Concours in the Desert
Saturday 1 April 2006
Peoria Sports Complex
9:00 am to 4:00 pm
Girl Scouts-Arizona Cactus-Pine Council is having its second annual Concours in the Desert car show.
41 classes of to include # 38 ROCK CRAWLER class, that is any Jeep or Jeep like rig, except Sand Rails-Dune Buggy which have there own class. Hackle [Jim] got them to add this class just for us Jeep folks, so lets make a good showing.;)
Admission is free.
If you enter a car its a $25 fee, which gets you a free T shirt and some other goodies. All proceeds go to support the Girl Scouts.
Options:
1) Pay $25 and get some goodies and a T shirt and have lots of folks ogle at your rig and ask a lot of questions. Who knows we might improve our image.:D
2) Pay nothing and bring you and the family to ogle all the cars and see some vendors and have a great time.:)
3) Go to Table Mesa or FJ and snap your axle and smoke your transfer case when you drive off the pavement. Then cuss and tell yourself you should have gone and helped out the Girl Scouts, saw my buddies and had a great time.
This is simliar to the Fart & Lie at the local Sonic except your doing something worth while for a change.

Don thanks for posting this up as I had a lot of fun last year and am looking forward to it again on Sat. I will be there for two reasons 1) the Girl Scouts is a great organization that I support. 2) As Don has spoken of many times we need to change our image this is a great way to do it. Let everyone that comes to the show see Jeepers and 4WD for what we really are. Hope we have a great turn out.

Hey guys, I see that admission is free. But will there be a way to donate if one was so inclined to do so while we are out there? I was out of town for last years.

Figure with you and I both beating the tub it may drum up more gawkers or players. If nothing else, they can say...well nobody told me about it...
The worst:
"There is one great thing that you men will all be able to say after this Girl Scout car and Jeep show is over and you are home once again. You can be thankful that twenty years from now when you are sitting by the fireplace with your grandson on your knee and he asks you did you attend the great April 1 Girl Scout car and Jeep show at the Peoria Sports Complex, you WON'T have to cough, shift him to the other knee and say, "Well, your Granddaddy broke an axle in Florence Junction.? No, Sir, you can look him straight in the eye and say, "Son, your Granddaddy rode with the Great Arizona Virtual Jeep Club and supported those Girl Scouts!"
Paraphrased from speech to the Third Army on June 5th, 1944, the eve of the Allied invasion of France, code-named "Overlord by General George Patton

Is everyone gonna enter or just park together as a group. My Rubi is pitifully stock and don't wana embarass everyone by puttin my little rig in the mix. I would love to enter as it goes to a good cause. Either way I'll see ya all there. Let me know what the plan is.

Just enter in class 38 for rock crawlers and this should get us all together. We had a good time last year, money goes for a good cause and we get to do a lot of bench rock crawling among us. Plus lots to see out there.

The other rig is Chris R's (My1stjeep) he was at the Friday news cast last year and they contacted both him late and I to be out there this morning to help promote the car show. Even though we both had to get there at 4:30 and wait till 8:30 to get on TV:)
We will both be out there entered tomorrow. Last year we had about 12 Jeeps from stock to trail rigs. Hope we have the same or more this year. Come on out the $25 is well spent on the girl scouts.

I remember from last year and as I saw your Jeep and the other one, I just thought to myself, WOW, I dodged another bullet on that one. Not sure what excuse I would have come up with if I had been contacted, something about having to wash my hair on Tuesdays:D

Chris called me last night, I'm gonna give him the 2 poster board with pics that Shauna and I made for the Glendale Parade last year.
I'm gonna have to miss this one :(
My second cousin just passed away, and a good friend is being married in Casa Grande this weekend.
Not much worse then 2 deaths in one week
Have a good time guys and gals ;)

You can barely tell it's Chris's jeep because they had to stay so far away from it because of the stinger/picnic table he has hanging off the front. :D

Well I guess it falls to me to do a trip report. I had hoped someone else would do the work and I could just add my two cents.
This show was much bigger then last year, lots of great cars and more people walking through. We even had a bigger turnout then last year as we had 12 to 15 vehicles in the number 38 Rock Crawler class.
I started to explain how many cool Jeeps were there (and there were many).
We had a good day of talking about everything under the sun and meeting new and old friends.
Bottom line
1st place) Jim Florence
2nd place) Lowtech
3rd place) Don Prior
I was amazed when Storm's Jeep was named in first place he is very proud:)
It was a fun day remember these type events help change our public image. There are several more car shows coming up I hope we can make a showing at some more of them.

I don't always do one unless something eventful happens so I was waiting on you Jim. That said:
Well over 300 cars were on display [meaning they paid the $25 bucks] which is almost double from that of last year.
Hot Rod TV was there w/cameras.:D
This event is growing both in attendance and acitve participants, look for this to start making some positive waves here in the valley with more and more coverage. Can live local TV and raido be far off???:)
I was surprised it took the better part of two days to get my Jeep clean in and out. Most likely the cleanest its been since I bought it. Not sure that is a bad thing. This might give us all a reason to clean our Jeep up once a year...huh Jamie?
We all sat around in the back of our Jeeps, Joe Daro lying like a rug, Jim Florence swearing it was all true and the rest of us either farting or belching and sayin unhuh:D ;)
Yep good time, good folks and great to see folks again and hope its not a year before I do.

Let me see if I got this straight
A "Nearly Stock" YJ is in first:D
A "Low Tech" XJ in second:D :D
A "Full Booty" and very clean TJ in Third:D :D :D
It was a good show and we had some good stories. I hear that we have a F1 racer among us...he is third in the US standings I believe.
This is on my list for next year:)
