Soooo where do all of you guys get your money for all these purdy mods for the Jeep…
Im working two jobs and cant seem to keep up with the basic maintenance. Now don’t get me wrong… Im not complaining or jealous… Ok so I am jealous… :D
I’m just curious if you all are just putting the build up on the card and paying it off later or do you save the money for a while? Or???
Come on and spill your guts! Where is the money tree planted?

Daddy needs a new set of seats and a bunch of other crap too…

I saved and waited two years before doing my lift. I just said I was doing research, but actually I was doing research and saving for the expense of the lift, regear, tires and rims. Now, I'm saving for the cage/cradle combo and seats to go with it. Oh and then there are those corner guards that need to be bought, painted and mounted. Oh, then I have to finish up my OBA setup.....
It certainly didn't happen for me overnight and it looks like it'll be around June before I'm done......
Nothing is quick, easy, cheap or charged, on my buildup . Also, doing the labor yourself helps out quite a bit.

Save your money and learn to do most of the work yourself. My YJ is pretty well built but remember I have owned it for 12 years. It takes time for your jeep and your skills to develop. When I bought mine, if someone told me I would change out an engine from a 4.2 to a 4.0 on my own in a week without missing any work I would have told them they we nuts. I did that 2 years ago. It is an old saying but Rome was not built in a day. And most projects are not that hard to learn just do your research. HTH

I had paid off my '01 Jeep and was about to begin a build, then got wind of the Rubicon, so I sold my '01 Jeep and saved back the money plus the monthly payments I would be making. I ordered a Rubi in Jun of '02 and when it arrived I had right at $24k to buy the Rubi with. Lady luck smiled upon me and the day I arrived to pick up my Rubi, was the first day of ZERO % for 36 months. I grabbed it and it left me with $24k to do my first build up. And that is how it all started:)

The money tree is right around the corner for me. I'll be graduating in May and the lowly intern wages I'm making right now will soon be forgotten.

It took YEARS to build my Jeep up to where it is now. Honestly, most of the parts for my Jeep came from right here on the club. Somebody somewhere was upgrading and I was collecting parts for the lift. After a year I had the parts. For example, I bought my Rubicon Express XD 4.5 inch lift for $200 (saved $600+ on the parts alone) and did all the work myself and some help from my AZVJC friends. You're lucky to live in a place where you can find great deals. The AZVJC has many "members" compared to any other "club" out there. Just remember to continue the AZVJC "cheap parts to members" tradition so everybody wins. :)

Can you say home equity loan :D No, just kidding, like everyone else says, just wait until someone else is selling what you want and learn to do it yourself. Or you can find a good friend that is willing to help.

Hard work, no kids, tolerant wife. I am fortunate enough to work in a field that makes me very employable. My wife has not worked for a couple of years, so we don't have the biggest house on the block, nor do we give a schizen about keeping up with the Joneses. We just spend our disposable income on stuff that makes us happy. However, in July my wife will begin to out earn me by quite a margin. At that point the real mods begin and I will drve my junk right over the Joneses pile of schizen.:D :D

Saved my money for about 5 years prior to buying my Jeep... When I bought the Jeep, I was able to get a similar deal from Jeep as Don got... 4 years 0% financing, no down payment.

I put 1500 miles on the Jeep and put the lift, tires, gears, lockers, bumpers, Teralow and winch on....

After that it was a matter of saving for each part a little at a time...

A good idea is to create yourself a gift book for your family... Printouts of lots of ideas for gifts... That way, Christmas, Birthday, Valentines, Fathers Day etc are extra special.

That’s what I thought… I did my last TJ one part at a time and would keep them all in the shed till I had everything I needed for a long weekend. This time round it will be the same thing… Just much much slower.
I forgot how much diamond rings cost:eek:

Friends with the know how..... tools.. time... and some thought.. I picked my junk up for $2,000 ... sprung it over... longer shocks.. FORD towers... used rims and 33's.. lockright........ about 2 years ago...

Latest move will be on a "free" rear D60 with discs(I converted) and a D44 front (when I find it for the right price).. and possibly 37's.......

Lets see money to build the 53 Willys Pickup, first it's not done yet. Then:

Divorce with split of home sale profits last year.
Used front end from my old paid for 78 Cherokee. free
Parted out rest of Cherokee for more than I paid for it 5 years ago. (still have parts left).$1500
Sold my 2003 Avalanche for a profit. $4200
Took out a loan on the 53.$5000
Bought another 03 Avalanche and put $ dollars in my pocket. $3000

You would think this would be enough right? Well tore my achillies June of last year and getting back to work this month. Was unable to do the work so paid someone else.

New Job income and the $3000 from the Avalanche purchase and my labor should finish the job soon.

Yeah right that is what I said last June.

Saw a front Dana 44 at the Junk yard on a 76 Wagooner, they wanted $100, had flat knuckles, good for a high steer conversion. I was the you pull it I think it is called down south of Phoenix.

Sold original axles, rear seat, tops, hard doors, etc... and bought beefier junkyard axles to build.

The gracious help of friends.

Insurance totalled my TJ and paid off the loan which freed up big monthly payments. I bought the Jeep back cheap and started the rebuild.

Dealing with vendors who are also Jeepers and feel our pain. :)

I'm taking my time and doing it right. ;)
