I'm working on the 231 SYE install and I'm having an issue getting the front yoke nut off. I've been using an impact wrench, soaking it with liquid wrench and have it in 4L per instructions but to no avail, anyone have any suggestions or tricks?
Thanks,

Thanks,
I loosened mine when it was in the Jeep but did the SYE on the bench. I used a 3/4" drive (swivel, not a ratchet) and a breaker bar. It was difficult. If it wasn't for the fact that I have gained about 40 pounds in the last year or three I probably would not have been able to do it alone.
If the case is on the bench, you might need an impact drive.

If you can not get it loose, come but the shop and I will zip it off for you.

The case is on the bench and I've been using my air impact wrench on it, but the yoke with the nut keeps spinning. Should it be doing this?

OK, I'm a loser, I just broke my c-clamp and I can't get my vice around the yoke. How do you guys lock down the yoke for those stubborn nuts

mine zips off with the impact without holding it... how big of a compressor are you using?

I have used a BF pipe wrench on the yoke plus BF breaker bar on the nut using the concrete floor of the shop to turn against.

Maybe you need a BF friend to hold the BF pipe wrench. I removed mine while it was still in the Jeep. It helps to have a BF engine halding the other end of the T-case. Where are you?

Question:
You are saying the front yoke. There is no need for the front yoke to come off. Are you sure you don't mean the rear yoke?
Switch the transfer case into 4Lo. Then the yoke won't spin.

Mike,
The front yoke has to come off. Remember: http://www.stu-offroad.com/engine/sye/sye-1.htm
I think ours were easier because we left it on the vehicle.

I've got a 15 gallon compressor w/ 275ftlb impact wrench. That's what I was hitting it with first.
I was using my BF breaker bar w/ 4ft pipe extension when I broke the c-clamp. I don't have a pipe wrench, but I'll see if I can borrow one from work! Hopefully that will do the trick.
Wayne, I'm in Chandler by Doson & Warner.
Thanks for the ideas and input guys!

I got mine off by letting the tub hold the pipe wrench while I applied my entire 200 pounds to a 24" breakover bar. Not an easy task, you might consider letting Todd at Desertfab help before you break something else. (like yourself) I live in Goodyear and have a BF pipe wrench. If you need a hand, let me know, I could probably get there later.

That's what I did the first time. Tub, tubby and breaker. :D

Too late for me to cross town today, and I'm going wheeling tomorrow, but keep me posted on how it's going. I still think that Todd at Desert fab. is your best bet.

Oh ya:D:D:D, that's my Jeep sitting there too!:o
Now it's coming back to me...we put it in 4 Low and used a big a$s compressor :D.
Can you not select 4 Low with the case out of the Jeep?

I just got home from work and was able to borrow a 24" pipe wrench! I won't be able to take a shot at the T-case until I get the kids in bed, I'll post up with the outcome of my attempt!
As far as the 4L goes, yes I am able to shift into it, I went through 2H,4H,N,& 4L (full range)to make sure I had it in 4L. With the case out, I don't think that there is anything to stop it from spinning.

Yea! I did it, I got my nut off!;) The combo of BF pipe wrench and BF breaker bar/pipe combo worked! Thanks for all the input and offers for help! It's nice to know that there are many helping hands around:)
Here's a pic of the winning combo.

I am surprised nobody touched that one yet! What is happening on this board?
Everyone's selling their jeeps... although I still have my doubts about D-man's, Lance hasn't been rescued in over a week, no raunchy posts on this 'easy-target' comment.
