In the past; I've heard of people adding coolers to the stock Wrangler boxes in an attempt to keep fluid temps down while crawling. While comparing my '03 box to an older one; I realized they were different. I also have never had overheating problems with the new style box. A couple of years ago I noticed what looked to be a Mercedes logo on my steering box. I had mentioned this to a few people, but noone really could confirm it. Well this month's Off Road mag has verified that the '03-'06 boxes are indeed larger Mercedes units and PSC is modifying them for ram steering. They seem to recommend replacing '02 and older boxes with PSC units for the same application. This leads me to believe the newer boxes are higher volume/heavy duty.
If you're looking to beef up your steering; give PSC a call as you may be able to use the newer factory units for your heavy duty application. ;)
