My old cherokee was making bad noises when going around corners. I took the
rear diff apart and found a $5.00 bolt that holds the center pin to be worn
out. It might be worth your while to at least look at it.

I know that linda is looking to replace hers & intend to e-mail her
about her old one(if you read this what are you doing with it?). I do
not care drum or disk but do want a stock ZJ one I don't have the
money to buy a 8.8 or d44 & have all the brackets welded on. Mine
sounds real bad, seems to be from the center part not axle bearings &
don't want to waste any money on this old d35 if I can just swap it
out for cheap. So if some one is wanting to upgrade or already has I
am interested.
Thanks
John

This all really depends on how you get out there as to the second

If this is a stupid question, please ignore it. Can you upgrade to
Warn high strength inners and outers with 297x ujoints in a YJ with
the same axles as a TJ? They seam to be the same length. Seems to me
you could just seal up the disconnect and forget it. If this is
possible, couldn't you upgrade to the better 5 on 5.5 hubs? Thanx.

Steve you can install the TJ style axles from Warn but if you have front
locker of any type you may want to do as I did and install the Warn hub kit
so you can unlock the front wheels. The 5 on 5 is also an option when
putting in the hub kit.

Subject: Sat Night Runs - ON, Tom J. - OFF

Looks like my Jeep is still sick, so probably won't make the runs
tonight. Was really looking forward to going out.

Thought the belt was looking good, but when I got home last night, it
was starting to "walk" forward again. And it looks like the power
steering pump is going to be casualty as well...it's got a decent
little leakage going now. I'm not going to "that guy" who shows up
to a run with a wounded rig and expects everyone else to put up with
my problems...well, at least the Jeep's problems!

Anyone got a mechanic in the Mesa/Tempe/Chandler area to recommend?
That would also be open today (Sat)?

Subject: Re: GPS Coords PLEASE!!!

Talked to Mike last night and tried to give some verbal
instructions. In case no GPS coords come thru, I'll try to write the
directions here. Please clarify/correct me if something doesn't
sound right.

Taking the dirt road in from Hwy 60, you'll get to the area where it
get's a little twisty and there are a series of quick ups/downs.
Right after that, the road out to 79 (what is that, about 6-7 mile
in?) and to the camping area will be on your right. Passing by that
road, continue about 100 yds and you'll be turning left into a wash
(this is at the East end of Lower Woodpecker). Continuing along that
wash for maybe a 1/4 mi, Upper Woodpecker is on the left. Pass that
and continue along the main dirt road thru the wash. Not too much
further, the main road will appear to go straight (going straight,
this part of the road pretty much parallels Ajax) or make a 90° right
down into and across a wash. You want to turn right, but don't cross
the wash. Turn left up the middle of this wash and you'll be on
Lower Ajax!

You pretty much stay in the wash to run Ajax. The trail will cris-
cross that road a few times. I can't really think of a landmark that
denotes the end of lower/start of upper Ajax, but you'll be crossing
the road heading more or less North and the trail on the North side
looks a "little more difficult" ;) than what you've been running (you
can skip that as it just loops right back out to the road, and I
believe that the rest of Upper is on the right hand side (South) of
the road.

Good luck!

TJ (REALLY wantin to go now!)

From the east valley take Loop 101 north until you have to get off. Go west until you get to Scottsdale Rd and turn north. Scottsdale Rd turns into Tom Darlington at the Carefree Hwy. Follow Tom Darlington until it ends at Cave Creek Rd. Turn left and proceed to the first Circle K on the right.

The hub conversion will cost you around $800 from what I've seen. That's
half of what I've got in the Dana 44 I just swapped into my YJ. It's certainly
a matter of personal preference, but I felt it was worth it to do the Dana 44
swap instead of just the hub conversion.

If you have any questions about the Dana 44 swap, shoot me an email.

Keep all that with you and you know what will happen?
Your "SuperBelt" will snap, or your battery will die! Murphy's law
will break whatever you DON'T take with you, so here is my
suggestion... 1) Handheld GPS 2) CB or other type of communication
device you can use to transmit your GPS coord. with. 3) Survival Kit
including food and water (get a weeks worth of MREs from an army
surplus store... taste like crap but you'll stay alive. 4) Distress
beacon. There are some really kewl survival kits they make for downed
pilots that can be applied to Jeeps, I'm personally looking at
something like this....

I noticed someone posted that they had Direct TV and could not find Fox News it is on channel 360. I did not see a program listed as Vanishing Freedoms though.

Perhaps it's just me, but I don't think the AZVJC web site's current events
area should be used to advertise services. It appears Harold Hoover, whom
I've never met, has started using this area for non AZVJC events.

I'm sure someone will correct me if I misunderstood the intent of the
current event area on the web site.

I have to agree with Larry. I don't believe that the current events
section should be "commercialized". If an individual wishes to
advertise their business in this manner the space should be purchased.

I have to agree also. The intent was never for it to be a commercial forum.
Certainly, private individuals selling Jeep parts is perfect, but the other
stuff is spam and should not be posted, IMO. I see that Harold Hoover is
new, and probably just unfamiliar with the set up we have.

It has been brought to my attention that I failed to include directions for the location of the BLM Meeting on Wed. May 23, in Casa Grande.

These will work for both Tucson people, and those coming from the valley:

Exit I10 at 194, travel 3 miles to West on Florence Blvd. Elks Lodge is on South side of street.
