That is an AZ_VJC sticker. The vehicle looks VERY familiar... of course,
green TJ's are pretty common nowadays.

Subject: Gas guage problem??

Hello Gang,
Maybe someone can help me out with my problem. I have an 87 XJ with the 4.0 engine, fuel injected, auto transmission. A few day ago I replace my temperature sensor, ( not the sending unit, and besides I have dumby lights = which will be replaced soon.), anyway, my temperature light was coming on and staying on, so I replaced the sensor and the light went out. Before and after the sensor was changed the temperature was 190, all fluids were up. Well a few days after the installation of my new temperature sensor, My gas gauge would read over half full even with only a couple of gallons of gas in the tank. Then today the gauge read the same until half way to town it pegged out way over the full reading mark. I only have about 5 gallons of gas in the tank. Did I do something wrong to mess up the computer due to the new sensor???? I am not as good a mechanic as I wish I was. Has anyone had this happen to them or something similar to what I have mentioned???? I would appreciate any help in trouble shooting this problem... Thanks in advance,

Casper

Can some one help me with replacing my fuel injectors. I have changed injectors before, but never had to purchase them myself before...... I am not sure if there is a certain brand that is better than the rest, or how well I can save money by buying a set at a great price. I have read postings in the past about some one buying injectors and found them for a great price. Any help would be greatly appreciated......

Now, are you glad you didn't sell that spare t-case yet??

Thrust washers, hmmm, so damn thin they can't make THAT much of a
difference! I learned my lesson too! Read it 2 or 3 times, then search
the old parts for pieces you need to transfer to the new one!

Subject: RE: GPS Suggestions

Visit Bronco 1 CB Shop (I think It's on 7th Street just south of Greenway).

We bought a Garmin e-Map and an 8MB expansion chip from him. He programmed all of the roads and recreation as well as the Topographical maps for the better areas of Arizona. I've already used it to discover a mine on one of our outings.

He'll also program in the City guides if you need them (tells you where the restaurants are and even gives you directions/phone numbers). We opted not to get this as we use it primarily on the trails.

We had the Magellan Map 330, but we took it back after buying the Garmin. It just doesn't compare. We spent a total of about $300 on everything.

The guy at Bronco 1 is EXTREMELY helpful and knows his stuff. The Garmin will take a day or two to build its satellite atlas (so it knows where the satellites are in the sky anytime of day). After you run it for a few days, it will work very well.

We haven't even used the PC cable yet because we already have it programmed. However, I'll be downloading our tracks and waypoints soon.

Hi Chris.

I lost your msg asking me about what I saw in your future with the D30/35c
and these tires. Basically, I think a d30/35c is good for up to a 33X12.50,
if you are careful. I have seen up to a 35" run on a 35, and up to a 38"
(!!!) run sucessfully on a 30. But here's what you are more likely to see
with a big heavy 33X15.50 swamper on a 30/35c:

http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1256560&a=10026409&p=33476284&f=0
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/ViewPhoto?u=1256560&a=10026409&p=33476267&f=0
(all pics)
http://albums.photopoint.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=1256560&a=10026409&f=0&sp=25

Those are from Steve, aka Jeeper. I don't think he is on this list anymore,
but he is still around, building a monster.

Anyway, you might get away with it, or not. Hard to say. Were it me, I
wouldn't go past a 33X12.50 on those axles, and for a heavy swamper, I
wouldn't go past a 32 (which is a 33 in BFG or GY anyhow). That's just
me personally, though.

Best of luck!

Daver.

Wow, that sure is a blast from the past. I haven't seen that thing in
awhile. Here's another article about it:
http://off-road.com/4x4web/features/1999/03/

The guy that built that has his jeeps write up here:
http://www.burnsvilleoffroad.com/shop.html
It is pretty sweet. 4.7V8/45RFE/AtlasII, 44RC/60RC, 37X13 boggers, etc.

IIRC, the football player that had that Viper TJ built ended up selling
it or something. I can't quite remember the whole story.

Previously stated by someone:
"...I wouldn't go past a 32 (which is a 33 in BFG or GY anyhow)..."

Regarding the corresponding tire size. Tara has 33x12.5-15 BFGs and
I have 33x12.5-15 Swamper TSLs. My tires sit at least an inch higher
that hers (with about equal wear). So I would think a 32" Swamper
(do they make one?) would actually be a 31" BFG....or did I
misunderstand your statement?
My friend just bought some used 31x10.5 Swampers from a someone in
this club, and I swear they look taller than my previous 31x12.5 BFG
tire...but I don't have them to physically compare, just my
observation.

Also aren't those pics from the guy who drove parallel up the crack
at the end of Raw Deal, instead of crossing it at an angle. He's got
cahunas, I'd never do that! Way to much stress on the U-joints, but I
never thought tire size would have anything to do with it.

My 2cents.

Um. My point was that a 33"BFG measures about 32" in my experience,
which is the same as a 32" swamper, which really DOES measure 32". Same
with your other one, a 31"BFG measures closer to 30", while a 31Swamper
measures (guess what) 31", making a 31"swamper about the same size as a
32BFG.

In my experience.

Yeah, well. I used those pictures as an illustration of violently broken
axles. And further, without regard to Steve, I believe fervently that
tire size, width, and weight DOES have a lot to do with stress on an
axle. A 33X15.50 tire, for instance, will break an axle much faster than
a smaller, narrower tire. Otherwise, why would anyone bother swapping up
to bigger axles when they get bigger tires?

Just to be clear, I was with Steve on that run. Those tires weren't
Swampers, they were BFG Muds and Steve put himself in a precarious
position (in a crack, wheels turned hard into a rock) to break both
front U-joints. No fault of the tires there.

However, Daver's larger point is certainly true. The SX is a HEAVY
tire and the 15.5 width is going to put extra stress on your front
stub axles and U-joints.

That said, you won't find a tougher more capable tire for running
rocks. The tradeoff is a fairly horrid street ride, flat spotting and
difficulty getting a balance.

I run the SX in 36x12.50 on my daily driver, but I don't have much of
a commute. I guess the real question is can you put up with poor
street performance for the best trail performance?

Crystal clear, I misread the statement as meaning that a 33in swamper
only measures 32in....and so forth.

Ditto on the ride quality vs function of the TSL. For anyone buying
TSLs they either should be buying them with off road function in
mind; not needing good on road driving characteristics. It's funny
to see people come into the shop and complain about how bad their
swampers drive on the street!

No club, no brake lock, just a piece of string tied to the steering wheel.
