HB 2074 was scheduled for a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on February 20, 2006. That hearing was canceled.

HB 2074 is now scheduled for debate and a vote in the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday, February 27, 2006 at 1:30 PM in Senate Hearing Room (SHR) 1.

HB 2074 is an AzCDL supported bill that eliminates the CCW renewal training requirement: http://tinyurl.com/dsnmh

You still have time to contact committee members to ensure that HB 2074 favorably passes out of committee. Information on the committee members can be found here:

Below is a sample letter to cut-and-paste into an email message. Near the end of this message you will find the email addresses of all the committee members. Please send EACH committee member an email or letter urging them to pass HB 2074 out of committee with a recommendation for passage by the full Senate.

================================================== ==========

Dear Senator:

The Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) has informed me that HB 2074 is scheduled for debate and a vote in the Senate Judiciary committee on February 27, 2006.

I urge you to vote HB 2074 out of committee with a recommendation for passage by the full Senate.

HB 2074 eliminates the training requirement for Concealed Weapons (CCW) permit renewal. Arizona is one of the few shall-issue CCW permit states that require training for permit renewal. The overwhelming majority of shall-issue states do not require renewal training and they are not experiencing any problems. Arizona will not be the exception when HB 2074 is enacted.

Contrary to assumptions, there is no correlation between mandatory training and permit holder conduct. Ten states have no training requirements at all. Two of these, Indiana and Pennsylvania, have about three-quarters of a million active permits and have revocation rates that are comparable to, if not better than, states with training requirements.

Elimination of the renewal training requirement will result in an increase in CCW renewals and generate more State revenue from renewal fees.

Again, I ask for your support and vote for HB 2074.

Sincerely,

John,

Man...you are thick arent you....we had thi discussion in another thread regarding training....what you fail to understand is that the "renewal" training is no training at all...heck, the initial course wasnt training either....its to prove you can shoot the firearm and have a knowledge of use of force. It doesnt TEACH you anything...it VERIFIES you know it.

The only thing of value that may come from the renewal is an update on changes to laws concereing CCW....this can be accomplished via an update newsletter to CCW holders. It would cost less money, and require less manpower by DPS to notify via snailmail changes that have occured.

Do you have your AZ CCW John...?

The current 2 hour renewal training spends 15 minutes on gun safety. It is mostly laws regarding deadly force and requalification.

The above is a copy of my post in an earlier thread.

I saw a good point in a earlier post in this thread.

"Do you have your AZ CCW John...?" Have you been to a CCW course?
