AzCDL supported legislation, HB 2076, is scheduled for a hearing in the House Judiciary Committee this Thursday, February 16, 2006 at 8:30 AM in House Hearing Room (HHR) 4.

HB 2076 requires on-site, "readily accessible" storage and "immediate retrieval" of a weapon when public establishments or events forbid weapons. Current law has no on-site storage requirement and compliant gun owners have often found that they must travel to inconvenient and remote locations to retrieve their firearms. The text of HB 2076 can be found here: http://tinyurl.com/a4qvg

Committee members need to hear from you to ensure that HB 2076 passes out of committee. Below is a sample letter to cut-and-paste into an email message. Near the end of this message you will find the email addresses of all the committee members. Please send EACH committee member an email or letter urging them to pass this bill out of committee with a recommendation for passage by the full House.

Here is a letter you may use. Feel free to edit and add your own comments.

================================================== ==========

Dear Representative:

The Arizona Citizens Defense League (AzCDL) has informed me that HB 2076 is under consideration by your committee. I urge you to vote HB 2076 out of committee with a recommendation for passage by the full House.

HB 2076 requires on-site, "readily accessible" storage and "immediate retrieval" of a weapon when public establishments or events forbid weapons. Current law has no on-site storage requirement and compliant gun owners have found that they must travel to inconvenient and remote locations to retrieve their property.

It is not uncommon for a gun owner to surrender their firearm at a "no guns" facility or event only to find that there is no on-site storage. Police are called to take their gun away to a remote substation. The compliant gun owner may have to wait until the next business day to drive to the police station to retrieve their property.

Government entities may complain that HB 2076 is an unfunded mandate. However, there is no mandate. If government entities choose to prohibit law-abiding citizens from possessing firearms, they have to understand that there will be an associated cost to provide the proper storage.

Again, I ask for your support and vote on HB 2076.

Sincerely,

Do you actually "think" about what you are going to post...??

I guess by your smilie you are "joking"...so I guess you advocating gun safety allows you to make comments referring to gun owners as drunks and passing it off as humor.

Maybe mommy never taught you that if you cant say something nice...(read: intelligent) to keep your mouth, or in your case keyboard shut. :) Look Im joking too....:)

back to the post,

This is a good step..too often you are placed into a situation while carrying that warrants removing the firearm. However, I try to avoid spending my money in places that prohibit me from carrying/protecting myself and family.

I'd like to see this type of secure storage available for things like Jury duty, and times when you must enter a State, or Federal building, etc.

Thanks for the heads up..lots of good common sense legislation being introduced recently....Ill be contacting......
