I know that Warn sells a "Receiver Shackle Bracket" that is exactly
what you are talking about. You can pick one up at probably any Warn
distributor in town.

I checked into that before I made my own. Warn wants 40 buck for it and that
does not include the clevis. I think it has some gold in there somewhere.

With out looking there could be several problems.
But the first thing that is apparent is the TC dropdown. To my understanding
TC spacers are not needed until you get to at least 3" of lift.

This may sound odd but is the radiator full and the over flow bottle full? Low fluid can cause this oddity of incorrect gauge reading until the vehicle overheats.

Here is a brain teaser.
Recently on the freeway I looked at the temp gauge and it was reading 100 deg. My 4 cyl. usually runs at 210 deg. I have recently replaced the temp sensor and it has been working great.
When I get in the Jeep when it is cold the gauge starts to indicate the rising temperature all the way up to 210 deg. When it gets to 210 it hangs there for a bit then it steadily slowly falls back to 100 deg. The 100 mark is up from where it sits when the Jeep is off. I am puzzled. I replaced the new sensor for the old one, which was good, with the same results. I have also check all wiring and connections, including to the computer connector, sensor and gauge.

Also of note. There is no discernable performance that I have noticed.

Any help is appreciated.

I am looking for something that will fit in to my 2" receiver that I can attach a clevis (spelling ?) loop to.

I was going to just buy a piece of 2" square cold rold steel and drill 1 hole for the pin and 1 hole for the loop pin. Does anyone know where I can get some of the steel in the East Valley.

Thanks

Anyone up for a Lower Control Arm Party? I found a place that will sell me
bushings(Performance Suspension on 35th Ave North of Thomas), but I have to
have the control arm(s) off so we can measure it out and get one that fits
correctly. Bad part is I live in Surprise, and my wifes car is due to be in
the shop(all day Sat) searching for the leak in her AC. So I am probably
going to have to remove one of the arms in the parking lot of the bushing
place(only open from 9:00am to noon on Saturdays). Just to make this go
smooth I was wondering if there was anyone that might want to give it a go
with me on Sat? I will buy breakfast... Also might help if we had a floor
jack(I only have a high lift). If you are interested email me or call
602-871-4385(my pager, easiest way to reach me).

I would like to get there as close to 9:00am as possible so the pavement has
had a chance to get hot yet(front of store will be in the shade in early
morning).

Chris,

I gave a complete set of control arms to Stu... barely used and with perfect
bushings in them. Why don't you check with Stu and see if he might be
willing to loan you his complete set, you can install them and then when you
get bushings you can give the bushings to Stu... I'd be willing to bet that
he only wants the bushings anyways so it might save him having to press the
bushings out of the control arms I gave him. I'd check with Stu... he's a
nice guy AND he lives on your side of town.

Joe West.

Hello All,

This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!

Joey Kulich is leading a Lake Pleasant to Crown King trail run on Friday, May 18, 2001.

When: Friday 6:30ish
Where: I17 and Carefree Hwy. The turn off for Lake Pleasent.
Rating: 3.0
Length: 5+ hours
CB Channel: 4

We'll meet up at the Carefree exit to leave around 6:30 or so. I have only done this trail once (backwards) so I'm looking for someone else to lead. This is a night run so bring flashlights and maybe a sweater for the cooler temperature in Crown King. It is also a lengthy one so bring plenty of water and/or snacks.
This should be pretty fun for a night run and a chance to practice your night trail driving skills. The trail is rated 3.0 so any and all are welcome.

The Lake Pleasang to Crown King trail is a local favorite. On any given weekend, there will be numerous groups of four wheelers, ATV's and motorcycles heading to and from Crown King.

The trail takes off from the Castle Hotsprings Rd and travels through the foot hills and up the side of the mountain, giving nice views of Lake Pleasant and the Valley. There are some tougher optional sections that can make it interesting.

The trail goes through the old ghost towns of Fort Misery and Oro Belle, both of which are remnants of the Mining era of the Bradshaw Mountains. All that remains now, are foundations and a few crumbling walls. Fort Misery makes a nice place to stop and eat lunch as the small creek usually has running water and there are trees to provide shade.

In the winter months, the trail from Fort Misery through Oro Belle to Crown King will often have snow and/or ice. In the summer, an early start is necessary to stay ahead of the rising temperatures.

Once on top of the mountain, the trail runs through the cool pines and into Crown King. In Crown King there are places to eat and have a drink, and a general store that sells some excellent fudge.

There are campgrounds on top of the mountain near Crown King for those wishing to stay overnight. The fastest way down is via the main road which leads through Cleator and toward Bumble Bee. You can split off and go through Cordes Junction, which will get you to the Freeway quicker, or keep going strait and go through the little town of Bumble Bee.

Alternatively, you can take the Senator Highway toward Prescott or Mayer, this can be a very interesting trail during snow season. If you have the time, follow Towers Mountain rd through Crown King and up to the top of Towers Mountain, there are some excellent views and you can join back up with the Senator Highway afterward.

Have fun, remember to bring water and your camera.

Enjoy, and remember to TREAD Lightly!

I thought the R-12 replacement was called "Freeze 12". I've also heard
that none of the A/C equipment manufacturers warranty their equipment

Subject: Re: YJ U-joint problem

I would Say that the Problem is the T_Case drop as well, with only a
2.5" lift the and t-case spacer the Spacer could be
craming the driveshaft into the back of the T-Case, and stressing the
hell out of U-Joints when the suspension
is compressed, either that or he may have a severely unbalanced
driveshaft, maybe that is why he put the t-case drop in
he might have felt a weird vibration and thought that it was the
angle of the driveshaft.

That is about my best guess

Hope anything helps:

Chris....how about this.

You drive down to my house at 67th Ave. and Camelback and park your ride.

Then we pull your arm and go get your parts.

That way, we can use all the stuff at my house and I don't have to pick that
heavy SOB floor jack up and move it. ;)

Regards,

Joe West.

Hey John: I'm running Predator Saturday morning, but, assuming I'm
still in one piece and not too tired, I may drag my sorry butt out to
your run, too. I think my wife has a party to attend. Don't wait
around for me, but if I'm coming I'll call your cell.

Howdy Michael --

I have a setup much like yours. Mine does have a small lift and
slightly larger tires (2" spacer lift, 31x10.5 tires). I also use mine
for more getting out into the boonies rather than off-roading for the
heck of it (not that there's anything wrong with that ...).

I would recommend armor plating first. I have gas skid (tomken, I
would get a kilby skid if I were to do it over again), engine skid
(skid row, protects oilpan and more), steering box skid (rusty's) and
rocker panel protection (turbo city side bars). A little steel makes a
big difference in "survivability" for the Jeep. Skids are more
important than lift IMO. Oil pan and gas tank skids are probably the
most important. The steering box is also pretty expossed. Rocker panel
damage probably won't strand you anywhere, but it is still good to
prevent on such a new vehicle.

As mentioned in other posts, the dana 35 axle isn't strong. However,
it should be ok on a stock Jeep with a sane driver. Spare axle shafts
aren't a bad idea though. Remember, you need more than axle shafts.
You need tools, axles shafts, c clips, some RTV (and optionally a
gasket), and gear oil. For tools you need some wrenches including an
odball 1/4" 12 point box end wrench. You can possibly get away without
the weird wrench, but I wasn't able to once (fortunatly this was in my
garage).

If you have a dana 44 axle, I wouldn't worry about it.

The tie rod can get hit easilly since it is in the front. If you are
unlucky or very aggressive, you could break it. It is much more likely
that you would bend it. A bent tie rod can be bent back (may take the
application of a lot of force, like slamming it into a rock). A spare
wouldn't be a bad idea. Even better, get a heavy duty one use the
stocker as a spare. I haven't done this.

You probably want to carry some engine oil (a 5 quart jug should be
fine) as well as brake fluid, gear oil, possibly atf fluid (transfer
case takes it, as well as auto transmission). This being arizona ---
take LOTS of water.

A decent set of wrenches and ratchets, torx drivers, screwdrivers, a
hammer, etc are always handy. Some bailing wire and JB weld could also
come in handy. A breaker bar or cross wrench for the lug nuts might
been needed.

The Factory Service Manual might be a lifesaver, especially if you
haven't done much work on motor vehicles. Even a Hayne's or Chilton's
is better than nothing though they don't compare to the FSM.

Some common problem areas on the TJ include some of the sensors
(particularly the TPS and CPS). If you do deeper water crossing (I
don't if I am alone), you may need your spare oil, and some WD40 to
spray out your distributer/alternator/starter.

Communications gear could be handy. Cell phone, CB, whatever else you
have might be needed.

If you are new to offroading (or new to little Jeeps), go out with the
club. It is very handy to see what these vehicles can do. It is better
to make your mistakes when people are around.

Your TJ is a very capable vehicle. It can go just about anywhere any
other stock vehicle can go and often to places other vehicles can't
except with modification. But the Jeep is not designed to "power
through" things. It is really more suited to finesse. Just take things
slow and easy. Your best "spare part" is your head. If you use it
well, you probably won't break things on the trail. Don't neglect
preventative maintainence. Become familiar with you vehicle so you can
tell when things aren't quite right so you can fix them before they
leave you stranded.

Not exactly a spare part, but I would highly recommend sway-bar disconnects.
(Its actually an "anti-sway-bar") There are several types available,
ranging from about $50 to $100. Its remarkable how "flexy" TJ's are with
the sway-bar disconnected. This translates into "all four wheels on the
ground" more often...which is important if you're not going to put in
lockers. Remember to reconnect the bar when you get back on the highway, or
you'll see why its called an anti-sway-bar!

Happy Jeeping!
