Rick,
I had the same type of leak in my 98 when it was only about 8 months old. Turned out that it needed a new fuel module (1 piece sending unit, pump, etc). They told me that there was a crack in the plastic cap (had to replace the module to get a new cap). Fortunately, mine was still under warranty.

I know it's leaking but I can't find it. I have a 98TJ with a Tomken skid. When I fillup with gas (not overfill, when the pump shuts off I'm done) I end up with a little gas in my skid. I checked all of the fittings, the top of the tank no results. I have checked the sides and don't see any indication that gas has been running down the tank or from the top. I would think i damaged the tank itself but it only happens when I fillup. It's got to be the overflow but I can't find any signs that there is a leak there either. After the fuel evaporates I'm fine until the next fillup. Anybody have a guess?????

I guess maybe some of you watched the Fox NEWS Special this evening. If not, I would urge you to watch Sun. at 5pm, or obtain a tape.
This has got to stop! When the UN can come in and tell the American people how to live , and what they can, and cannot do, this has to stop. When the Federal Gov't can shut down millions of acres of public land, because some wacko green group says the Sage Grouse is endangered, there is something radically screwed up. When 100s of farms dry up and blow away, because they can't irrigate the land, that was deeded to vetrens after WWii, and that were guaranteed water, the system has really gone awry.
If you think they aren't going to take away our right to recreate on our land, wake up, and look around. Each one of us has to get involved, we have to fight and keep on fighting. As I write this, the forces to be, are trying to declare a wildlife corridor of some kind[a stay out zone, if you will] that will sweep through some of the best area we have, [Flo. Jct, Jawbreaker, Martinez Canyon, The Woodpeckers, The Ajax trails, ETC, will probably all be affected.]
Our idea of our fun, is just a small part of the big picture. There are people losing their homes, jobs, and their way of life.
We need to stick together, and fight not only for our right to recreate as we see fit, we need to start sticking up for everyone else's rights also.
Maybe I've ranted and raved long enough, lets see what some of the others have to say. If you want toFLAME me, do it on list or off, it doesn't matter to me.

There will, no doubt, be more Lift parties in the future and anyone is

One other thing. We've lifted a bunch of TJs lately. That doesn't mean thats
all we can do. I love working on all Jeeps from CJ-2As to FSJs to Liberties

Not sure on an XJ - just the general rule of thumb is 3 degrees or less. Over that and you get accelerated wear on the joints. With a lift, this may be hard to maintain, but with your longer d/s, it may not be a problem for you.

Hello All,
This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!
Joey Kulich lead a trail run Friday, May 18, 2001 across Lake Pleasant to Crown King
Aaron (TJ), Larry with his wife Connie (TJ), my wife and I (YJ) all met up at the Carefree Hwy exit. We started for the trail at about 6:45 pm. Just as we were leaving a mild dust storm hit. We out ran it.
Arriving at the dirt road we aired down and disconnected. Aaron led the group as he was most familiar with the trail. Aaron did a great job leading us through rougher parts of this trail.
My Jeep being open usually leads to an interesting time and this was no exception.
On one of the "short cuts" which was pretty well rutted I got the Jeep quite a bit twisted. My wife on the passenger side was looking out the window at the ground. It was pretty tippy.
By 9:00 the trail was quite dark. There was no moon and no stars due to the overcast. There were a few sprinkles along the way.
Near the end of the trail we took a side trip to an old shack. The place was pretty well trashed and there was a black van that was also pretty much vandalized. It could not have been there that long because the tires still had air.
We arrived at Crown King at about 12:30 or so, in time for a cold beer. We chatted for about an hour or so while we watched Aaron's topless Jeep get soaked in the rain.
On the way home there was a steady drizzle.
Of note the next day I looked at my Jeep and noticed I sheared the leaf spring centering pin. I must have been driving home sideways because the axel was twisted about three of four inches. (Thanks to the Baney brothers for helping me out, I got it fixed.)
I hope we all had a good time, Thanks all for making it such a great time. If I had to do it again it would be with a full moon.
Happy trails and be safe.

Hello All,
This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!
Mike Baney lead a trail run Saturday, May 19, 2001 across Ajax (Lower)
After a little late start, we finally made it to the trail. In attendance was Tom J, Larry F, Dan S, Joey K, James T, Bill B, and myself. It was a fast run, no problems except James getting stuck between a rock and a hard place, and Joey got bummed out because he did not get to use his fire extinguisher due to a small electrical fire on his Jeep. No big deal, we were only down for a couple of minutes, then right back to the trial! It was a perfect night, sprinkeled a little, but the trail was dry. We finished up at the water tank, and walked up upper ajax and we debated on running it. We only walked up about a quarter of a mile, and it does not look that bad. We decided to run it first in the day, then do a night trip through lower and upper some night!

Subject: Front End Noise
Okay, this is a before I start question, I am having this noise in
the front end of my TJ. At first I thought it was a bushing on a
shock the was completely gone, but when we were airing up I looked at
the bushings and they appear to be okay. The noise is a clunking when
hitting bumps and even when shifting from reverse to drive, it is
coming from the front end, like something is loose. I am thinking a
ball joint, wheel bearing, bushing on my Teraflex arms or something
of that sort, I have not completely ruled out the shock bushings.
If anybody has any suggestions on where to start looking and/or have
had a similar problems, I would appreciate the input on key points
when I get the thing in the air to start checking.
Oh yeah, I was hearing this noise before the last few runs and
greasing (not wheel bearing, ball joints, arms and such) seemed to
temporarily help; for this reason I am leaning more towards the ball
joints/arms.

2. I lost all of my dashboard instruments yesterday. This is not the problem for which there is a Service Advisory, I had that done already. All my lights work as normal but none of the gauges do. No gas, temp, speed, tach, oil. All needles stay pegged left. I checked all the fuses. Anyone have this happen? I suspect I may have fried the circuit board.
BTW, Bill Aylesworth finished my tonneau cover and it is very cool. I will post pix in a day or so. It is basically a 3/16 steel cover over the back area behind the driver/psgr seats. It required a cut and weld of the roll bar and some custom torch fitting for the piece that goes down behind the seat. What I have now is a giant and very secure glove compartment welded and bolted to the back of my Jeep. I am going to Herculine the inside and the outside and then re-mount my Mountaineer rack above it. Bill did a nice job of fitting and welding it - took about 5 hours total. Pix to follow.

Check Sam's Club (if you have a membership) for Herculiner. I've read
they sell a kit for about $89 or so. A bit cheaper than say K-Mart or
Ace Hardware who sell it for $99. I think the Sam's Club kit may
actually come with a gallon and a quart, compared to the gallon kits
sold at Ace and K-Mart.

Actually, we did it this morning. I guess the email was a little confusing.
There will, no doubt, be more Lift parties in the future and anyone is
welcome to attend even if it is just to observe and learn.
One other thing. We've lifted a bunch of TJs lately. That doesn't mean thats
all we can do. I love working on all Jeeps from CJ-2As to FSJs to Liberties
(if someone gets one - I personally like them). Wrenching parties are a good
way to learn how our Jeeps work.

1. does anyone know a good place (East Valley) to purchase Herculiner?
