is
only $25.95. I then went back to make them aware I did not think the price
was fair. Once I explained my problem I was asked why I felt it was a
problem as all Jeep dealerships were independent and could set the price how
they felt. I tried to explain by asking how he would feel if a company he
bought stuff from all the time decided to overcharge you by 25%. I got my
money back but the manager decided to leave quickly when I asked for him. I
will not be doing much business with these people anymore and I suggest that
any in the club that do check the price for the part through other sources
before trying Lou Grubb. This way you will know right off the bat if they
are out of line. Jim F.

U.S. FOREST SERVICE CHIEF TO PROCEED WITH ROAD BAN
The Bush administration will move forward with a Clinton-era
order banning road building in federal forests even as the
plan is challenged by a slew of lawsuits, the U.S. Forest
Service said Thursday.

In a letter sent to forest managers, Forest Service Chief
Dale Bosworth said the agency would continue to restrict
the timber harvest and road construction in 60 million acres
of U.S. forest land until a decision was made by an appeals
court on the legality of a preliminary injunction blocking
the rule.

Is this for a TJ?

Head up to Pep Boys. I'm pretty sure I've seen tail lights similar to
the TJ style (regular truck tail light). They run about $10 - $15 or
so.

Lachlan,

The antenna length is mostly determined by what you can physically
handle....ie., height of garage door or car port overhang, parking garages,
tree branches, etc. The longer the antenna the better, but there will
usually be a compromise between what you want and what fits your Jeep.

Both Firestik and Wilson make quality CB antennas for <$20. I prefer the
hyper-flexible models, such as the Firefly made by Firestik. I have the
same type made by Wilson.....a 3' antenna that you can bend into a horseshoe
without breaking. Pretty forgiving on the trail.

As to a CB....most brands are on the same level with each other. One in the
$50 range will probably do a fine job once you have it hooked up to a
properly mounted antenna and the SWR has been checked and the antenna
adjusted. You can get some antenna mounting info/tips on my website (URL
below).

I'm sure someone will have input on their favorite model of CB radio.

I don't mean any disrespect by this; but you received exactly what you
should expect from a dealer; high prices.

I actually don't believe that Lou Grubb did anything wrong... I'm sure they
charged full list for the part, and you paid for it. They were nice enough
to return your money after you asked for it back, which makes me believe
that your rant is somewhat unfair to the dealership.

As you stated in your letter, shame on you for not checking on the price
before you ordered it... double shame on you for actually paying for it when
you found out what the price was... and kudos to Lou Grubb for returning
your money.

Again... I don't mean any disrespect to you; I just believe that your
argument against Lou Grubb is flawed and perhaps a bit unfair.

Joe West

Check the sig line on the web page link it is a YJ Bone Stock :) I
know I can get it cheaper else where but most things like this I want the
factory part my ***** is not that the aftermarket was cheaper I expected
that but that the factory part was priced 25% above what another dealer
sells if for. I would have no problem if they were within 5% of Rosser, 25%
is not right.

I hear that Doug Ballard is *giving* away his factory rear TJ Dana 44 for
FREE!!! All you have to do is go over and remove it from his Jeep and it's
yours. This weekend is a particularly good weekend for removing it since
Doug will be out of town.
I'd be happy to help you take it out if you'd like... <grin>

Not to break all your hearts but.... I have a 72 scout and *MOST* 71-73
scouts had a dana 30 front like most jeeps. *MOST* 74-80 scouts had 44's.
The real pain is trying to do a spring over w/ stock axles because scout
front ends have 0 degrees of caster. You have to cut the knuckles loose and
twist them and reweld (serious PITA). So chevy axles have caster and spring
pads are in the right place :) Plus with all you jeep guys snagging the
front 44's I cant find one for myself :P Thanks for the warm welcome from
everyone its appreciated.

Welcome aboard Scott! Don't worry about the no-Jeep thing, my Jeep
has a diverse mixture of Ford, AMC, Chevrolet, and (gasp) Honda
parts. More important than the vehicle you own is the attitude and
advice you supply to this list. Do you have any pics of your Scout
online? You should post 'em up, as an old Scout earns you points on
the "cool" scale.
