I've been researching exhaust mods for my TJ since with the RE long arm you must use a smaller muffler to allow clearance for the upper rear arm. The general consensus on some of the forums I frequent is that the flowmaster is a good muffler for a Jeep. What size tubing to run behind it has drawn lots of debate. Those shops that have dyno'd the Jeeps after doing the mods found that the 4.0L motor gets the best low RPM torque from 2.25" tubing. But the 2.5" tubing gets better power higher up for more all around offroad and street use. I prefer my power down low for rockcrawling. It really depends on how you use your Jeep as to which route you go.
I think I'll be getting the Flowmaster on mine. Sounds like a sweet setup and at a reasonable price.

Well I got it done today. Flowmaster with 2 1/2" exhaust out the back. Its
nice and queit now. Did seem to loose a little power as compared to when I
didn't have a muffler or tailpipe but its a whole lot more peaceful. Had it
done at madhatter muffler on Broadway and gilbert. Did a nice job it cost
$175.00 muffler,pipe and labor.

Well, what kind of opinion are you looking
for? What kind of wheeling do you do? Do
you need that much tire? If the answer's
yes, then the SX may be for you.
I run that tire in that size on a daily driver
and weekend rockcrawling rig. If I wasn't
running 4+ trails, I wouldn't run the SX.
It's loud, it's hard to balance, it flat spots,
it's heavy, it wears fast. Did I mention it
was loud?
BUT ... it's also the toughest, grippiest tire
you'll find for the trails we have here. I had
the TSL Radial previous to the SX. It's just
as loud and the sidewalls will split if you
breathe on them wrong. Your other
consideration might be the new 37 SSR or
the new 36x14.50 Parnelli Jones tire. Or,
if you've got money to burn, the 37-inch
MT/Rs. Good luck.

Well, took everyone's advice and did a good (?) inspection of everything and
found...nothing! All pulleys are aligned, tight and don't wobble. I
tightened the h-balancer a bit, started the jeep and watched a while. Still
nothing. The belt rotated a little irregularly (only because it is partially
separated from the last time it came off), but all the pulleys spun true. It
got late, so called it a night. The old belt is off so will re-check
everything tomorrow after work and, I guess, put on the new belt and give it
a test drive to work on Friday...
Thanks so far,

Just want to know if there is an interest to do Crown King from Lake Pleasant on Friday night. Break in the rock lights for those with new ones and get some night experience for those of us less experienced. I am hoping that someone signs on that has done the trail and can lead, as I have only been the wrong way once. (started at CK). Thinking of starting about and hour before sunset and make it a lazy evening to CK. Then maybe in CK have a drink or two at the bar.
Any takers?

When: This is a Saturday night run. We'll try to meet up at 8p.m and hopeful be on the trail around 9 at the latest.
Where: Everyone will meet at the second Circle K going East in Cave Creek.
Rating: 3.0+
Length: Hopefully not all night...(LOL)

As many have heard, there will be some challenging obsticles for some of the stock and not so experienced drivers. This is not a bash a Jeep in kind of trail. There will be experienced drivers and plenty of equipment there to help along in case of a problem. The rest of the trail is well established and used.
Don't run this trail if you have to be done in a couple of hours. I didn't put in a duration due to the amount of people that may go and well, things happen on the trail that just might take a little longer than expected.

Yes Linda New England is under lock and key. I wanted to wheel so
I bought land. Not the ideal situation. One spectacular trail
that I know of was on private paper company land. Paper company
gave the land to the state. Instant gates and nobody allowed in.
We have one or 2 good trail rides a year within a 6-hour drive.
I drool over seeing the postings on the VJC. Heck I'm tempted
to move out for that reason alone. But for now I plan to do
a lot of wheeling on my vacation in Phoenix!!

Subject: New rubber!
Hi folks, you may remeber me as the goof in Maine whos building a
CJ then driving it down to Phoenix.
Well the buildup is coming along well, just waiting for some
parts for the 727 auto tranny to get it all back together. Front
44 is in, springs re-re-hung, shock towers stretched out,
fenders trimmed, YJ flares on, and ho-lee-cow do I have room
for larger tires under there.
Of course now I'm kicking myself for only gearing it to 3.08 !!!!
But to the question at hand, I need to get some rubber and
was looking for the local oppinion on what's good. When it's
out there it will get a lot of street use, but trail capability
is just as important.
Probably looking to go 31x10.5, or maybe 32" if it's a light
tire. As I said before, 3.08 gears are gonna be the biggest
issue. I had a set of 33s on there last night, plenty of
room for them, too! But anyway if anyone has some thoughts
on what's good.
I have been tempted by some 31x10.5s, private label made by
kelly, in a pattern almost identical to the BFG mudders.
Dirt cheap too, $70 per...
Any thoughts ?

As some of you may know, I now have my pipe bender, want to start

want a good look but My biggest concern is to keep the back seat safe
for when we start taking my Daughter fourwheeling with us, SO the
Design is the part that I am going to take lots of care on, but in
the mean time I have been reading articles (I.E. Alloffroad has a
good one and the new fourWheeler), My question is What exactly is DOM
tubing, where do you get it, Whats the Difference, and I am planning
on Using .120 wall 2" tubing for the additions to the cage, is that
too thin. Any advice will be greatly appreciated, and is it
reasonably priced to have a shop build the cage, FUll 6 point. I saw
someone on this group posted pics of their rig having the new cage
built, I was wandering if off the board you could shoot me a ball
park figure. I may end up using a shop , then using the bender to
build my daughters Sniper.

If you are getting a response that the server is not available or
busy, then you might want to try again later. Uploading JPG's does
put quite a strain on the server; you may also try resizing the files.
The website is going to reduce the size to a maximum of 640 pix wide
or 640 pix high. Also the "Quality/Compression" factor is going to be
set to 50. So uploading an ultra-high quality 100kb file doesn't
necessarily mean that it is going to stay that way. Most jpgs stored
on the server are between 30kb and 60kb.

Subject: AzVJC 3rd Anniversary (Aug 2001) Trail Run?
Hello All,
If I read the archives correctly, August 16th will mark the 3rd Anniversary
of the first AzVJC trail run. I think we need to have a trail run to
celebrate. Any suggestions as to the trail? The trail should be doable for
"stock" Jeeps so that all may participate. I know the first run was Crown
King, or we can go with FR-42, or the Coves; it'll still be a bit on the hot
side, so something in the mountains is probably better. Suggestions for the
date? August 18th is the first Saturday after the 16th, is this suitable?
Something like this will likely draw quite a crowd, so we'll want to break
down into "sub-groups" no matter which trail we choose. Probably 10-15 Jeeps
per group. So we'll need group leaders, any volunteers?

Subject: Re: DOM Tubing
DOM Drawn Over Mandrel tubing. Basically a smooth
tubing both inside and out. Electric welded tubing has
a seam on the inside.
DOM tubing is more expensive than the welded tubing by
far. Unless you are looking at high-speed rollovers
you can use the welded tubing. If you want more
strength out of a welded tube cage, use triangles
instead of 90’s (degrees) at the meeting point of your
loops I would use .120 wall tubing. This is the size
tubing that SCORE requires for all racing
cars/buggies/trucks. Most of the racing guys use
Cromoly tubing, Higher Carbon content, stronger,
lighter, yet a little bit more brittle. The mild steel
will absorb more energy. I am going to build mine
with welded 1 ¾ .120 wall.
What version of CAD are you using? And what kind of
bender did you get? I have the M-Tech manual bender
with two dies. 1” square 3.5 radius. (Real nice) and a
1 ¾ round 5.5 radius. I also have a nice bender
software package if you don’t have one. Tells you bend
start points and a few other fun toys. It is by
Mittler Bros.
As for Pricing, If you are going to have someone build
it for you don’t really have to much say so on the
tubing price. If you buy it yourself, shop around. I
have had several different prices given for the same
steel, sometimes a dollar a foot difference!

Subject: Re: Exhaust

Subject: DOM Tubing
As some of you may know, I now have my pipe bender, want to start
building a cage for the Jeep, It will probably be a little while
before I even start, Right now I am Designing the Cage in AutoCad, I
want a good look but My biggest concern is to keep the back seat safe
for when we start taking my Daughter fourwheeling with us, SO the
Design is the part that I am going to take lots of care on, but in
the mean time I have been reading articles (I.E.

Subject: Re: Posting Pictures
