Does anyone know who has the best prices on Yellow top Optima's in Tucson? I'm switching out some electrical parts today and figured on doing the battery at the same time.

Subject: [TR] Lake Pleasant to Crown King - Friday, May 18, 2001

Hello All,

This is an automated message from the website, please do not reply to it!

Joey Kulich is leading a Lake Pleasant to Crown King trail run on Friday, May 18, 2001.

When: Friday 6:30ish
Where: I17 and Carefree Hwy. The turn off for Lake Pleasent.
Rating: 3.0
Length: 5+ hours
CB Channel: 4

We'll meet up at the Carefree exit to leave around 6:30 or so. I have only done this trail once (backwards) so I'm looking for someone else to lead. This is a night run so bring flashlights and maybe a sweater for the cooler temperature in Crown King. It is also a lengthy one so bring plenty of water and/or snacks.
This should be pretty fun for a night run and a chance to practice your night trail driving skills. The trail is rated 3.0 so any and all are welcome.

The Lake Pleasang to Crown King trail is a local favorite. On any given weekend, there will be numerous groups of four wheelers, ATV's and motorcycles heading to and from Crown King.

The trail takes off from the Castle Hotsprings Rd and travels through the foot hills and up the side of the mountain, giving nice views of Lake Pleasant and the Valley. There are some tougher optional sections that can make it interesting.

The trail goes through the old ghost towns of Fort Misery and Oro Belle, both of which are remnants of the Mining era of the Bradshaw Mountains. All that remains now, are foundations and a few crumbling walls. Fort Misery makes a nice place to stop and eat lunch as the small creek usually has running water and there are trees to provide shade.

In the winter months, the trail from Fort Misery through Oro Belle to Crown King will often have snow and/or ice. In the summer, an early start is necessary to stay ahead of the rising temperatures.

Once on top of the mountain, the trail runs through the cool pines and into Crown King. In Crown King there are places to eat and have a drink, and a general store that sells some excellent fudge.

There are campgrounds on top of the mountain near Crown King for those wishing to stay overnight. The fastest way down is via the main road which leads through Cleator and toward Bumble Bee. You can split off and go through Cordes Junction, which will get you to the Freeway quicker, or keep going strait and go through the little town of Bumble Bee.

Alternatively, you can take the Senator Highway toward Prescott or Mayer, this can be a very interesting trail during snow season. If you have the time, follow Towers Mountain rd through Crown King and up to the top of Towers Mountain, there are some excellent views and you can join back up with the Senator Highway afterward.

Have fun, remember to bring water and your camera.

Enjoy, and remember to TREAD Lightly!

I'm thinking of heading up to the Sierra Anchas and do some trail

very interesting. It'd be in the lower elevations, so it may get hotter, and
would require some hiking and such, and possibly some trail work.

I'm not totally sure yet if I can head out then, but so far - it looks good.

I don't know how many of you get 4Wheeldrive Hardware magazine but
they have what I think is a pretty good deal. $1349 for a Dana 44
for a YJ and $1299 for a CJ. It has everything but the carrier
(bearings, shims, etc.) but since most people would put in a locker
it wouldn't matter. They also have front D44's. They use the 30
spline inner axle and a 27 spline outer so you can use all of your
stock steering components and they also come with 297x u-joints. By
the way, these are Currie axles if it matters. Just thought I would
pass this on.

If someone has an electric or air impact wrench it will make the work

Speaking of R-12. I'm sure a few of you out there
have old AC units in your jeep that still work, or you
want to get working, but they run on R12. DO NOT
SPEND THE MONEY TO CONVERT TO 134A.
There is a replacement for R-12 called free zone that
anyone can buy without a licence. It was designed to
work in R-12 systems and it cost about $3-4/can (as
opposed to $40/can for R-12). It's only been
available for a short time so it's hard to find. My
brother is in the AC biz and he's mailing me some he
got direct from his supplier.

Sorry, I forgot to mention the price for the front D44's on my last

you want disc brakes. You also have your choice of gearing.

Free zone is non-flamable non-toxic and completely
approved by the EPA. It contains zero propane or

I'm sure there's been some dangerous stuff out there

FWIW...I had the same problem with a Baja I used to have...sollution; Place a
short (2" or so) 'blinder' on the bottom 1/3 of the light...Kinda like those
chrome things you sometimes see on classic car headlights. It puts a shadow on
the hood, but doesn't impair the lights function. Worked great for me!!

why do you want round lights? you should get square one's, and maybe
your jeep will perform better off road. just kidding, well maybe just
a little.
