Hi Everyone,

I need to haul about 40 gallons of automotive fuel in some type of
container... and I'm wondering where I might be able to find a somewhat
inexpensive 40 gallon container to hold fuel. I could use 8 5 gallon Jerry
cans; but the thought of lugging those around does not appeal to me. Does
anyone have any suggestions on where I can purchase some kind of 40 gallon
(or close) fuel tank?

Kind Regards,

Joe West

Personally, I think a twin-stick shifter kit would keep the thieves
from getting very far, especially if you parked the Jeep in front 2wd
low range and left the hubs unlocked... That would also serve as an
alarm, hearing the engine of your jeep revving.

I like my Autolock. For Sticks you mount it on the Clutch when parked and
on autos you put it on the brake pedal.

Ok, I'm sloooowly trying to get all the little problems on my Jeep solved.
I'll take care of the Headlight problem this weekend hopefully. Now, My
steering....
It's on a 93 yj 2.5.
My steering is real loose. When parked you can move the steering wheel back
and forth a couple inches, the steering rod (or whatever you call it) also
moves all the way down to the gearbox but that's where it stops. The
steering components or tires don't move. I'm thinking my steering gearbox
is shot but I'm also wondering if it my crappy shackly lift (3") causing it.
And then there is the paint. Oh and the bad throwout bearing, ya, and the
crappy radio, and my tires turning to slicks. Oh ya, my speedo gear I need.
Also the exhaust manifold stud bolt broken in the engine block and the
cracked manifold and the boulder tweeked exhaust. I'm sure there's more. I
do love my Jeep!

Sounds like you need to adjust your steering box. The shackle lift is
probably your biggest problem. You need to keep new bushings in those, if
you want tight steering. Or loose the longer shackles.

For what it is worth, I was wheelin' with Steve (aka., Jeeper) when he did
in his front axle (see pics below).

As is the case with anything taken as a snapshot in time, you need to know
what led up to the event in order to get the complete story. First, the
passenger side front u-joint broke. Steve was taking a line through the
obstacle that none of us had ever seen done before.....I mean, to the point
that you might say it was a "That is simply crazy to try" kind of thing.
After the right side blew, he attempted to continue forward through the
obstacle, which at this time was only getting harder than what he had
already been through. Putting your tire up against an undercut rock ledge
when it doesn't even have any power applied to it (but the other end of the
axle does) is the recipe for....well, the pics speak for themselves, ;)
IMO, Steve found this obstacle to be THE best launching point for his new
build up...and he did a darn good job at getting it underway right there!
LOL!

Don't get me wrong....I am not critisizing Steve's driving.....just trying
to explain what lead up to his D30 axle breaking. In my opinion, he clearly
put it into a situation that had zero chances for success....and he did it
because he wanted to, not because he had to. On the other hand, I wheeled
with him for well over 6 hard months and watched him put his YJ through all
kinds of abuse (oops, did I say abuse word?) and the worst that happened was
a front u-joint failure (and I do not believe he was running the HD u-joints
on his).

That being said....the 35/30 combination is not really great for big tires.
I watched my Utah buddy take out his tracloc equipped D44 rear at Moab, this
past April. He ran it for 5 days with 38.5" Swampers on it and the tracloc
blew out and the ring gear broke in half (of course, he was any but gentle
with it as he was having a pair of D60s being built at that time). You'll
need to be kind to that D35 with 33" tires (Steve could give you
lessons!....LOL again)

With 33" tires, you will be OK, but NO MORE screaming runs up the hills!

Hi Chris.

I lost your msg asking me about what I saw in your future with the D30/35c
and these tires. Basically, I think a d30/35c is good for up to a 33X12.50,
if you are careful. I have seen up to a 35" run on a 35, and up to a 38"
(!!!) run sucessfully on a 30. But here's what you are more likely to see
with a big heavy 33X15.50 swamper on a 30/35c:

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1256560&a=10026409&p=33476284&f=0
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1256560&a=10026409&p=33476267&f=0
(all pics)
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1256560&a=10026409&f=0&sp=25

Those are from Steve, aka Jeeper. I don't think he is on this list anymore,
but he is still around, building a monster.

Anyway, you might get away with it, or not. Hard to say. Were it me, I
wouldn't go past a 33X12.50 on those axles, and for a heavy swamper, I
wouldn't go past a 32 (which is a 33 in BFG or GY anyhow). That's just
me personally, though.

Best of luck!

Daver.

Ok, I think everyone would agree that a 35 is simply NOT a
strong axle, but can be "enjoyed" if treated with a soft right foot.
Now, let's hear some thoughts on the same scenarios that have been
adressed, only factoring in a locker. Do you still think 33s will be
ok in a d35 if the same gentle go-pedal theory is applied???

Visit Bronco 1 CB Shop (I think It's on 7th Street just south of Greenway).

We bought a Garmin e-Map and an 8MB expansion chip from him. He programmed
all of the roads and recreation as well as the Topographical maps for the
better areas of Arizona. I've already used it to discover a mine on one of
our outings.

He'll also program in the City guides if you need them (tells you where the
restaurants are and even gives you directions/phone numbers). We opted not
to get this as we use it primarily on the trails.

We had the Magellan Map 330, but we took it back after buying the Garmin. It
just doesn't compare. We spent a total of about $300 on everything.

The guy at Bronco 1 is EXTREMELY helpful and knows his stuff. The Garmin
will take a day or two to build its satellite atlas (so it knows where the
satellites are in the sky anytime of day). After you run it for a few days,
it will work very well.

We haven't even used the PC cable yet because we already have it programmed.
However, I'll be downloading our tracks and waypoints soon.

Once again I am going to ask about a topic that has already been
discussed
in some detail on here in the recent past. Believe it or not my wife wants
to buy me a GPS for my birthday this week. I was hoping to get some
suggestions on brand, model, features, dealers, price etc for a handheld GPS
unit. Any help would be appreciated.

I don't have a radio in my rig yet, and I am ignorant about CB
radios. "Shepherd to Lost Sheep, Shepherd to Lost Sheep..."
and "Crazy Cooter comin' atcha!" are among some of the only things I
know about CBs, thanks to the Duke Boyz!!! LOL... anyway, what
exactly is SWR tuning, and do you have to do it, or is it helpful for
better reception? Also, does anyone have the little Cobra unit that
is entirely contained just in the handset? If so, id it a good unit?

No....just tune it once with the disco all hooked up and you are ready to
go. Before I used a disco, my antenna was properly adjusted. I installed
the disco and the SWR changed. I retuned and all is back to the way it was
before....and will stay that way unless I remove the disco and go back to a
permanent install again.

Speaking of SWR tuning, I was wondering something...

If I've got an antenna with a quick disconnect, should I be re-tuning
the CB everytime I put the antenna back on?

I'm sure it wouldn't hurt, but I was just wondering if I really needed
to.

I've got the Cobra 75wxst (or whatever it is - the handheld model).

I like it a lot. It seems to do the trick for me. I really only use my
CB on trail runs and it works just fine. Only problem (if you could
call it that) is that I don't have a good place to mount it... Only
because I don't feel like drilling holes into my dash, or having my
knee bang up against it where there is already a hole to mount a clip
to.

I think everyone can hear me OK when I use it... But, then again, I'm
pretty quiet most runs so I don't use it a whole lot. I've talked to
truckers with it (when two of them were trying to box in my "little
Jeepy" - they didn't realize I was listening in!) so I guess it works
pretty well.

The thing I like best about it is that it's easily removable. So, it's
not there for all the little punks to steal when I'm not using it.

If you're thinking of picking one up, try
http://www.valcoelectronics.com They had the best prices I could find
on the 'net.

I thought there were already at least one night run planned for this
Saturday (Terminator?)...but, if anyone wants to do something on the East
side of town (FJ area), I'd be willing to do/lead a night run on Jackhandle
Saturday night. It's a medium difficulty trail with a little of everything
to offer - you'd have to trust me on the views normally available during
daylight hours! It's rated at a 3.5, I think. It's doable with an open
Jeep, but I'd say lift is more important than lockers. There's one
ledge/squeeze that's got a sharp approach to it and the lift keeps your
bumper out of it...or keeps me from pilin a bunch o rocks!

Let me know if anyone's interested and we'll set a meeting time. I'd like
to get some of the trail before daylight fades, so maybe between 6 and 7pm
at the Texaco.

I have a friend that wants to test out his new rock lights on saturday
night. He is lifted 4" but opened. He would be able to make Raw Deal, so
anything with a 3.5 or so. Anyone planning on anything? He lives in
Chandler, but will travel to Table Mesa area.

Thanks, and let me know please!

Anybody out there have some stock Wrangler springs lying around from installing a lift? I am thinking about doing a springover lift on my CJ7 and would need them.

I apply that theory every single time i get in my jeep on road or off.
