I was reading in my backroads book that the Steel bender trail in Moab is extremely dangerous when wet. Has anyone ran it recently that can offer some insite to if this is true or false. We plan to run it when we head up at the end of the month. And chances are good it could be wet.

It was drying out the day we ran it. I found it a dull trail with not many obstacles and the few that are there were not all that hard for a well built Jeep. In 9 trips to Moab, I have done SB once and that was enough.

I think it crosses a creek a couple of times, if I remember correctly (been a few years). Is there a flash flood danger? I can't imagine anything else on the trail being "dangerous", wet or dry.
I too found it boring, much like Don said. It was one of those trails with rocks just big enough to make a bumpy ride for hours at a time. I'll not spend my time on it again.

Book says.
Under wet conditions, the shelf road at the north end of the trail becomes extremely slick and dangerous. It also goes on to say. After you start to descend, you go through a gate, then theres a series of switch backs that when wet can become impassable, because when wet, there so wet you cant find any traction, which causes you to slide uncontrollably. My book is a couple years old. I'm wondering if, like Don says. Maybe there not taking into account, a well built rig.

Correct on the creeks, maybe its a flash flood thing. Yea there are some switch backs and if it hadn't been for them it would have been no fun at all. Even they are not anything to write a trip report about. Albeit it was not raining, it was drying out from rain/snow. No more slick than dodo always is:D
