This from a friend on the Willys Tech list who lives in California.

My introductory check list when I started with a new Dr. asked about physical health, mental health, abusive relationships, and if I was ever in a fearful relationship. In the middle of all these questions was "Do you have any
guns in the house?". Unfortunately there was no box for checking "None
of your @#%&*#@ business!".

I wrote back that I had asked these questions of patients as a Nurse but not the one about guns working in Arizona. HIPPA protects you medical information, but I don't know if this would be medical information.

Anyone else ever get this question from their Doctor or Nurse or in a medical question sheet?

It is an almost universal question on health surveys done at medical facilities across the country. I refuse to ask it and when I am a patient refuse to answer. Unless it has a direct bearing on treatment, it is nobody's beeswax.

I don't think the gun questions was on the question list when I worked in the ER about 4 years ago. I guess I need to check if it has changed. Maybe we still don't do this in Arizona.

My wife informs me the last time she had to fill one out it asked the question which she did not answer. I don't see where it is any of their business.

Any ever figure that it is for epidemiological purposes?

oh yeah...I'll bet thats it.

If that was the case, why would they not ask if you have any other types of products/objects that could be associated...??

There are plenty of products in your home that are not radioactive that would need to be identified. Dont think so John...

How bout...

the AMA is doing a study of how many firearms are in American homes to be published statistic on the dangers of owning a gun and the statistics are being gathered by your medical doctor. Owning a firearm has nothing to do with epidemiological research. It's just another way the ANTI-GUN AMA is gathering information.

Next...

Dang it Ming...now he's gonna go off....

BTW...so are the Meps on ALL mine..;) But they dont ask " Do you own a firearm with Trijicon, Meprolight, IMI, Ashley Express, or any other brand of tritium sealed night sights..??

LOL...

Aren't they supposedly using some non-radiactive replacement for Tritium these days? If so, I won't have it... radioctive is all you need....anything else is silly. Anyone have an old fashioned thermometers or popcorn ceilings they care to part with?

If everyone would carry guns with night sites perhaps we can start filling them with the nucleur waste from the power generation plants. I may have to campaign based on that. "A cleaner, non radio-active environment through guns". All responsible citizens should do their part and "store" some of this radioactive material on the tops of their guns so we don't have to store it in the ground. Just another way guns help maintain our way of life.

My wife works in the ER as a CNA and is currently in Nursing school. I'll ask her to see what her instructors and co-workers say about it being on the list of questions to ask.

You might want to mention that malpractice insurance will not cover advice given on safe storage/handling of firearms should they chose to give advice on the matter. I would love to sse the lawsuit on that one if someone were to get hurt as a result of the "medical advice"
