mmkay, so im trying to take out my front axels so i can put in a Lock Right locker, but I have no idea what im doing. Im not mechanically retarted but i just need some expert help. The locker is cake, i put one in the rear and it took 2mins, but the front is just weird.

The axle is a 74 Scout II d44 in my 74 CJ-5 :D . I took off the manual locking hub crap and now im looking at a jigantor 2" nut. YES 2 INCH NUT! (no pun intended  ) Ive studied the thing for ever just scratching my head saying WTF. Im guessing i take it out right???? But i cant find a 2" socket anywhere. Does anyone happen to have one i can barrow for the day   . Then what do i need to expect after that?

Also how on earth do the brakes come off. They are the weirdest disc brakes ive ever seen. There is only one tiny bolt on the entire caliper. How do they come off? Better yet how am i supposed to replace pads?

Now i know there are some jeeps out there with Scout d44s, like i said the locker isnt the problem its just taking off the brakes and axles that i dont know what to do. Any help would be sweet thanks!

The 2" nut is the wheel bearing nut and what keeps your hub connected to spindle. Here's a thread with an exploded view of a Jeep 44, but it's basically the same...

You need a wheel bearing nut socket. Any auto parts store should have one and you should own one and keep it in your trail kit. Once you loosen/remove the nut there will be a few washers and the outer bearing behind it to remove, then the hub will come off.

Unsure about the Scout caliper, but my Jeep caliper just has a single bolt (good old Torx head) which holds a bar with a flat tension spring. You remove the bolt, tap out the bar/tension spring and then the whole caliper just lifts out.

I took my scout axle apart a few weeks ago to rebuild it and put it on my cj7 The bearing nut was different then any I have seen. It had a small allen set screw in the outside nut, acting as the "lock". The screw goes through the nut and into the middle washer. If yours is stripped out like mine was, a good chisel and hammer will unscrew it. After that, go to 4wheelers and get the new style. When you put them on, be sure to seat the bearings, then back off a quarter turn or so.
Your brakes should have one allen screw holding the retainer in place. The retainer and sping will slide right out with a chisel and hammer. Then the caliper falls right off.
Let me know if you have any other problems.
