Subject: Was Starter Problem

OK! Here is the Deal, I need everyone to put their heads together So
THat I may be able to come up with a solution.

I put a new Flywheel in my Jeep on Sunday, Put everything back
together
and Low and behold, I have a hard start problem still, A Kind of
grinding sound when I turn the Ignition switch, the teath on the
starter
are not broken, we checked the contact patern with the starter and the
flywheel before we put it back in the Jeep, and they matched good.

SO today I go to Pep Boys on my lunch break to get a shim, turns out
the guy at the store told me that they have shims, but not for my
Jeep.
The guy thought that they did because my starter is a ford starter,
and
they have shime for fords starters, but not my make, and the only
shims
they have are to shim the starter out or in but not sideways.

So here is what I was wandering, is there another starter for my Jeep
that is not made by ford, or any Ideas if an earlier year starter
would
fit or help.

TIA for any Ideas and/or suggestions

Sincerely: Very Dissapointed JEEP THANG

Subject: YJ bumpstop spacers?

I need to drop my YJ's front bumpstops down about 2 inches.
I don't want to use the axle-mounted extension brackets.
Unfortunately, the YJ frame is curved right where the bumpstop
mounts which complicates matters. What ever I end up doing,
I want it to look clean.

Anyone know of a good idea for frame-mounted spacers to
drop the front bumpstops down from the frame on a YJ?

I just put some spray silicon on them yesterday... I just sprayed a
rag and rubbed the zipper so I didn't get overspray everywhere! It
seems to work pretty good so far... I also bought a cheap D ring from
Home Depot, and cliped it on my rear view mirror. When I go to mess
with my windows I clip the D ring on the fob so I have a nice big tab
to pull instead of those little fobs! -Rob

I just got back from my insurance agent's office. He is an
independent, a friend of my family's that I have used for 23 years.
He has bailed me out of some bad spots, especially in my teenage
years. I went to discuss upgrades to my Jeep when it came to theft
and or vandalism. He said, if I get him all the reciepts of previous
upgrades and will send him copies of reciepts of upgrades when I get
them done in the future then, he will garnutee they will pay for my
vehicle and the upgrades (eg., lockers,....) should something happen.
He will keep a running file on my Jeep.
I don't if this would apply to anybody else, but if you have an
independent it might.
Good luck.

Subject: help with Bearings..

Ok, Well i just got back from 4-wheelers supply and
the guy there test drove my Jeep and came up with teh
conclusion that the noise I was hearing in my front
transfercase, was a worn out bearing.

It will only make the noise when it is put under
stress, it will not do it on flat ground. So he
couldnt make it do it at all, he was just going off of
what I was telling him.

Ok, well,
here is what it is doing.
When I am going uphill or the front end has to pull, a
noise that sounds almost exactly like a tire rubbing.
I know it is not the tire rubbing though.

Does anyone have any clue to what I am describing.
And if it is true that the front bearing in the
transfercase is gone. How hard is it to replace it?

Thanks a bunch!!

Greg,
I use a candel to rub on the zippers and that seems to work great. I have heard that a silicon spray work good too. I like the wax because there is no over spray and seems to hold up well.

Your U joints need only be replaced if they are worn. Get under your Jeep
and with your hand try to turn the drive shaft. What you are looking/feeling
for is it being loose. There should be no play between the pinion and drive
shaft. If so you should replace your U joints soon. Also it is a recommended
idea to keep a spare when on the trail. (they are cheep enough) IMO

A bar of soap works wonders. Wet it just a little and rub on the zippers while open. It withstands heat and after a rain your zippers are really clean. Seriously, it works. Also works on zipper flies after a dry cleaning. You know how hard those zippers can be to get up and down!!

Ding, ding, ding we have a winner!!! I went to take off my control arm bolts to measure and have some brackets made and notice that the bolts were lose. I tighten them, real good, and the noise went away. Now as far as the holes go, they are egg shaped still but, I think I have bought a little time to get the brackets made.

Okay, this is a before I start question, I am having this noise in
the front end of my TJ. At first I thought it was a bushing on a
shock the was completely gone, but when we were airing up I looked at
the bushings and they appear to be okay. The noise is a clunking when
hitting bumps and even when shifting from reverse to drive, it is
coming from the front end, like something is loose. I am thinking a
ball joint, wheel bearing, bushing on my Teraflex arms or something
of that sort, I have not completely ruled out the shock bushings.
If anybody has any suggestions on where to start looking and/or have
had a similar problems, I would appreciate the input on key points

Oh yeah, I was hearing this noise before the last few runs and
greasing (not wheel bearing, ball joints, arms and such) seemed to
temporarily help; for this Yahoo! Auctions $2 Million Sweepstakes - Got something to sell?

Yes, I have seen them at a couple different Costcos in Phoenix for $99.

I bought a Yellow Top Optima last week for $150. If you have a winch or extra lights the Yellow Top is a much better choice.
