Hey All

So i decided to list my mustang on the autotrader and im expecting to get around 19K for it.

This being the case, if you were me what would you expect from a used jeep for 19K? What year would you be looking at?

I am expecting to get it already lifted (3-4 ") with tires (33-35's). What else should i expect for that kind of price on a used jeep?

Im basically planning to start looking in the autotrader as soon as i sell my car unless anyone on here has a good deal.

Whats the verdict?

Make sure it's got the axles that you want and they should have low gears and lockers in them.
Oh and a nice stereo to cover up the tire sound...;) JK

My cousin has a 2003 Rubicon with 3.5" RE SuperFlex lift and 33" ProComp Muds. I think he's asking $21k or $22k. PM me with questions.

What are you going to use it for? If you are going to cruise for chicks then just find the shiniest one with the most bolt on crap you can find and put a GIANT woofer in it to shake all that bolt on crap loose.

If you want a capable rig then spend 10k on a nice stock tj. (97- current) Then blow the rest of your wad on things that matter. ie: good lift, axles, lockers, and a CAGE before you hit the trails.

That's good advice from Griswold. Or, you could just buy a Rubicon...those come with axles and lockers...did I mention that my cousin is selling one with a lift and tires? Here's the ad on autotrader.com (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=195758149&dealer_id=57430716&car_year=2003&adCertifiedCheck=n&search_type=used&make=JEEP&model=WRANGLER&distance=25&address=85251&advanced=&certified=&max_price=&bkms=1138196065039&min_price=20000&end_year=2003&start_year=2003&car_year=2003&isp=y&lang=en&cardist=0)

The Jeep's in great shape; 40,000 miles; wheeled maybe 5 times; all the carpet has been removed and Rhino liner sprayed in.

What type of Jeep do you want? Wrangler, CJ, Cherokee full or small size, Pickup truck? If a Wrangler or CJ do you want hard or soft top or both? Looking for something with a stock engine or someone's V-8? Is air conditioning important. The trader magazine in the local Circle K can give you ideas.

Transmission and transfer case and front and rear end will be important depending on whether it will be a daily driver and be off road at times all the way up to a off road only trailer to the rock crawl competition.

I am sure you will get lots of help just need more details.

This is your chair, please have a seat.

Have you been wheeling yet?
What do you want to do with the Jeep you purchase?
Do you have a mechanical background?
Is the rush in the purchase because you need it to be a "Daily Driver"?
What kind of Jeep were you thinking about getting?

As TRobertsRN said,
I am sure you will get lots of help just need more details.

I was looking in the trader a month ago. Lots of choices. If you plan on wheeling it, get one with lockers and good axles, preferably lower gears too. Spend a decent amount for it, and sink the rest of the cash on the upgrades YOU want.

Hey :)

Im looking for a jeep that i can use both as a daily driver but capable offroad. I have had a lifted TJ in the past so i known they are not the most confortable on road but that isnt my real concern.

What type of Jeep do you want?

Wrangler TJ preferablly 2003 or newer

If a Wrangler or CJ do you want hard or soft top or both?

Would like both but prefer a hard top since soft tops are much cheaper!

Looking for something with a stock engine or someone's V-8?

Stock

Is air conditioning important.

oh hell yes!

Transmission and transfer case and front and rear end will be important depending on whether it will be a daily driver and be off road at times

Im looking for something that will get along offroad well and be my daily driver.

Im sitting :P

Have you been wheeling yet?

Yes low end trails. I had a lifted 2001 TJ in the past.

What do you want to do with the Jeep you purchase?

Wheel and daily driver.

Do you have a mechanical background?

Only motorcycles ;)

Is the rush in the purchase because you need it to be a "Daily Driver"?

Not really. I can afford to sell the car and get a rental for a bit if i have to to get the right rig.

What kind of Jeep were you thinking about getting?

Love to get a rubicon but i would also be happy with a 2003 or newer standard TJ.

Yeah, your stang should sell pretty quick.

I like the idea that someone else had about finding one for around 10 or so and then dropping it off at 4Wheelers for a build up. 8 or 9 grand will go a long way with Simon. :D

mike mackinnon

Yah i am open to that idea as well.

We Will see. I especially like the idea of buying from people on here or ppl here who know others (such as that rubicon deal).

Maybe we should start a new thread. "If you had 19 grand to spend what Jeep would you buy/build/have built"?

The thing about Jeep people is the tremendous variety of what they have done to their vehicles and what they want to do also.

I think I will start such a thread and round up to 20K.
