Hello I am running a stock 89' Cherokee Laredo and I was planning on going to Sycamore Creek this saturday w/ a couple buddies. I'm new to 4 wheeling and wanted to know if this trip would be okay for me to do alone. I'm not crazy enough to get myself into anything drastic, but you never know what could happen out on the trail.
My buddy might drive there with me just in case, but he is in an Infinity I35 so It would be last resort to need his help, assuming doesn't just ride along.
So has anyone been on the trail? I believe it is Lower Sycamore Creek. My friend ( which is going) and his dad did the trail in a newer grand cherokee (likely stock) a couple years ago.

not a good idea to do any trail alone.

I would suggest if your rig is nearly stock and you are inexperienced to not go alone! Even with someone with you, you both should be prepared. :)

I would really like to go. Like I said I have a friend to help if i get stuck, but he is in a car. I already have plans for next weekend, so I cant do it then. Think a 6cyl car could pull me out of a tough spot?(assuming he can get to the spot). I mean if my friend could do it in a newer model ZJ then I SHOULD be fine in an older XJ Laredo Right? Damnit I want to go!
EDIT: I have to go this saturday since i requested the day off. If anyone else wants to go, they are welcome! I have plans for next weekend, so I can't go then. I must go this saturday!

Unless you break down getting to the trail head the car isn't going to do you any good (this is assuing it even has a suitable place to hook a strap). Other than that, you'll be stuck in a place that a car can't get to. I guarantee it. Now, if you're within hiking distance from the car you can at least get back there and leave your vehicle on the trail to get back home to get to your computer. Brian (Griswald) makes it a habit to head out there rescuing stuck folks by himself. :)
Seriously though, it's not a good idea to go out by yourself...especially if you're a novice. The folks on this forum that very occasionally go out by themself have spare parts, tools, *recovery* gear, and MOST importantly experience to use all of these things. Many also have navigation, survival, hiking skills to hike out if they need to.... I'm not sure if cell phones work out there. If they do, and you have a GPS at least you could get the word out I suppose and someone could come get you.

I have a great suggestion:
Hook up with this guy:

This way neither of you will have to go out alone.

Just make sure to have a good cell phone, water for 2 days, a survival kit, first aid kit, tow strap, bare essential tool kit and GPS.. Anyone can find you. Live a little.. break down deliberately! It makes for a good story

I have done this alone(in my stupid days)...and trust me, DON'T DO IT ALONE. Bad luck always seems to be there when alone.
