Thanks Bill ;)

Look at the drag link next to the pitman arm
First it bent, then it broke.
http://members.cox.net/triple-xj/Wickenburg/100_1386.jpg
After it broke, Russ went back to camp to fill every-one in.
John, Barbra, Shauna and I extracted my XJ by means of multi winching points. Then we all helped Barbra finish cleaning up the area. Roger and the rest of the AZVJC crew came back to help. We remove the broken part and Roger took it to the ARC guys. The fixed it up with some grinding and welding and we re-installed it. :)
THANKS GUYS

Cool looking obstacle. It is really difficult to tell from pictures and I have never seen that trail first hand so this may not make sense, but, I am curious. Did anyone climb the wall on the left and walk along rather than stay low?
Also, how did the rest of the rigs make out on the little waterfall?
Looks like y'all had a nice run. Thanks for the pictures.

I like the first pic of Jamie. The spotter saying, "uh, go right". Yes, like going left really isn't much of an option.
Nice pics. I'll put that one on my list of trails to brake my heep with.

Barry, the face on the passenger side is steep.
How do you feel about White Line on LT?
White Line x 1.5 = well you could do the math :D
As for teh "little water fall", that beehach is almost vertical
Bill's buggy, Nicks XJ and my XJ walked up it without a-1 problem because of wheel base. The others struggled :)
The water fall just before it was a good one too (I dont have a pic of it), but Rachael took a few shats at it and made it, Jamie had to take a strap and a shot of CO2 that day. (she too lost a bead)

Dave, Simply Offroad windows held up well. ;)
I didnt have to pick up glass from them.
The rock tore the heck out of the rubber seal and gouged the window, but it never broke.

We had a great time. Met a bunch of nice folks. Had a great ime around the campfire.
Sunday morning we started with the scenic trail first. That took us high above the Hassayampa river to some great veiws and cave exploration. I got a "little" :) lost and we ended up on the same trail that Geno broke the night before. Well not to be out done Rachel had her own bit of carnage on the same obsticle.
Even though we never made it to the tougher stuff, we still had a great day of jeeping and goofing around.

Personally, I think white line is overrated, but that's just me. I think the bypass is probably scary which is why I have never tried that route.
Maybe I messed up my question: I was wondering if anyone climbed the driver side wall. There seems to be small ledge there. Kind of like the way one is supposed to do the second obstacle on Upper Terminator -- go way high drivers avoiding the massive off camber on the passenger side or gettong wedged in on the driver side. Just curious is all since it *kind* of looked like maybe that's what was being attempted. Again, hard to tell from pix and I have not seen it first hand.
Yeah, that fall looked vertical. :D I was wondering how the shorter rigs did. Figured it'd be a tough "little climb". ;)

Busted ring and pinion in the front D30
Busted inner and outer front passenger shaft
Broke my master cylinder somehow
all fender flares now need to go
Driver's winsheild frame has Roger's red paint embedded in it
and bent another rim (that's 3 of the 5... )
Other than that, just minor stuff.
Got real D-runk on my b-day.

Barry,
Rodger on the second day climbed the left on that wall and came out unscathed that time, was awesome, he got a good 5 feet in the air and just rode the wall out. Nick tried too and got pretty far untill he dropped off like a rock. It's more then 1.5+ to White Line, it's a hell of a lot more narrower and you are 98% going to tag something if you can't hold the line to the left up the wall. I nearly took out my mirror on the DS twice and scuffed up my safari top and the second time through I dinged up my windshield frame.
That little waterfall was cool. The first time we did that trail I made it up under my own power with a little push. The next tiem I drove that trail I got my first bit of body damage :( lost my first bead :( and just had about the worst AZ wheeling day since I had been out here. The first day was a blast though.

*Real remoseful with a real drunken stupored voice when she came out to help with Geno stuff* Jamie I needed to take some of your orange juice, but it was only a little bit as I had a lot of Vodka in the glass.

Oh and then I found the building next to me caught fire today.
Got here and fire dept had to come out again cuz of the hot spots that flared up again. I'm just happy that my place is fine and my dog wasn't here.
I do believe there are some "intersting" pics that should be posted.

I wanted to thank everybody for letting me tag along for Sunday's ride. That was a damn good time for me even with the mishaps that happened. Jeeping is just like riding motorcycles for me. It's not where you're going that's fun but all the stuff that happens in between. You all are some really great people and I look forward to getting out there with mine if I ever get it done. Though, I'll probably not take some of the obstacles that you all take. LOL

You shure did a number on that D-30
hehe, You Go Girl :D
Did you make it thru that ROCK HOLE, of did you back out of it?
You were not around for my attempt, I ended up winching thru the rest.
Being drug out on my side made a gawd awfull sound, then add the sound of broken glass dropping into the door
Now I understand why people like "Woody" remove the doors and glass.
It takes more time to pick it out of the sand and rocks :D

Geno,
She got pulled backwards but it took a while. She was so jammed in there it took ratchet straps and two hi-lifts to get her front end out. There were times Bill was just diggin into the sand tryign to strap her out and when he tried the winch, he was being pulled towards her.
I have pics and will get them up later today showing some of the Rachel carnage, I'll have one post in this thread strictly dedicated to it. :D

Did any-one else besides Rachael give it a shot?
That little rock hole is a bit un-forgiving, huh?
I tried backing out also and it just wasnt gonna happen. I was to far in and on my rear driverside door with the passenger rear tire in the air. When I hooked up to the Unlimited, we had the same problem, I just kept pulling him toward me. It took a few different angles and a few xtra feet of cable to get Jon on solid ground. What made it a PITA for me, is the fact that I was so leaned over that my auto tranny would'nt lock up, and the fuel pump was having a hard time picking up fuel. At one point it wouldnt even run.
So, did Rachael just pull the shafts and carrier, and drive out in 2wd?

I would take a close look at the short side inner and outer, I would really consider replacing them and keeping that one as a spare. It was bound up good! Hate to see it fail in the near future.

Eventually they pulled all the axle shaft from the axle and left the carrier and R&P in there. Since the axles were out, she'd be good for 2WD and could drive it home.
Overall besides the breakage/damage, things were good, people were awesome and the fire hot and bright.
I did too eventually figure out what to do with the stick Bill had between my legs, though I never got a chance to try it out.

Screaming would be what my lovely wife did at me while I was relaxing at the fire:eek:
In all honesty those two girl make a great driving team, and Lauren is cool as a cucumber on any obsticle I have thrown at her, with their Jeep.
But I will admit, everyone on the trail was great and took their scraps and brusies like champs! Especialy Rachel with her carnage on top of carnage...never got flustered.

I wanted to thank everybody for letting me tag along for Sunday's ride. I look forward to getting out there with mine if I ever get it done. Though, I'll probably drive a hell of alot better on the obstacles than you all did.

Can't wait!
It was good seeing you again Errick, we need to hook up again.

Naahhh, sheeiit just hit the fan, evidently, running the unit bearings without the stub shaft in them is a big no, no, I didn't realize this, and just cost Rachel a bunch more money...:(
Add unit bearings to the damage... I am SO SORRY Rachel, I had no Idea.
I'm guessing the correct thing to have done would have been pull the carrier, remove the ring gear, reinstall it and all the rest of the parts for her to go home on.
Everyone can learn from my mistake.

Really.... I ran with I think Tom Jacobson a few months back when he broke his shaft and ran it home w/o the just the bearings and so forth w/o issue.
Someone said they did that for weeks on end and that caused an issue.
Sure the spacers weren't the issue that caused more stress? Who said it is a no-no???

Well, at least the rig got off the trail.
Another trick is to remove the stub shaft fro the inner and reinstall the stub. Someone correct me if this is not an alternative. It saves pulling the ring gear.

I had a bad break a few years ago, I pulled both complete shafts, left and right. Then pulled the front driveshaft to keep the gears from crunching up. ;)
That was some narly damage there Rachael, (knocking on wood now) I havent had a problem with the 4340 inners/outers and 760 joints since I put them in. They are the ones POR (Nick) hooked me up with. Before the Chromo-s, I was breaking joints/shafts left and right

ya theirs a couple of different ways of doing it, most importantly is that the stub shaft stays in their, what it does is keeps the bearings squeezed together and it rides on the shaft instead of the hollow hole, aka the bearings themselves......oh well lesson learned, I told her it was all my fault since I left early:rolleyes:
but your right barry, pull the inner and keep the outer stub shaft installed and you'll get home just fine

I drove all the way to my place from FJ one nght that way. My passenger side unit bearing was already on its way out so it had to be replaced anyway, but I didn't know any better. Neither did a half dozen otherwise experienced wheelers out there at the time.
People may armchair comment/criticize all they like, but I am not convinced that it is obvious to leave the stub shaft in, especially given the cvircumstance of a trailside repair and attempt to get a rig out of a bound up, broken situation.
Guess what? I know I'll never do that again nor do I expect a bunch of other people will either. :D

Wickenburg Gold Rush Days Trip Report
The AzVJC set up camp and held a number of runs during the Wickenburg Gold Rush Days Festival, February 10 – 12, 2006. The campsite was located on State Trust Land about two miles northeast of Wickenburg where the Constellation Road pavement ends adjacent to Calamity Wash. On Friday afternoon, Bill Mish (Wildcat455) led a “threshold” level daytime run through the wash, followed by a night run through the wash. The daylight run was held before I arrived, so I don’t have any pictures of it. I believe that the daylight run participants were Bill (Wildcat455), Jamie (Wind_Danzer), Lee (Lee_Alexander) and Roger (1Eagle). The night run participants were Bill (Wildcat455), Lee (Lee_Alexander), Nick (PerformanceOffRoad), and Roger (1Eagle).
I have posted pictures of the night run in a separate thread:
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=11741
On Saturday we held four runs. The first run was the Wickenburg Gold Rush Days Parade. Our group was led by Roger Dunkel (1Eagle). Several of us have posted pictures of the parade in a separate thread:
http://www.virtualjeepclub.com/showthread.php?t=11765
After the parade, Bill (Wildcat455) led another daytime run through Calamity Wash. Here is Bill taking his modified rig through the Notch:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020156.jpg
The next major obstacle was this waterfall. There are several routes up this obstacle. Bill (Wildcat455) decided to take his modified rig up the right most route:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020158.jpg
Geno (Triple-XJ) took his rig up the left route:

Rachel (Jeeppeepin) on the left route:

Jamie’s (Wind_Danzer) Jeep has open diffs, and she needed a strap:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020176.jpg
In the course of strapping her Jeep up the obstacle, we popped a bead:

Rachel needed a strap at the next obstacle:

And Jamie needed a strap, too:

Later on Saturday afternoon, Geno H. (Triple-XJ) led a 'scenic' run through the Wickenburg Mountains. Three Jeeps made the run: Geno and Shauna (Triple-XJ) in a dark green XJ, John and Barbara (0IIII0) in a khaki Rubicon, and myself in my khaki TJ:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020197.jpg
The route Geno chose had a few obstacles but there were easy bypasses around the obstacles:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020200.jpg
Geno tackled one of the obstacles, while John and I chose the bypass:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020213.jpg
We came to a narrow V-notch:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020219.jpg
Geno got stuck, and bent then broke his drag link:

http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020226.jpg
After John helped Geno winch his XJ through the notch, we took the drag link back to camp, where Blake (HeyBeerMan) welded it back together. After Geno reinstalled the drag link, he drove his rig back to camp and we gathered around the campfire to warm up.
Later Saturday night, Bill Mish (Wildcat455) and Craig (Craig) decided to make a night run through Calamity Wash. They liked it so much that they ran it twice. I don't have any pics because I decided to stay warm by the campfire.

On Sunday morning, Blake (HeyBeerMan) led a scenic run along the Hassayampa river canyon and the Wickenburg Mountains. Near Wickenburg, the riverbed is dry, sandy and soft. As we went further upstream, the river had water. From left to right is Blake’s rig (driven by his teen age daughters Rachel and Lauren), Bill Mish (Wildcat455) and John and Barbara (0IIII0)

Blake’s daughter, Lauren, takes his rig through the notch while Mom spots for her:
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b53/UF92134/Wickenburg/P1020267.jpg
Rachel gets stuck in the notch, and Bill attempts to strap her out but not before some major carnage:

By the time we completed the trail repairs, it was getting late so we returned to camp and called it a day. It was the end to a wonderful weekend. A lot of carnage, but I had a great time wheeling, camping, parading, and hanging out with a great group of people.
