I tried e-mailing you regarding the exhaust question, but I get a 552
quota error and the mail does not go through. Anyways, to answer
your question, I spent 100 bucks on the flowmaster and tubing, and
after the emissions fiasco I went through last year I had to buy a
new cat, so the high-flow cat was another 140. Not too bad, it
sounds alot meaner than a vacuum-leaking gas-guzzling straight 6.

I have spoken with my advisor @ Earnhardt's. He said they think the
breakage was do to the lift and will not warranty it if it is. He is
now waiting for the heavy line supervisor to look at it. If that
supervisor says it is the lift then I am SOL on a warranty repair. I
have the 4" TERAFLEX with 33" BFG's. It's only money, but I already
paid them when I bought the service contract. At least thats the way
I look at it. More to follow.

Not from "Jeep" but a couple dealers have offered that. It is the
cheap (read no control arm) lift that is only a couple hundered
dollars at RE but they charge about 2,000 then another 1500 or so for
the wheels and tires. They come with AE wheels and BFG All Terrains
(33") I saw them at Darner... I heard they are out in Glemdale too
west of Bill Luke.. I think it's called Glendale Automotive. Good

This might sound like a crazy idea, of which I am well-known for, but
is it possible to drive to Cabo in a Jeep? Besides customs and
insurance hassles, would I need a passport? And where could I find

and backroads instead of highway travel? I could even strap a board

Hi everyone,
Just a note to let everyone know that as of the 31st of May, Susan and I

addresses and phone numbers here are the new ones.
Address:
3063 S. Rogers st.
Mesa, AZ 85202
New Phone:
480-831-0113
Due to the fact that we are not really going to be there for the first
week, you can leave a message for us or we will both still have our cell
phones.
Susan: 602-684-7498
Allen: 480-600-2715
As for our e-mail, Susan's is still; susanjakob@h.... I can
still check my allenjakob@u... through my Yahoo account
(allenjakob@y...) so you can still send my e-mail to the same old
place.
Anyway, the ball is rolling and will hopefully hear from you all soon.
Let me know if you have any questions.

I don't know about driving down there, etc., but if you do, make real sure
that you check and see where it's legal to drive.. Back in the late
70's/early 80's when my parents lived done in Baja (about 30/35 miles south
of San Diego), and I had a '78 CJ5, I found out that it was (then at least),
illegal (Mexican law) to drive on the beach there..

I have the stock NP231 Tcase out of my 97 TJ for sale. It was behind a 5
speed manual. Will not fit auto trannys.
It had 30,000 miles on it when I pulled it out. The reason I pulled it was
because I had purchased another 231 from a club member and built that 231 up
with a Teralow, 2low, and SYE and that is what is in my TJ now. By doing the
swap, I had no potential for down time if something went wrong with the
buildup.
Again, this is the stock (no mods) tcase I have for sale. Not sure what its
worth so make me an offer if you need it.

Hey everyone, was wondering if anyone could maybe help me out here.
I'm not sure if this is a common issue with using the howell kit, but
when I come to a stop, the engine starts to idle really low, almost
to the point of stalling, but after about 5-6 seconds it idles back
up and is fine until I come to the next stop, then it idles down
really low again and then back up again. What I've checked already
is the fuel pumps, they are operating fine, as well as run a can of
injector cleaner through it. Also the throttle position sensor is
only about a month old. Thanks in Advance

I found a webpage that mentioned Sure Claw Wheel Anchors so I inquired
about them. Here's the response. Unfortunately no webpage for Mesa

"One of the problems when 'wheeling is keeping my Jeep stationary when
winching others. The Jeep wants to creep towards the stuck vehicle when
winching on any surface other than slickrock or pavement. Mesa
Industries has the solution. Their SureClaw wheel anchors ensure that
your rig will stay securely in place when winching on virtually any type

I don't have a solution, but I can tell you that you're not alone. I
briefly had a '98 TJ that did the same thing, and my current '99 TJ has done
it as well. Each time, I was at a drive-through in the summer, and each TJ
did it while it was almost brand new. I asked the dealership about it the
first time it happened on my '99, and he said something about giving the
Jeep some "break-in" time. I think my TJ would still shoot up into the red
if I gave it a chance. Last summer I caught it starting to inch up towards
the red while I was at a drive-through, but I turned off the A/C before it
got bad.
I just decided it was a Jeep thing, and now I watch it in the summer.

Saturday I was waiting in the drive thru line at In and out burger,
with my air running and as I moved my way through the line I noticed
my Water temp gauge climbed into the red, now it wasn't pegged but
yikes in the red? It's not even the middle of the summer yet and my
TJ running @ 245 degrees makes me a little nervous. (I immediately
shut off the air, rolled down the windows and turned the heat on full
blast to cool the motor off, which it did) I wouldn't imagine this is
normal for a TJ but maybe I am wrong. The only thing I can think of
is I bought this jeep brand new from a dealer in Indiana and perhaps
they put a thermostat more suited to the Midwest then the scorching
desert I live in. Should I just try a different thermostat or does
anyone else have any suggestions/advise?

I have driven to Cabo via Mex-1 4 or 5 times. My first trip was in '83 and
the road was not very good. The road has been improved dramatically since
then. You do not need a passport to travel teh Baja peninsula. Although Cabo
is ~700 due south of Phoenix as the crow flies, it is ~1000 miles of San
Diego as the crow drives. It is a long drive but well worth it. There are
several long dirt roads (i.e. cut through to San Felipe vice going over to
San Diego) that can be taken vice the single paved road. I highly recommend
the AAA map of Baja as it has all the roads, trails, ruts, etc. identified.
Gas is plentiful but parts are not...carry everything you might need.
I'll be Cabo June 16th for a week...own a timeshare there.

I tried e-mailing you regarding the exhaust question, but I get a 552

your question, I spent 100 bucks on the flowmaster and tubing, and
after the emissions fiasco I went through last year I had to buy a
new cat, so the high-flow cat was another 140.

Good
news about it is.... lift installed by dealer can't void the war! -Rob

It's a manual trans and t-case for a 6 cyl. TJ that only has about 12-
15k miles on them. It belongs to a friend of mine. E-mail me if
interested and I will give you his number.

Subject: Howell FI kit idle
Hey everyone, was wondering if anyone could maybe help me out here.
I'm not sure if this is a common issue with using the howell kit, but
when I come to a stop, the engine starts to idle really low, almost
to the point of stalling, but after about 5-6 seconds it idles back
up and is fine until I come to the next stop, then it idles down
really low again and then back up again. What I've checked already
is the fuel pumps, they are operating fine, as well as run a can of
injector cleaner through it. Also the throttle position sensor is
only about a month old. Thanks in Advance

Pitre Jeep sells TJ's with a 3" ProComp lift and the 33" BFG's. But they
also want $4K for the entire lift!

Good
news about it is.... lift installed by dealer can't void the war! -Rob

Subject: Another must-have for 4-wheeling: Sure Claw Wheel Anchors
I found a webpage that mentioned Sure Claw Wheel Anchors so I inquired
about them. Here's the response. Unfortunately no webpage for Mesa
Industries.
"One of the problems when 'wheeling is keeping my Jeep stationary when
winching others. The Jeep wants to creep towards the stuck vehicle when
winching on any surface other than slickrock or pavement. Mesa
Industries has the solution. Their SureClaw wheel anchors ensure that
your rig will stay securely in place when winching on virtually any type
of surface, even mud and snow. They fold up into a compact size and can
be stored in the supplied Ballistic nylon storage bag when not in use."
These anchors are really heavy duty but they are a bit pricey. Back in
'98 the set went for $169.

Subject: RE: AZ Heat and my TJ

Subject: [az_vjc] AZ Heat and my TJ

Subject: Fw: Cabo san Lucas via Jeep
