Not seeing much from Bill here so I will wait for him to post up a trip report. I will comment after he gets his report together. :D

But, here's some teaser pix in the meantime...hopefully lots more to come.

Barry (XFallen) and I ran Triple X today.
Barry had Tony riding shotgun, I had my son, Mike riding with me.

The weather was perfect! It actually felt warm at the lower elevations.

Shortly after starting the trail, I discoverd an intermittently leaking O-ring in my front ARB. Thanks to Barry for airing up my buggy's frame tank. After that was handled, there were no further equipment delays. :D

This trail is a 4+ with additional obstacles and line choices to challenge varying levels of experience and vehicle preparation.

We do plan on returning to run this trail in the near future (I have to see when I am on call for work).

For this trip, we just stuck to the easier stuff, as we wanted to do some additional exploring after the run.

I'll load pics later...

We had a blast!

This trail could actually be rated higher if it is rated for the hardest lines. There are a few that could be extremely interesting with the right equipment. I would say those routes are largely impassable in anything resembling a Jeep.

Anyone attempting Triple X will most certainly want front and rear lockers, ample clearance and a winch. My 37" tires seemed small at times and there were numerous places where a 33" would simply be swallowed up. There are many places to get royally messed up so you'd best be prepared for body damage  and dragging the undercarriage. There were at least two places where you could get wedged in HARD if you come of the line. There were places where the "easy" lines will get you wedged in. That's the winch part.

Like many Arizona trails, this one is very technical although not very long. There are many lines. The tougher ones will challenge most rigs and may even be buggy-only territory. In some places there really are only a few lines and they are challenging anyway.

After this trail we headed out for a scenic run and did a loop up through Packer and back down to Tip Top.

On the way down from Packer there is this huge boulder that seems impossibly balanced. I am sure some of you have seen it. Check it out.

Not trying to answer up for Barry, but yeah, he held up just fine. :D

If you stay in the center of the wash, expect the obstacles you saw us both on, if you venture left or right of center, things get exponentially harder to do. This is a really cool trail!

The obstacles in XXX are closely spaced, the trail can't be more than 1/2 to 3/4 mile long.
There were some "Easier" lines through some of the stuff, but for the most part, what you see is as easy as it gets, and the pics really don't do those justice, if you ask me...

Agreed. Pix rarely do justice. Bill's on 38.5" tires and you can see in places his tires look small. And "easy" still means locked and 35s -- no lockers you will get stuck. I usually leave mine turned off. I was turning them on frequently on this trail and not to make it easy, but to make is posisble.

A buggy will not have as much trouble since there is so much less to get hung up on, but there are some nice obstacles on the sides.

Thanks Mike. It does okay for what it is, you know? Time will tell. I am running on a new r&p. The pinion on the last set of gears started to lose teeth. Seems like maybe every 10th hard trail something breaks on the 30. I take it as easy as I can while still doing all the obstacles my short wheelbase rig will do. Can't ask for too much more. I have wanted to strecth this thing for a while and am weighing stretch vs front axle constantly. We'll see.:D

There were some main obstacles, yes. I don't have pictures of them but maybe Bill got some. There is a crack/notch thing that we'll need Barry B or some form of circulation system lubrication to run probably :D (seriously -- it is big boi stuff), there's another one that maybe Bill can describe better (Bill, the very first one we looked at -- ring a bell?). Sorry I didn't get pictures of the other obstacles -- was kinda busy driving. :D But pix would have been good.

Most of this stuff is going to be fun playing in a buggy although don't expect full throttle assaults liek Matrix, SC and the like. On this trail I would say what is fun in the buggy will be extremely difficult if not marginal in a built Jeep.

I wasn't running anywhere. Waddling maybe. Riding mostly. :D

Good stuff on the Creepys. I run them as low as 5 psi on non-beadlocked rims and on the trails that will rip tires off wheels (and I have on other tires ). So far so good. For the easy trails (Predator, JD etc) I just leave them at 12 psi to avoid sidewalls catching stuff. On Annihilator and Anaconda I ran them at 5 psi and they gripped everything.

I would not trade mine for any other tire except maybe comp Krawlers  since Barry's rig seems to work so well with them (99% of that is the driver though I think).

Bill,

I checked my GPS. It logged 4997' altitude. No wonder that wind felt so cold up there. Also, the actual Packer town site was up that little road to the right.

The loop we ran from when we turned off the Boulder Creek trail and started the loop to when we came back to it was right at 20 miles. We climbed 2,780 ft from our starting spot at Boulder Creek.

Anyway, fun trip!

Hey Barry...Looks like your ready for some tube fenders! :D

Naw. Fenders just get in the way and are just one more thing to get hung up on the rocks. They were meant to be cut off at one point and I just never finished the job.

Hey. Aren't you a post-graduate? Given that we are exchanging ideas in the English language, why are you using the possessive "your" where you should be using the contraction for "you are" which is correctly spelled "you're"?

There is no need to continue contributing to the illiteracy of the American public. Anyone who got to or past Grade 8 should know better. This dummy down America thing is getting old, and stopping it starts in our homes and our schools.

No excuses. You've got www.dictionary.com and numerous other resources as readily available as all those pr0n sites you frequent. Plus, you can install a spell checker that vBulletin will use. It won't find grammatical errors or misused words though so you still need to know the difference between the possessive form of a pronoun and the contraction for a passive verb tense.

Besides, you spelled edumacation correctly...
