I saw most of you yesterday on the Broken Arrow run in Sedona. I was
the gold-colored CJ with the wife and kids. I wish I had gone with
the group, as this was my first time on the trail. I ended up
following a "pink" for directions. :-)

Well I know for a fact that both ARB and the Gearless have at
one time or another been removed from the market due to
exceptionally high failure rates in the D35.

I have no bias, I ran my D35 to 110,000 miles with no problem
and 30" tires. 44s grew under the jeep just before I went to
33s.

Have only been out at night a few times, but I actually appreciated the
extra light of anyone behind me. Simply adjusting my rearview and side
mirrors pretty much takes care of any issues with being "blinded". Unless
somehow I get pointing the wrong direction...not that that's ever happened
before!

I tried using my rock lights last night as trail lights, and for me, they
don't project enough light ahead of the vehicle. (Since I was leading, I
wasn't worried about shining them on anyone) ;) They do an awesome job of
lighting up the immediate vacinity around and under the vehicle (great for
the spotter to see what you are rolling over). There wasn't much (if any)
moon last night so no help from that source.

Since I have a pair of factory fogs which have a very thin (in the vertical
plane) beam, I'm going to angle them down some and rely on them for the
trail.

I know that the autos in use on the current TJs can suffer from fluid
starvation.

DC makes a deep pan for the autos...costs ~$40 or so, according to a friend
of mine. It is sold through the Mopar Performance group. The two guys that
I am aware of that have installed them that their problems on the steep
hills/obstacles have all disappeared.....well, maybe I should say that the
tranny related problems are gone....one of those guys still can't pick a
good line worth a hoot! LOL

the angle was at least 45 degrees, maybe even more. I was under the impression
that the tranny holds enough volume of fluid so that it didnt matter what the
orientation of the jeep is, it will still pump...except for being up side
down... is this incorrect? If it did pump air, what is to be done to be done to
bleed the air out? Like I said before, when this thing cooled down, it locked
up hard.

Wow, yeah I can see that as a problem. I'm guessing you were headed
up the hill to get a starvation angle ?

Tranny holds enough fluid for flat ground :) Not sure about the 4L?? GM
trannies but I can speak to the 727&999&904 family- the pump is at the
front of the case, and the pickup is not far back. Runnning at a
steep angle, there gets to be a point where the pump can't draw
enough fluid (to either activate a clutch or supply the torque
converter)

If it does mix in some air no worries, air bubbles will float out
of the fluid over time (minutes, hours). No problem getting it level
again and having everything good again.

FWIW the 727 I just build holds 8 quarts of fluid. 4 in the
torque converter, and that leaves about 2" of fluid in the pan
at rest on flat ground.

Here is the rule of thumb explained to me... If you are climbing or
going down a hill, wait for the other Jeep to finish! If the brakes
give and your right behind someone going down a hill you are going to
take both Jeeps out! Going up the hill right behind someone will not
give them room to back up if they find out they chose the wrong line!
I have seen the second one happen a few times where five Jeeps have
had to back up because all of them are 3 feet from each other! Any
other time follow however you want. If you are too close... I'll
speak up and tell ya! :) Just please remember what might happen if
that Jeep goes DIW (dead in the water) and plan on it, so if it
actually does... you'll be ready.

Anybody have or know where I can find a Dana Model 18 transfer case?
I have the AMC 360 V8 with the GM Turbo 400 transmission. I'm
looking to find one with passenger side drop front and rear, with
the "Texas" bolt pattern, that takes the 26 tooth input gear.

The other idea I've been tossing around is to toss the Turbo 400 and
get a TF727 and the Dana 300 if I can find one. One problem though
with this idea. The Dana 300 has a centered rear output, and my rear
diff is offset to the passenger side. Does anyone know if this
combination will create too extreme of a driveline angle?

Please call me at 602-689-1761 or email me if you have a transfer
case available.

Ok, after yestedays, Broken Arrow, run.
I nioticed I whacked my Stock Muffler, pretty good,

sure if when I pushed the muffler it pinched the
exhaust pipe. I did notice a loss of power on the way
home.
I was thinking of a CAT back, from Borla maybe.
Any toher suggestions woudl be greatly appreciated.
Also on where I could pick one up for a decent price!

In my most humble opinion I think the Borla is wwwwaaaaayyy over
priced when you can get a TFX header, AND cat back exh for the price
of the Borla exh alone. The power gain on both are the same, so I
don't see a huge difference in them. -Rob

pulling a camper that i have been pulling for 3 years up the hill into
payson. Previously I would be in second gear going up the hill out of Rye (I
think that is the little town with bike junkyard). This weekend I didn't
even use third and never got below 45 mph. I had my exhaust work done at
madhatter muffler. It cost me $180 (labor, muffler and pipe). This is
cheaper than most catbacks and you don't even have to get dirty. If want to
come over see what it sounds like give me a hollar (Crismon and Mckellips

It seems to me (without looking at it), that you would want to make up
some kind of mountong brackets that fastened to the frame. 3/16"
thick 1 x 1 angle iron or 1/8" wall tube should work. I prefer tube, it's a little
more rigid. Go with what fits.

I'd hesitate to take out "the intimidator" you mentioned as you may
distort the pan and it will no longer seal.

Hello,
I have a Tuffy Overhead Security Console for sale if anyone is
interested. This lockable console is brand new (it was only mounted
in my Jeep for 2 weeks). It holds two din-sized head units, cb
radio, up to two speakers, or any combination of the three. It fits
Jeep CJ's, YJ's (without soundbar), and TJ's. It includes all the
hardware, instructions, and is packed in the original box it was
shipped in. This console retails for $200 (without shipping) through
any of the Jeep aftermarket catalogs. I am only asking $175 Cash
OBO. I am located in Prescott Valley, Arizona and can save you
shipping charges by delivering (on a weekend) as far as Phoenix or
Flagstaff. If anyone is interested, please email me at
PistonHonda01@y...
For Pictures and/or further details (dimensions, etc.), you can check
it out at http://www.tuffyproducts.com/consoles/overhead.html (they
are asking $251 including shipping!). Thanks!
