View Full Version : 20 gal. Tank for '81 Scrambler?

A buddy of mine has an '81 Scrambler and he wants a 20 gal gas tank.
He asked me and I don't know....but is there a 20 gal tank out there that will work for him? If it's a custom job...anyone have any ideas on who and where he could get it fabbed up.
The Jeep is bone stock and in excellent condition, he is the original owner.

CJ's came with 20 gal. tanks, and you can order custom tanks from Summit.:D

I wonder why he has a 16 gal tank and he is supposedly stock.....I'll let him know.

My 84 Scrambler came with a 20 gallon tank stock. I am sure you can find them. They are plastic. There are a couple of places I know in town that build tanks. Cant think of the names but one is on 32nd St south of Washington on the east side of the road. The other is on Washington or VanBuren between 32nd and 44th. Not much help I know but it is something.

There's a company called Coleman's Surplus that sells brand-new metal 27-gallon fuel tanks for diesel Blazers, $25 ( Measurements are 26 in. x 26 in. x 9 in.). http://www.colemans.com/

I am using one on the Willys wagon project.

81 to 86 CJs came with metal 15 gal tanks or 20 gal plastic tanks. The 20gal job was discontinued a few years ago. There are 2 shops in our area that can make a tank for you. Custom made gas tanks on Washington st and Daves gas tanks on 32nd st. :)

Consider getting an AeroTank.. 33 gallons, cost a bit more, but weld up a plate and you can drag across it rocks and it protects your quarter panels..

If he's looking for a 4.0l swap later down the road, some YJ's had a 19 gal. FI tank,
