Heya Folks. The 2006 Rockcrawling Season has begun, and W.E. ROCK would like to invite you to a front row seat for the action.
This IS a series event, so hotels and at least a good portion of, if not all, fuel reimbursed... please don't bring a motorhome that takes $500 to fuel and expect a full reimbursement unless you have several folks with you that are working the event as well :)
Lunch and a couple of Judges Shirts, as well as discounted Event shirts are provided.
There is also dry, self-contained camping for judges and staff onsite, or hotel assignments for those not fortunate or brave enough for the great outdoors.
You will be assigned to a room with another judge, so bring a friend to work and you can share the room with a familiar face.
This event is HUGE. Last year, even with the rain, the event brought over $1.3 million to the Globe economy, and they love us for it!
Don't miss the Friday night pre-event party at the bar downtown... they're CLOSING OFF THE STREET for a block party in the middle of town for us!

Judging isn't rocket science. It's the most fun you'll have while busting you butt. Take it from me, after 6 years of doing this! The judges' meeting is at 8AM sharp on April 8th at the comp site. This allows those that have a job to get their full day of work in and get to the site. Hotel assignments will be handled through email for those that COMMIT! If you aren't sure, let me know. We don't get mad that easily, even though hotels get expensive especially when you have like 20+ rooms :)

Would love to, again, see a large contingent of VJCers out there helping out. For those that had issues with Congress, let me restate... This IS A SERIES EVENT, you WILL be taken care of!

Contact me through the email listed with AZVJC or through PM with your name, phone number, location and what you'd like to do as far as judging, assistant judge, staff (parking, judge support, scoring, etc.) and if you'll need a hotel or plan to camp.

Thank you all in advance, for your continued support of W.E. ROCK and the extreme side of the sport we all love so much!

Can you explaine the different types of jobs. Like Rachel says judge support, are you basically a gopher for them? Actualyl that is the one I'd like clarified, most others seem to be pretty eslf explanatory.

Even the judge positions are not that hard to pick up. Just remember to be consistant. If you screw up on the first one screw up the same way for everyone. I had fun and love working with WE Rock they support you and have your back at all times. I would love to work the event, but I am heading to Moab on that Sat for a week so the schedule does not work out for me. We Rock is well worth your effort and support.

Is it possible to know the judging standards well ahead of time? I would like to know about the judge support position also. Thanks.

Yes, download the General Rules from http://www.we-rock.cc/rulebook.php This will familiarize you with the rules you'll be following most of the time.

As for "other" positions...
Assistant judge: help the course judge with items such as staging, crowd control, cones, exit gate... whatever the course deems needed by more than on person. One rul of thumb here: If you don't see it, don't call it example: if yo see a cone fly, but didn't actually see the vehicle hit it, then you wouldn't be in a position to call it. :)

Support staff: running water/lunch for judges, helping with scoring, crowd control, staging between obstacles, running for scorecards that a judge needs to review, etc.
Basically, you're free to roam, until called on the radio.

Very good questions, and happy to answer them. Also, Hackle... <bartles_n_james>thank you for your support</bartles_n_james>:D

I will be in Moab that weekend or I'd be there. I had a blast at flood fest last year. I was a judge and very happy about that. We were the only ones who were high up on the obsticals. So we wernt covered in mud. Like the rest of the folks there. Great Great Great event. You could just feel the energy even with the terrible conditions. Good luck to team Desertfab, and all those that finish second to them. :)

That was you up there with me? Hey, man... been a year and i still wanna say thanks again for your awesome help. I couldn't have done it without ya.
How about that beautiful blue Jeep that rolled through the exit right after Becca moved that huge rock?
My boot that went in when I went knee-deep is still in the garage and looks like a solid chuck of red cement.

Glad you had a good time and hope to see you at other events!

Just remember to be consistant.

Jim is correct.. as a competitor we understand that not everythign is going to be perfect. Explain what your looking for before the round starts... and be fair to everyone. If someone wants to argue - don't. Find a course marshall and let them deal with it.

Yes we are there to compete - we want to win. But we are also there to have a good time. Consistency is the key.

Rockstomper Racing will be there sometime early on Friday morning... anyone who comes out feel free to stop us and say hello!

I Judged with Hackle on the Saturday portion of the comp at put up or shut up.........2 Judges per obstacle is the best.......adn the most fun.......that way one can take the up side and one the down side and do less scrambling to see everything.........be consistant.......and have fun. judging you get to be right in teh mix of teh thing and see the subtle things of team work from the competitors that you would normally miss......come on and get involved. The staff always treats you great....makes sure got all the water you could ever need.......brings you lunch etc.

this is a chance for you to help out a great group of guys and learn technique and team work at the same time
