While back I was needing some meat for chilli and I picked up some 'stew' meat in COSTCO. Well it didn't work as well as I expected in fact I was dissapointed, the meat was just too good...I like a tough cut, or even USDA 'Good' if I can find it. You need a tough cut to hold up to the long cooking process.
I'm not sure what cut this is, but it is some of the most tender, juicy and flavorful meat I've had. I now buy it for almost everything. It has little or no fat and makes some of the best stews you will ever have.
Its cut up into 1" or slightly larger cubes, available at COSTCO and Sam's Club [where its is just as good] and runs about $2.90 per pound +/-.
Enjoy:)

Whew! I was worried that this thread pertained to the other one "So there I was..." :D
Due to the distance I live from civilization, I make the trip to do my major shopping about once a month to Costco. Not only great deals, but some good quality stuff. The Kirkland Signature Vanilla Ice Cream is THE best on the planet (1 gallon, baby! :D ). Now, if they could only get decent coffee...

Sams carries Starbucks, if this helps at all. I agree about the meats at both Costco and Sams. We are always amazed at how good the fillets are.
Oddly enough, we needed to go to Sprouts yesterday, to pick up some herbal anti-inflammatories for my mother-in-law. I usually laugh at the "all-natural" stores, but they had some great stuff, and it was pretty cheap. Their fillets were $8/pound, as opposed to $13/pound at Sams. This means nothing to Nena, but may be of interest to Phoenicians.
Nena, I'd love to have your problem, because people (in quantity) suck. Someday...

You want to try GOOD MEAT. Try Midwest Meat on Apache/Main st and Higley in Mesa. All Iowa corn fed beef.
the wife and I stumbled in there a few months ago and are hooked. They also have a small resturant and bakery on the side of the butcher shop.:) That place gets Simons 4 beer can rating.(Thats high for you non drinkers).

Cowboy's COSTCO stew:
1 Large package of COSTCO stew meat, about 6 lbs
4 +/- large SWEET onions, Mayan Sweets from COSTCO
4 +/- Yellow Potatoes from COSTCO
1/4 cup Chilli powder from COSTCO
1/4 cup New Mexico Chilli powder from COSTCO
6 +/- Bay leaves from COSTCO
1 package of frozen Organic corn-green bean-carrot mix from COSTCO
Cut* potatoes into quarters, onions in half and put in bottom of pot, cover with chilli powders then add water to couple of inchs or so about the 'taters-onions [about half the volume of the pot]. Place on stove on high. In large skillet, stove on high braise the beef, turn once to give a good dark caramelzation on the meat and dump into the pot. After all meat is brasied and in the pot, fill with water to within 1" of top, put on med-low heat, bring to boil. After boiling, put lid on and let simmer on low for several hours or better part of the day, or over night on lowest setting.
Just before serving, bring to boil, add about 1/2 of package of frozen Organic corn-green bean-carrot mix, stir well, serve, ENJOY:)
Why 6 lbs of meat? Meat is what makes the stew, eat about 1/3, add more taters-onions to tase, 1/4 cup of chilli powder fill with water bring to boil then let simmer. Go thru this cycle until you're tired of eating it, take remainder [if there is any] and freeze to enjoy later.
* To cut with I use 'Napastyle', forged german steel, ice hardened and glass finished set of 3 knives, $39.95 from [3 guesses, first two don't count] COSTCO. These are better than my set of Henckle 5 Star, take a MUCH better edge and work better overall.

Good meat on the west side at Butcher Bob's on Bell Rd and El Mirage(Just east)! Try the beer and apple sausage! The Ribeyes are the best I've had, even Omaha steaks aren't as good.
