Hi There,
Posting for a concerned friend here:)
I've run backroad to crown king before and had a group ouf 24+ trucks make it in less than 12 hours - A friend of mine ran it with the group today and they still aren't back yet. First real run he's been on with anyone other than me and his wife's a bit concerned.
Anyone know if there was some carnage on the trail to slow things up?
yeah, I know - most likely, anyone who could tell me is still on the trail - but if everyone else is back, and just one guy is 5 hours late getting home, I'm gonna be concerned.
Anyway, I did my part and asked:)
Thanks in advance!

Call the Saloon if they're open and verify the group's arrival. Hope all is well.

Thanks for checking on him, if he went with azvjc, it looks like a big, but competent group.

That trail has its share of carnage and late nights every time I've been on it. I'm sure someone will post up when they get back, even if it's a call for more help.

We've been trying the cell - and I just got through
He said they are about 1/2 hour out from CK - one of their group broke a tie rod and about half the group was stuck behind him on the switchbacks.
All seems good - then the signal dropped.
I'll let his wife know they are on the move again.
Thanks all for your responses!

Wow, in the time it took you guys to run that trail, I left Mesa to Payson, had BBQ lunch with friends, wheeled lower Payette draw, then back to Mesa to pick up my son, then off to the Monster trucks..Home at 11:30.. Thats one long friggin day.. Hope everyone makes it back home safe and sound..
It's gotta be getting mighty cold up there...

Hey all, lost husband here :)
The Chevy Tie Rod Incident ended up eating about 5 of those hours. One of the Max4x4 shop jeeps threw its rear driveshaft a bit past the CK rock and was being towed by the Chevy, who made a bad move while they were both in a rut and came down on a turned wheel the wrong way. The chevy got 4 trail fixes(which, despite having welders available and lot of other stuff, ended up being "tie it together with a bunch of tiedowns and pray it holds"), which lasted about half a mile, a mile and a half, and 100 feet... the last fix was winching/pushing it into a side area so the owner could make camp and wait for Kevin to return with trail fix #5. Because of all this, we ended up with a kid in a stock dodge whose 'friend' went ahead without him, so we helped that dude too. He ended up with a flat, so we stopped to replace it. Later I got a hisser which John(missed his last name, CAMOCOW plate FS Cherokee from Hell) patched fast enough that we did not even have to get out the compressor.
We showed up quite late for the crown king lunch, and decided we'd scrap the turkey creek leg of the run. ;)
On the way out there was a rollover on the dirt road back to I-17. I ended up giving a girl a lift to Phoenix- her boyfriend got a lift from a helicopter to the hospital in Phoenix :-/ I saw the thing and he had rolled off the road about 20' down and came to a not-so-gentle rest against a telephone pole. At least our day was not *that* ****ty.
That said, it was awesome to see how everyone helped everyone else out and I ended up meeting some cool people and learning a lot :)

wow...........that trail is becoming not so easy anymore............and with the length of it, it makes it for a bad as soon as something bad does happen.........thankfully your alright....I was talking to your buddy about the possibility of doing a midnight rescue run. although the POR crew would have we're glad we didn't have to

Well there were about 20 vehicles that showed up for the trip. Near the start of the trail, our copper Jeep blew out the rear drive shaft. Then while it was being tugged up a bad spot, Brian Newberry broke one of his tie rods on his full size Chevy (when pulling the copper Jeep up). After doing a "trail fix" on Brian's several times, it was decided it just wasn't going to make it. I asked Jason to lead anyone out that wanted to leave since there was no point in having 20 vehicles waiting. Brian decided to stay out with the truck and I lead the 5 or 6 rigs that stayed back up to CK in my Rubicon. After a few more flat tires, and some other trail fixes, we made it to CK around 11pm. Then the road was closed because of a bad accident coming out of CK, so we had to wait a little while before leaving CK. Most everyone made it home by 2 or 3 in the morning. Obviously we didn't get to run the "Turkey Creek" trail! I went back 2 more times to get Brian and his son out and get the truck recovered, and the Copper Jeep is getting picked up from CK as soon as I get the Driveshaft back from being rebuilt. WHAT A GREAT TRIP!!!!! WOOHOO!!!
Thanks to everyone who was patient and helped out. Thanks to Jon in his CAMOCOW! Thanks to all of our loyal customers and friends...YOU ROCK! See you next time...
