You probably already know... but if at all possible, do this when you
have as little fuel in your tank as possible. I planned it out just
right where I was on "fumes" when I installed mine.

A gallon of gas weighs roughly 8 lbs. Having a lighter tank will make
the job much easier.

Problem is I am planning to install the Kilby skid tomorrow (Chris
K. - I didn't bother you since it was such short notice). The catch
is I don't know how to depressurize the tank in my 98TJ (2.5l) and
the install instructions from Kilby say look in the FSM on how to do
it. Is this something easy to explain via email or should I wait for
the manual?

Having recently replaced my water pump, (97TJ 4.0l), I was astonished to
find that the 4 banger and six banger use the same water pump!!

I have never had that problem with my 99 tj. I have the 6 cyl and
have ran it with the air and it never reached much over 210 (half way
on the guage).

Mark,

Do you drive it very long? If I use the air on my 4.0 tj it is always
up at 210 and sometimes higher. At 210 the fan clutch kicks in so I
really notice the difference, power and sound.
I generally flush my system every year also. Maybe, I got a wimpy
radiator.

FWIW,

I run my Jeep ('99 TJ) from Tucson to Phoenix all the time. Most of
the time with the air at full blast and at speeds of 80 mph or more.

I've never once seen my thermostat go over the halfway mark (210*).

It probably would but I would wonder about the lubricating/anti-corrosion

I just installed PowerAid Helix throttle body spacer http://www.air-aid.com/p2.html. This spacer is for the 2.5l (they also have the 4.0l model). The install is a breeze and I did not have any whistle. I am not sure if I would deem the power difference significant but there was some improvement. Of course that could be because my throttle body was dirty and I cleaned it. My main interest is highway power so a little trip is in order for the test. Anyway I will post up changes in MPG and Macromotive carries the spacer. With our discount it's $63.40 sans shipping & tax.

On the fuel rail (at least up until 98?) there is a little scrader
valve, just like the style that is on a tire to fill it. Unscrew the
plastic cap and press in on the little valve stem. Have a containter
handy as this will squirt gas a good distance...

I went to install my Lock Right last night. After getting the cover off
and the 2 bearing retainers, I can't seem to get the damn carrier out! I
tried using a crow bar and *gently* try to nudge it out, put a bottle jack
against the tie rod and a rope inside the carrier to convinve it to come
out. All with NO luck...Any suggestions?? Someone got a come-along I can
barrow? It's an 01 TJ D30 front.

Rap a strap or a chain with a very high tensile strength around the
carrier (after pulling the bearing bolts, bearing caps and axles
out). Then put your hi-lift with the base against the housing, and
attach the strap to the lifting mechanism of the hi-lift. Then jack
it up, which will slowly at first pull on the carrier. Be ready
though, cause when it comes out, it comes ALL the way out right away
and so you need something soft for it to land on.
The same thing with a come along should also work.

MAKE SURE you put the bearing caps, and bolts back in in the exactly
same orientatino and position that they came out of. And when
putting the ring gear back on, put the bolts in a criss-cross pattern
in order to seat it properly on the carrier. And make sure it goes
back on in the exact same position too.

Sorry I couldn't make it over last night, got too wrapped up in my
own jeep doings.

Keith,

John Butler and I are doing our first rock runs with our RE long arm
kits. I've done a couple easy shakedown runs and will be running Upper and
Lower Woodpecker on Saturday night. It's nothing extreme, just a chance
to get used to the feel of the new suspension on the rocks. We are
meeting at the Texaco in Florence Jct at 4:30 pm.

Mike: Don't worry about being too "gentle," get a pry bar wedged
between the carrier and the housing and just force it out. Make sure
it has something soft to land on, as when it comes out, it comes OUT.

something under warranty is like pulling teeth. Hell, I can't even get

Never having bought a "new" jeep, I can't speak ho jeep dealers, but I
have bought a new dodge. Performance Dodge has replaced stuff under
warrantee for free while we were getting the oil changed that we didn't
even know was broke. In some cases, it wasn't even broke, they had just
received a bulletin that it _might_ break. And we DON'T know anyone
there.

Believe it...or NOT!

Just kidding. Believe it, it's true. Good dealers DO exist.

This club is for sharing information. unless you went to that dealer with
the exact problem I had and they told you something diferent I would suggest
that you NOT CALL ANYONE A LIAR! you can keep those opinions to your self,
or you write them back to me personally.

Do you think that I just sit here making up stories??? I moved here from
washington state about 3 years ago, I took it to Darner first and got very
lucky, they were close. I dodnt know anyone. much less someone at the
dealership, MAYBE YOU SHOULDN"T HAVE BOUGHT A CHEVY. ( jk ) :) I have
never heard anything bad on this site about them either. IF you doubt me
try them next time. Then at least you will be speaking with some experience.

Best trick I've used is to wedge a crowbaron the backside of
the carrier (back of ring gear) and between the inside of the
housing. Rotate the pinion so that the carrier jams the crowbar
in there. Rotate the pinion a little more and the carrier will
rotate up and pop out by about 1" so you can easily pop it out
by hand or with a gentle crowbar.
