Is camping allowed at Martinez Cabin? I know it is private land, but is camping allowed?

A permit from the state land department is required for this area. My permit is at home, but I know it has regulations on it about camping. You can check with the state land department at:

Thanks for the tip. I have the state land permit but I am not sure it applies to the Martinez area because it is actually private--not State Trust--land. I think I only need the permit to travel to and from Martinez. As far as camping on State Trust land... They have no restrictions unless posted and a permit is good for 14 nights per year (not in a row). I just don't know if the owners of Martinez Cabin/Canyon allow camping.

I contacted the Pinal County Assessor and they responded by providing a parcel number for the mines but stated "THE CABIN IS ON THE USA/BLM FEDERAL LAND ON THE MAP." From what I understand, if the cabin is on BLM land we CAN camp there no problem.:D :D :D

Wouldn't that be like camping at the bus station? There's so much traffic through there. But then again, I don't like people that much, so I'm biased.

If this offends you, my name is Lance T. Kenyon. :D

LOL, you know I was thinking the same thing, but don't have the cajones to put it that way !

I was thinking of making it into the Cabins late and maybe doing a night run on the loop. There shouldn't be too much traffic at night. I wouldn't want to camp there during the day. I just wanted to make sure it was ok to crash (sleep) there at night.

I'm down for a night run through Martinez Canyon. That would be a rush!

You could camp on the switchbacks or near the top of the loop. I know there are a few open places that could hold a handful of jeeps.

My name is Lance T. Kenyon and I don't like people either. The only person I pretend to like is DesertDawg because he is my personal photographer. :D

umm, now that I've opened my mouth on this subject, in no way whatsoever would I recommend running the canyon at night. Those are some serious switchbacks up there and the potential for sliding off is high. Search this sight for the bronco recovery, that guy was lucky as hell to make it out of there and that was during the daytime. Especially if you've never done it before (and I'm ASSuming you haven't or you wouldn't be considering it).

My .02, YMMV.

I've done it. It is one of my favorite trails.

So are you implying there's something wrong with camping out at the bus station?

If that offends you my name is also not Lance T. Kenyon.

I've camped at the cabins for a night and ran the trail the next morning, it was great.

I would not want to camp there for a weekend or during the day. It was nice to wake up and be at the trailhead.

I'll second that. We spent a week camping in Colorado, just outside of Silverton. It was great to just jump in the Jeep, start it, and you're wheelin'. That's livin' large.:D
